A Ford Escape, bought new, and always received scheduled service/maintenance at the Ford Dealer, Bethlehem Ford. Never an issue. Now, I am told that the slipping of transmission (Automatic/ 4 cyl/AWD) means the whole thing needs to be replaced. $3300. OR, pay $1700 and have them tear apart and tell me what it needs, parts, labor, fluid needs to be added. NATURALLY the best solution is to drop out the old, and put in new. No warranty anymore. How does a vehicle that never towed anything, driven primarily by a woman who doesn't race around, have a trans go at 62900 miles?? The dealer told me, "It happens". Now why did we buy an American car??

Bought from Haggerty Ford with 38,000 mi.,put 30,000 miles on vehicle...trans went out in 15 min. with no warning at all,trans just stopped engaging! I was 50 miles from home,had it towed to Chicago.Called the dealer and they basically said "tough cookies"...had no recalls.Called Ford Motor company and they basically said "tough cookies"...had no recalls.BUT,you're not even to change trans fluid til 50,000!

Spent my savings to buy a dependable "American Made"vehicle...Ford can "basically stick it"...next time I buy it will definitely buy different mfgr.!!!(ford "tough cookies")

ps..I'm being kind with my words(I'd like to know where they live +what they drive)

I bought myself a brand new car to avoid ANY "old car" problems. I'm a single mom with three kids - and two are in college. I am broke, I have no one to turn to, and don't know how I'm going to come out of this one.

My 2006 Ford Escape's transmission just went out on 4/13/11. The car has 76,000 and may cost me up to $3,500 to repair. Not to mention the fact that I'm without a car for the next 2-3 weeks. How am I supposed to get to work?

I read most of the complaints and it's obvious that I won't be getting any help from Ford.

FORD NEEDS TO BE MADE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CRAP THEY'RE SELLING THEIR CUSTOMERS. I'M SURE FORD IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS AND IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT.

A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT SHOULD BE FILED IN OUR BEHALF. ANY LAWYERS OUT THERE THAT COULD HELP US?

I started having problems with this escape about a year ago and didnt think anything of it at first i went to go to work and got to the store and the dam thing wouldn't go into reverse or drive now am having to have another transmission put in it got the other one and reverse doesn't work and tries to start out in second gear after we get it back i think we are going to go back to Dodge Ford doesn't care about their customers or they would put out a recall on these things and make it right i think there needs to be something done and if we all get together we can make it happen

I have a 2006 Ford Escape that was so quick I believe it's the reason why the transmission broke down. I think the discs are burned out of it because of its quickness. While its nice to have such a quick vehicle I think common sense should have taken over when it came to using a transmission that can't handle the engine that drives it.

Within 40 minutes, my transmission was toast, no warning. I was driving along and suddenly whenever I would stop and try to go again I would feel a jolt, after about ten of these jolts I stopped to check the fluid but when I tried to leave the vehicle would not move until I shut it off and restarted. After awhile even that didn't help. I was told it's likely the discs are burn out of the tranny. I've never heard of this in such new vehicles. Ford needs to respond to these issues.

Four months after replacing the transmission transfer box (cost $840.00 Cdn.) in our 2006 Escape the transmission fails ( 95,000 km). Again Ford says suck it up buddy!! I have used the same very qualified independent mechanic for over thirty years and Ford comes up and says you should have bought a warranty or used our technicians (at inflated prices). Why can't they build a quality vehicle that will last at least 160,000 Km.??? The complaining public is not very vocal or we would have had class action suits to hold Ford accountable! Why am I expected to pay approx. $2,500.00 for a problem caused by Ford incompetence? "I'm mad as hell and can't take it any more!"

I too am very angry with Ford!!! Just paid my car off this summer, had only 57,000 miles, and the overdrive light came on. I took it to the ford garage and was told I had lost my transmission. I can't believe this!! I I took excellent care of this little red suv and I really really loved this little car! Now it is out of warrenty and now I have to pay out of my own pocket for this problem. And with this economy I really didn't need this extra expense! We have decided that after it is fix we will be looking for a new car. Can anyone suggest a good little SUV?

