Escape 6-cyl

  • 90,000 miles
Driving on highway @ 65 mph - loss of gas pedal control - I could press the gas pedal and it was as if it was disconnected - there was no response at all - car starts losing speed in middle of hwy - I had to coast to the side of the road -- the engine kept running - engine was skipping as it coasted to a stop - the wrench light came on along with service engine light - after sitting still for 10 minutes vehicle will start up and run as usual - I took to dealership found out that this is a common problem with the Ford Escape 2010 - they had 10 on order within 2 weeks - the electronic throttle body is on national backorder and I can't get an answer on when the parts will be available - called Ford customer relations got no where - the throttle incident started weekly and now it happens 1 - 2 times a day - it is now unsafe to drive- car looses power without any notice - has happened at stop light / intersection / rr crossing / roads with no shoulder / interstate - I need a vehicle that I can depend on daily to get me home safety - if the dealership tells me this is a common problem with Ford Escape why can't the part be recalled and fix the throttle before it fails - paying for the part isn't an issue - getting the part to fix the problem is the issue - Ford knows about the throttle and doesn't have parts available and can't tell me when they will be available. What I've been told is there is nothing that can be done to get me a part or date when it will be available.

Escape

  • 200,000 miles
Purchased May 30, 2012....less than one month later, I was driving onto a ramp and could not accelerate. The car just stopped but I could steer so I was able to pull it over. A state policeman came by and I said I was on the phone with my mechanic. Apparently, the computer had shut down and the issue may have been that the key I was using was not programmed?. I followed steps to program keys and everything was fine for months until this past April, 2013. Driving along on a main road, the car did it again. Could steer it but could not repair same way as before. I know computers and say that when all else fails, disconnect it. So we disconnected battery and were able to start car and get home but the same thing happened again when arriving at my house. Of course the warranty ran out back in February. My mechanic could not duplicate the problem and therefore did not know why it happened. I do regular maintenance that is required and take care of the car. I also keep a log. It happened two more times since, yesterday and today, June 17, 2013. I have seen several complaints online about a similar problem with the same make, model and year. There should be a recall for this problem. The car was purchased used and was two years old. The previous driver did not have it for very long before turning it in. I asked for the car facts from the dealership and the car was brought in several times with no repairs done. Not even sure if they were the actual car facts.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 70,500 miles
My vehicle is a 2010 Ford Escape 6 cyc with 4 wd. This was a new vehicle purchased in early 2010 as it had 4.7 miles on it when purchased and I put most of those miles on it during the test drive. When traveling at highway speed recently in heavy traffic the vehicle suddenly lost all ability to accelerate. It was as if there was no gas pedal in the vehicle at all. No shuddering, or chugging after this occurred and absolutely no warning at all before it occurred. It was extremely lucky that no one was injured as I attempted to make my way across 4 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. The vehicle never shut off when this occurred. I then turned the vehicle off, waited, and then restarted and it seemed to run fine. I took it to the Ford dealership where it was purchased to assess the situation. I was told the battery was bad which they replaced. I questioned as to how a battery could cause this type of problem as I understand some of the vehicle mechanics and my research showed that it was more than likely a throttle body issue and I was assured that battery was most certainly the issue due to the complex nature of vehicles today and their on board computers. When the battery was replaced my wife picked up the vehicle and had just entered the interstate when at highway speed the same exact problem occurred where an accident was almost caused by her efforts to exit the road. Again no warning. When it was restarted it was driven back to the dealership. Today, it was confirmed by the Ford dealership that in fact it was the throttle body issue that my research had show it to be, and more so, the part, which is somehow not a safety recalled item by the NHTSA, is on back-order by Ford because of the shear number of these parts going bad and needing to be replaced in so many vehicles. I now own a vehicle that cannot be operated safely without a safety recall.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 39,345 miles
I was driving about 40mph and my Escape all of sudden lost power. The vehicle stayed running but it would not drive forward. The traffic was light, so I was able to pull over with my flashers on and stop. Had the traffic been in rush hour there could have been a major accident. I tried to put the vehicle in reverse and drive and it wouldn't do anything, but the engine stayed running and the "wrench warning light" appeared on the dash. I then turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes and started in up again. Everything then ran fine. I took the Escape to the Ford dealer where they found out that the power failure did occur in the throttle body air intake and it needed to be replaced. They also informed me that they had another Escape that was needing to be worked on with the same problem and parts were on backorder and it would be a few weeks before mine would be fixed.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 30,350 miles
I was stopped at a red light preparing to turn right. While at a complete stop, the vehicle jolted forward momentarily and again came to a stop. I turned right and immediately my accelerator failed and the car would only move forward at a speed less than 5 miles per hour. I coasted into a parking lot where I turned off the vehicle and restarted it. It accelerated normally for a moment before failing again. The warning light that appeared was correlated with the power train, per the vehicle's instruction manual. When inspected by a Ford dealership, the mechanic said the throttle system had failed and needed to be replaced. All inspections and services related to the vehicle were up-to-date and there were no other problems detected. No one was injured.

