Making a left turn using my turn signal, the turn signal lamp on the dashboard started to flash very rapidly. I recognized this as a burned-out lamp. After stopping I checked to find the left rear lamp was not blinking. The basic running light worked however. Upon removing the assembly, I found the lamp socket partially melted and charred. I removed the lamp, which tested out to be good. The socket had failed. I then removed the right-hand rear lamp assembly and found that it has been very hot as was somewhat charred. I will replace both.

The rear tail light sockets for the tail/brake light lamps are badly burned on both sides. We noticed the problem when we changed the tail light housing due to water vapor build up. Only the right side had the visible water vapor. Both sides had the burned lamp sockets. The car was purchased used.

I discovered both of my rear brake light bulbs melted in their sockets. The sockets themselves are burnt black and the drivers side tail light case has been hot enough to melt. Both brake lights keep melting and going out with no known reason presented by Ford.

My wife and I purchased our Ford Edge used from a dealer, it is the limited model. Drove the car for a few days after our purchase and everything seemed fine. On the third day I noticed my drivers side rear indicator lamp wasn't working. On inspection the bulb and socket were melted together and I was unable to remove the bulb. Both filaments in the bulb were in-tact. The failure appeared to be related to the socket getting so hot that it actually melted and failed. I have not checked the rear passenger side but I'm assuming I will find a burned socket.

Right tail light went out. Upon attempting to replace, found base of bulb melted badly. Socket was not melted but was discolored (blackened). Checked left side, same issues. These are the bulbs that were in the vehicle when we purchased it in 2009 (assuming they are from the factory). Upon searching various forums, found this to be a nationwide problem. Major concern for fire.

Rear drivers side turn signal lamp went out, when I went to replace bulb I noticed rear tail lamp turn signal-parking lamp sockets are burnt and would seem to be a possible fire hazard, other people have complained about other Ford vehicles with the same condition. When replacing my left rear signal light I noticed that the base of the turn signal bulb was melted. I removed the bulb and replaced with a new one and the turn signal worked fine. Even though the right rear signal light was working, I went to replace it as well and noticed that it too had a melted bulb base.

Upon driving home noted my left turn signal was blinking quickly - which I assumed (and found to be correct that the bulb was out. Upon arriving home, I check the lights. It was difficult to see, however, I found the light bulb for rear/backup, and turn signal was out, and then noted that my left read lamp/bulb (larger) bulb was black, melted, and required plyers to remove from socket. It appeared to overhead/melt. Replacement bulb did work, but uncertain as to the use of the blackened socket. Rear brake/tail light socket on the left rear of vehicle has overheated and melted the plastic around lamp. Lamp was burnt out. Not sure what caused the high heat problem. No fuse was blown, new bulb worked in socket.

Both of my tail lights (brakes and turn signals) on both right and left rear went out. Upon inspection, I discovered that the lights had melted at the base and there was black soot covering each bulb and residue in the light assembly from what appeared to be a small fire. I replaced the bulbs and have had no further issues. Ford declined to respond to my concern.

I noticed at a stop light, when making a left turn, the inside indicator was blinking fast, telling me I had an issue. Once home, I checked my turn signals, driver side was not working at all. Had my son change the bulb and found the plastic at the base of the bulb was severely melted. The socket was darkened but still in working order, replaced the bulb and is working for now. Went to Ford dealer that I bought the vehicle from and they said they knew nothing about this issue with other Edge's. (what ever !) I wanted them to look and the socket and harness but they wanted $98 just to "check it out". and of course, I'm out of the 30 month / 36K warranty. Good thing I carry full coverage, because if the car burns to the ground, you can bet I won't be buying another Ford.