Why hasn't anyone made a class action law suit against Ford? A transmission should last longer than this. Please email me with your ideas and suggestions.

My transmission didn't seem to be functioning until I hit 40 MPH so I took my car to the Ford dealership and they told me the electronics were fine and they would have to take my transmission apart to determine the problem. I then took the car to a transmission shop where they told me that I had NO 1st or 2nd gear and would have to replace the transmission. They also found a transmission alert document that had been issued regarding this problem back in 2006. It was caused by faulty workmanship. The piece in which the clutch sits had welding that had separated causing leakage into the transmission. I wrote Ford and asked for some reimbursement (I also had a transmission problem with my 1999 Ford Explorer) and they basically told me "too bad" and they won't do anything since the car isn't under warranty. Any suggestions on getting some reimbursement would be appreciated?

This is our 4th Ford Escape and our dealership told us we were 1 month over warranty, but also way over in Km's (3-year, 60,000). Not happy with that answer or the estimated $4,000 repair bill, we took the vehicle to a transmission shop. We ended up installing a used transmission that was $2,700.

We sent an e-mail to Ford Canada to let them know how disappointed we were. They asked us to call and explain the situation. They agreed with the dealership that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. We told them this was the last Ford Escape we would ever buy and that when we finished paying for the lousy transmission we were getting ride of this Ford and getting a different SUV.

Seems Ford is not concerned about loosing a loyal customer.

I was driving down the freeway and came to an off ramp and the car died when I came to a complete stop. Put it in park, started right up, put it in drive - went down the road till next stop and died. I took it to the Ford Dealership and after spending $600 to have the "fuel system" fixed, drove it back down the freeway home... stopped at the light and died again. I called the dealership and was told "they would see if they could get a mechanic to duplicate the problem, if they couldn't then there was nothing they could do.". I looked on the internet and found this is a COMMON problem with the Escapes - it is the Torque Converter. Took it to a different Ford Dealership with all the internet information I printed and for only an additional $1,600 they could fix it. Of course it was past warranty! I told them to put it back together and drove it straight to a Mazda dealership where I got rid of it.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape. My vehicle began to make some noises and I had performance issues. I then took my vehicle to a mechanic of my choice (since my vehicle no longer has warranty) and it was discovered that the transfer case has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I understand that since my vehicle does not have warranty that I would be responsible to purchase the replacement parts and pay for the repair. It has since come to my attention that FORD has had issues with these transfer cases that go into my vehicle and do not even offer the same transfer case any more but have supposedly updated the part and assigned a new part number. It has also come to my attention that FORD has an excess of 90 of these transfer cases on back order and that they are currently not manufacturing any of them. I have spoken with the local ford dealership and they have informed me that FORD does not even have a date for production to fill these orders.

I have now been waiting over a month for my order to be filled (my order was placed with my mechanic) but still there is not even a production date for my transfer case. I was laid off from my job in April and not having my vehicle has impaired me from being able to get out there searching for a job as much as I should be able to do. My daughter was also born the same day that I was laid off and not having our vehicle has caused complications in getting our newborn daughter to her doctor appointments. In our current situation we can't afford to rent a car for while ours in inoperable, much less buy another vehicle on top of one day getting the bill from the mechanic to fix our vehicle that is the cause of this situation. FORD has offered NO solutions or explanations. It is my opinion that with the complications that they have already caused me and my family that FORD should now repair my vehicle free of charge to me and provide me with a vehicle to use until those repairs are finished. I do not know why FORD is having this issue, but this has compounded our situation making it worse than ever.

Ford knows of the problem with the torque converter. Technical Service Bulletin on March 19, 2007. It says: Remove the transaxle assembly and check the rotation of the torque converter in the bell housing. A failed converter will be difficult to rotate."

Yep, that was mine. Except this was also full of metal shavings. Pump body also shot. Of course happened after 36k mile warranty. Ford will make a $1K "Good Faith" adjustment. Great, now I only have to come up with $3.5k. Might as well be $3.5 million. These freaks want the US Government (US!) to bail them out?