While entering a freeway at 40mph the car stalled, thankfully there was a shoulder to pull on to otherwise we would've been rear ended. This has happened at differing speeds as well. The wrench light in the dash comes on and the vehicle stalls. Restarting vehicle will usually resume with no issues. No codes are stored so dealer can't find problem. This has happened 10X's at least. I'm scared to let my wife or daughter drive this vehicle. No signs given that it will stall.

The vehicle lost power while on highway at 65mph. Engine did not stop running completely but the vehicle would not go. Had to pull over, turn vehicle off and restart. Did this 6 separate times 3 on 5/30 and 3 on 5/31/13. This has been diagnosed as a common problem by repair shop as faulty throttle body.

When I'm driving my car, it will suddenly stop accelerating as though someone threw the car into neutral. When this happens, the wrench light comes on and I have to coast over to a safe area to turn the car off and turn it back on. This happened on the freeway at speeds over 70mph, on streets, after a red light, turning corners. Over and over again this happens and it started happening at about 50-thousand miles and has gotten worse. Today this happened more than six times in a twenty mile radius.

While driving to work on I10 at 60 miles per hr in houston tx. The Escape lost power and was hard to steer. I limped off the road and shut the Escape down and restarted it. The Escape worked fine again. This happened twice more over the next months. I am taking the Escape to russell smith Ford in houston tx to have them correct the problem. Please check with them on the issue as I or others could have been killed as this happened during rush hour traffic in houston.

Escape 6-cyl

  • 40,000 miles
I was driving at highway speed when I heard a click from the car engine. Acceleration gradually declined. The gas peddle did not respond. I pulled over to the side of the road and turned the engine off. As I was slowing to park, to turn off the car, the car surged several times. I was able to restart the car, with a hesitated start and get home. This happened 5 times over a two week period of time. I took the car to the Ford dealership and had the electrical throttle body replaced. This corrected the issue.

While driving car engine suddenly decelerates to a fast rough idle. Car must be pulled to the side of the road, then shut off and restarted to continue driving. This incident has occurred 4 times between 5/6 and 5/15/2013. Car has been in the Ford dealers shop for a week now without a fix, seems like the onboard computer does not save the diagnostic data after being shut off. New Ford with 1970's computer technology ? I believe this is a safety issue and Ford needs to do whatever it takes to fix the problem.

Electronic throttle body - code P2111 displayed - action number PE13003 car lost transmission power and eventually stopped out on route 1 South. The issue began at the top of the morris goodkind bridge, as the incident occurred I noticed the wrench icon in the lower left of the dashboard and the check engine light I was in the left lane traveling at the average pace of traffic, I managed to get to the center lane once I realized the issue and eventually the car came to a complete stop [ engine would rev but no power would transfer to transmission] near the dangerous exit ramp for route 18 N and S. luckily no one behind me were involved in any accidents. I turned put the car in park and turned the engine off I restarted the engine and shifted to drive the car seemed to be working again. I got past the rt. 18 ramp and got into the right lane I made it about 1.5 miles near rutgers cook college where this issue happened again, this time I got onto the shoulder before the car came to a complete stop. Once again I put the car in park and it started up again I drove it home approximately 2 miles before leaving it parked until Tuesday May 14th when my wife and I could drop it off at the local dealership, malouf Ford in North brunswick NJ. This is a major safety concern, the check engine lamp or the wrench icon do not display until this part fails. Unexpectedly losing power and stopping on one of the busiest most traveled portion of route 1 is scary. I am glad that my 2 year old son and my pregnant wife were not injured when this occurred. In addition countless other motorists were put at risk due to this part failure without warning. ***** have all reciepts and documentation if you need further information or assistance.

I was driving the vehicle at approximately 40mph when with no warning, the car started to stutter like it was going to stall out and I lost all ability to accelerate. The monkey wrench warning light came on and I was able to pull off to the side of the before someone hit me from behind and turned off the vehicle. I called for assistance, but the vehicle started up again fine, and I was able to drive it to the nearest Ford dealer. They advised it was most likely a throttle train issue, and they replaced the throttle train.

Escape 6-cyl

2010 Ford Escape XLT continues to have intermittent occurrences of "stalling in motion" with no warning. We have been lucky so far that the vehicle will coast to shoulder or a parking lot. If we drive on interstate we only travel in the right lane in case we have to coast off. Vehicle then idles roughly at about 800 RPM. Vehicle has to be put in park and shut-off. Then restart so far makes vehicle go again sometimes. Vehicle may have to be restarted multiple times to get moving again. However, this is getting more commonplace and we will not allow our young inexperienced drivers to operate the vehicle due to the extreme safety risks associated with operating the vehicle. This is placing a huge burden on our family as we cannot afford to have the vehicle repaired at Ford dealer due to the high expense involved. Vehicle has check engine light with P2111 code on several occasions which specifically isolates the throttle body malfunction. This situation needs to be remedied by Ford before a death occurs as it will occur soon especially on interstates or highways.
