was driving down 5 lane road very early in the morning at 50 mph all of a sudden engine got real quiet. no throttle response did not stall just went to low idle noticed wrench light was illuminated. was able to shift into neutral and coast into a parking lot. shut engine off and restarted problem seem to have gone away researched problem on line and several sites mentioned the throttle body problem. called the dealer that day and explained what happened told me to bring it in 1st thing monday am told the service tech that i thought it was the throttle body and it was was replaced under warranty. this could have been a really bad problem as if traffic was heavy things could have turned out a lot worst. kudos to masheter ford in whitehall oh for having the part in stock and getting my vehicle back 4 hrs later

The car just lost power on me twice while in traffic, once while my 3 year old grandson was in the car with me. I pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. I was scared out of my mind, and praying that no one would hit us. Thankfully no one did. I was able to call AAA and get towed. I got the car to my mechanic who, after two days found out it was the throttle body. I paid to have it replaced.

I did some research and found out that Ford was doing partial recalls but only on 2009 Escapes manufactured June through October 2009. I guess they fixed those cars but then continued putting faulty throttle bodies in 2011 Escapes, hoping it wouldn't happen again. Well, guess what? It has. Ford needs to step up and repair these and/or reimburse the people who have had to pay to have the problem corrected.

I have filed complaints with several agencies, haven't heard anything back yet. The Bureau of Automotive Repair was really no help, I guess because I had already paid to have it fixed and I was trying to get my dealer to reimburse me.

Something needs to be done before someone gets seriously hurt or dies.

The 1st time it just QUIT on me, the dealer said it MIGHT just be a GLITCH. So just wait to see if it would happen again... 2 months passed,,, nothing ... Then the last 4 days it has done it twice...

Once I was pulling out ,, it died,,I was almost killed... Today driving on interstate it died again... It's funny how when I asked my friend at the dealer he knew EXACTLY WHAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS.... Said 3 people last week brought their cars in for the same thing.... Guess Ford is just waiting for someone to get killed so they will get sued before they put a recall out on this....

I don't think at 40,000 miles a throttle body should have to be replaced... I'm not a mechanic,, but I've been told they shouldn't just go out that soon...

My Escape has now stalled on me 3 time in 2 days. 2nd time I almost got hit on highway trying to pull over. The Escape all of a sudden loses power and the wrench light comes on. Still runs but sounds really rough. I push on the gas pedal and nothing happens, gauges don't respond. I can turn off and back on and it starts up like nothing has happened. But the wrench light goes off when I turn the motor off. So the Ford dealership says without the light staying on the computer can't "find the code" to fix it. I have worked in a dealership before and I know that even though the manufacturer hasn't issued a full blown recall for this major problem they do issue a TSB - Technical Service Bulletin to let the dealership service departments know that there is an "issue". The dealer I went to actually told me it could be the throttle body but said unless they have the code they can't replace it under warranty. I do know one thing that if this continues and I get hit out on the highway or worse Ford will pay a lot more than the price of repairing the throttle body!!!!

Update from Oct 25, 2013: 3 days after initial problem with my vehicle i notified the dealership again of all the complaints online. Also advised them I didn't want to wait until a recall was issued, if one ever will be, before i get my SUV fixed. I didn't want to take a chance of going down the road at 70 mph again and stall in the middle of the highway at rush hour. So they replaced the throttle body and i haven't had a problem since.

I was on the freeway on my 2011 Ford Escape the higher speed lane at around noon (12:30 pm) when the car made a sudden noise of loss of power and my dashboard lights went dimmer...the power of my car was diminishing and it felt as if the car engine was going to die on me...scary...I felt my heart drop to my stomach...looked left and had cars coming on the contiguous lane, looked right and fortunately no cars were coming immediately they were far away so I moved right 3 lanes and even though the car felt that it was going to stop I continued with the momentum it had. I was able to get off the freeway since there was an exit as I moved the 3 lanes. Lucky but scary experience. The car sort of stalled at the corner but I was in a safe spot. I called the dealership immediately to ask for the roadside assistance number and the service department person asked me if I turned the car off would it start again and the car did start again as if nothing had happened. Really crazy! When the dealership checked it they diagnosed faulty throttle body, they fixed it apparently but now I am driving on the slow lane all the time unless I am passing because I have fears that the problem might happen again. I lived a very scary situation.

