I bought a Ford Escape in November 2008, it had 22,000 miles when purchased, it was a rental car. Nothing wrong with the car when it was purchased. Now the paint is peeling on the strips between the side windows, it looks like a piece of crap. Ford told me I had to many miles on the vehicle for them to fix it. Now what does miles have to do with a crappy paint job??? I have noticed other Escapes with the same problem, it makes the vehicle look like a piece of sh*t....especailly when its the black trim peeling and there is silver underneath........Ford needs to come up with a solution for this.

Just saw a huge bare spot on the panel around the door caused by peeling paint. My warrenty just ran out in April ( I actually hit 36K miles on my 36th month!) Just before the warrenty ran out, I had it in the dealership for an oil change and for them to look at the bad transmission seal, even before the letter came out. I never saw the paint look like it was going to start peeling. Had I seen the signs, I would have had the paint replaced before my warrenty was up.

As soon as I saw the peeling paint, I took it into the dealership, who took pictures and forwarded them on to Ford, saying they thought the repair would be covered. Turns out, Ford said no today and want's to charge me $400 to do the repair. I found another option to put chrome on, and while I'm leary about how chrome and silver will look, it's a $60 fix vs paying Ford $200 to $400 to fix it.

I owned a Mazda for 5 years, previous to buying Ford and my husband owns a 6 year old Jeep, neither have had a paint peeling problem. Obviously, Ford uses sub quality paints that will last up to the warrenty expires before it flakes away like a peeling sunburn. A 3 year old vehicle, driven normally and well taken care of should not have paint peeling.

We were thinking of buying Ford again for our next vehicle in the next year or so. Because of the horrible quality of paint Ford uses, as well as refusal to fix what is an obvious problem caused by their material, I'm rethinking sticking with Ford and I'm looking at other models now.

These are stick on trim pieces that should not cost $50 parts and $50 labor to fix each. There is no way I'm paying $400 to fix this, and I think $200 to do it myself is ridiculous too. The parts dept. of the auto dealership I talked to said they have seen this problem come through many times yet Ford has done nothing to extend the warranty, which is the standard way too short 36,000mi 3yrs. Seems to have started peeling just as my warranty ran out not shockingly. I guess I will try to find the parts somewhere online, I looked a little but all I found was chrome...not my style. Its just an appearance thing so I'm not that upset, but I love my car and take pride in how it looks. I just think Ford should make a better quality product or make it less expensive to replace, I mean if the paint is peeling after only two years I know it didn't cost $50 to make.