My car was completely lost of power while I was making a left turn in the middle of a intersection. And it happened for another two times in the following three days. And the ford dealer had it deep checked, which cost around 90 dollars, I was told that the throttler body had to be replaced, which would cost another 570 dollars. While I was waiting for the part to come in to Ford dealer, I drove the car with no problem for a little more than a week. But I still paid the money to had it fixed, but nobody will be sure that this problem would or would not happen in the next 38000 miles. I guess I would not keep this car for too long, and will never deal with Ford again. Also, I think it is only fair for Ford to recall this Escape 2011, and give an explanation.

2011 Ford Escape; I was on Hwy 290 in Houston on my way to work in morning rush hour traffic, when my Escape just lost power - like it slipped into neutral on me - pressed gas pedal with no response - check engine light came on, then the "wrench" light came on - when I coasted into a nearby restaurant parking lot, then the battery light came on and car cut off. Had it towed to dealer who told me the throttle body went "kaput" and they would replace it under my warranty (thank goodness) - I was just there 2 weeks ago because the battery in the car went dead and was replaced under warranty; THIS time the dealer covered my rental car.

this problem happened to my wife on a very heavy part of I10 just outside of katy, she had her mother and are son with her car lost all power doing 70 in heavy traffic, bet its not long before someone is bad hurt or killed cause of this problem , what sucks is ford know about this and hasnt recalled it. I was lucky mine stuck closed what happens when they stick open. HELLO FORD Its a shame someone will probally have to die before they recall think about that other ford owners Heres another big kicker the price anywhere fron 169.00 to over 600.00 at the dealer depends which one you call, If you can hold a screw driver you can replace this part.

2011 Ford Escape while leaving a stop sign and entering an intersection lost all throttle control. Engine would only idle. When I pulled over to the side of the road thinking what to do next I turned the engine off and restarted the engine. After the restart the throttle began working again. I drove the vehicle home and began calling people who I know have some car knowledge and 3 confirmed throttle body problems. I drove the vehicle several more days to see if the problem would happen again and while I was not able to make it happen it did lose throttle control 5 more times in the next 2 days.

The mechanic shop where I took the vehicle diagnose/inspect confirmed that the throttle body was bad and had to be replaced.

$450.00 for a new one. But wait, there are none in stock and the parts house has 100 on back order. I looks like to me others are having a problem too.

Now this is my wife's vehicle and I am always concerned about her being broke down on the highway. We will replace the throttle body but will the same thing happen again?

Some have told me that it is the gas we are using now with the ethanol mix. This vehicle has a flex fuel sticker on it. Some have told me that we don't need to let your fuel tank get below a quarter because condensate forms in your tank more when your tank is low and causes these problems with your fuel system.

I think Ford has a problem with the throttle body failing. This problems is now mine.

I was driving on a major freeway in the far left passing lane with transfer trucks all around me and having the cruise button set, when suddenly the cruise kicked off and I had no acceleration at all! The check engine light popped on so was the wrench light. Luckily I was able to merge to the right lane then off the freeway, after just getting off a narror bridge! It was definately a scary situation. I could have been killed!! I had purchased the extended warranty but was told this problem is not covered.

I was driving down the interstate about 70mph and lost all power and my wrench light came on. Two weeks ago my engine light came on and they replaced a valve or something but my car had no issues then just a light. now i can feel my car starting to lose power but so far today has not shut off. i went to dealer ship and told them what i had read and that my car was doing exactly what others said that had their throttle body replaced and was told they couldnt help me unless i paid the $85 to put on the computer.

I am a owner of a 2011 Ford Escape. On the third time that my Escape while driving complete shuts down on I10, I decided to have it towed to the nearest Ford dealership. And after waiting a day in a half I got the worst news ever. My electronic throttle body needs replacing. Quote for repair was $428.......BUT.......there is no replacement parts available. The service manager of the dealership says that it might take up to 6 to 8 weeks before parts are available (maybe longer). It appears that Ford has pulled all their throttle bodies off the shelves!!!!HHHHHMMMMM!!!! The dealership where I had it towed said "so sorry but there is nothing we can do!!!! Thanks to the dealership where I bought it from Lamarque Ford provided a rental until my escape is repaired.

So now I sit and wait till the repair parts are available and continue to pay my monthly note on a 2011 Ford and I wonder how safe will my car be after repairs.

Driving on the highway today my gas pedal stopped working. I had to swerve off the road to avoid getting hit. I kept stepping on the pedal for the car to speed up but it wouldn't. Speedometer went all the way down to zero. I turned the car off and restarted it and then it worked again. Has anyone else had this problem with the 2011 model? I drive everyday 120 miles to school and can't have my gas pedal locking up on me like this. I was lucky I was able to get off the road safely and wasn't hit by an 18 wheeler.
