Escape

  • 50,000 miles
Was driving vehicle on exit ramp from highway traveling around 45 mph when engine and power shut off. I was able to steer and stop the car (power steering had shut off). Radio remained on, but dashboard display was off. Once car was stopped, car restarted immediately. Several similar reports about Ford Escapes with this problem just within the past few month. Very dangerous problem as no warning lights and at high speed. Could be related to ongoing NHTSA investigation (DP15-001) open since 2015 with no resolution. No previous history of problems and car was serviced less than one month ago.

Escape

  • 128,000 miles
Started car up in driveway and engine revived (RPM's went way up) just for a few seconds. Drove to destination pulled into parking stall as I applied the brakes, the engine revived up again and I was unable to stop, even while applying the brakes, the vehicle lunged forward over the parking block. The vehicle then stopped just short of hitting a tree.

Escape

  • 70,000 miles
When slowing down, vehicle loses power and comes to a stop. The only way to restore power is to turn the vehicle off and restart. This has almost caused me to get hit several times. Although it occurred rarely at first, now it is often. I saw the throttle body recall on this model and it describes the problem. However, the recall is expired. This is very unsafe and unsatisfactory. Program 13B17.

"engine recall" I have a 2011 Ford Escape & after 7 months of owning this vehicle I was told that I need a new engine. I was headed home from work on I95 then the engine light came on. The next morning I got up to go to work and the Escape would not crank up at all it did not move. From the time I had this vehicle it would not start on some days so it was no good when I bought it. It only has 65000 miles on it. The camshaft & crankshaft needs to be replaced there should be a recall on that part of this vehicle. I drove it for 7 months & there was days it didn't want to start. I wasted my hard earned cash on this piece of junk and now I dont have a car to ride to work. Ford need to recall this issue.

As I was driving home in town, the engine service soon light comes on. Code has to do with the emissions/fuel valve. The vehicle drives just fine, but concerned about inspection and if this is under a recall that is not for my vehicle. Also, when driving, starting and stopping the car seems to 'jump' at times and no known cause and hesitates in shifting. Please advise on what to do. Thank you. A very concerned driver.

Bought 2011 Ford Escape XLT used 5-27-2016 (private sale, Chicago il). Upon purchase, serviced at milwaukee area Ford dealership, found front control arms & bushings torn/loose. Next, front sway bars, outer tie rod ends, brakes and rotors needed replacement. In Oct. 2016 engine/transmission major issues: Leaking oil and trans fluid -no oil lamp or check engine light- car would run out of oil, pulled over added more. Trans slipping during accel/weak accel. Hard shifting w/high rpms. Rough idle. Ticking noise under hood when brakes applied. 12-6-2016 Ford dealership replaced gaskets & seals in engine & transmission- $2,000 repair. Upon driving car, issues continue, new issues present: Trans slipping worse/bucking, car not accelerating when gas pedal depressed, car stalling in traffic, car lurching forward, car losing gasoline/smelling of gasoline. Broke down 12-8-2016 in parking lot due to fuel leak. Contacted aaa roadside assistance, returned to dealership, turned away. Fire dept cleared car for towing, fire hazard. Researched VIN, found recall for fuel delivery modulator flange, and field service action for electronic throttle body. Contacted Ford customer support, verified recall for my VIN. Advised to not operate vehicle. Area Ford dealerships refused to diagnose w/O charging. A service manager at a Mazda dealership diagnosed additional undisclosed repairs: A/C line ruptured, front driver's side sway bar snapped and control arm bushing separated; Ford mechanic had also left bolts & hoses loose/unclamped in engine. Steering and rear suspension deteriorating. Returned to dealership once more- turned away. Missed 1 month of work (driving is job). No rental provided, unwilling to reimburse. Filed dealer complaint. Filing consumer protection & disclosure lawsuit. Seeking class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company. Car is dangerous, I refuse to operate it.

Escape

  • 49,000 miles
Driving a 2011 Ford Escape, and while waiting at a stop light heading South at a major intersection, upon the light turning green, I proceeded to enter the intersection at approx. 10 mph. Next thing I know, I am T-boning a car that ran the red light entering the intersection from the East at 40 miles and hour. I was unable to see her approach because of a large truck on my left that was turning left to go East. The impact spun the car that ran the red light around 180 degress then hit a third car and stopped. There were no injuries amongst any of the parties involved in the accident. My concern is that my airbags did not deploy. The total front of my car was smashed in and the bumper just about torn off. Damage incurred by my car made it a total loss. Driverwho ran the red light was ticketed by the police. Looking at the damage to the front end of my car, the airbags should have gone off.

While driving my car I slowed down to make a turn and the engine suddenly stopped.no warning, shaking or decrease in speed. It just stopped I tried restarting but it wouldnt start until 10mins later. I was able to drive it to the dealership with no problems or lights on the dash but after I left (they couldn't see the car until 4 days later) leaving the lot the engine seemed to stall off and on for the 5 mile trip so I would put it in neutral when I would come to a light and coast to a stop, then restart. The wrench light came on and later the engine light. Also the RPM 's on the dash would go up to 4-5 but my engine speed would be 40 mph this scared me so bad, I parked the car until the appointment at the dearlership when I took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic but know codes came up. They did fix the throttle

Escape

  • 53,700 miles
In 2014, Ford recalled the vehicle to 'recalibrate' the powertrain control module to to prevent electronic throttle body (etb) failure, but in August 2016, the vehicle suffered etb failures resulting in an extremely limited ability to accelerate, rough idle and noticeable power loss. The first failure occurred in the middle of rush hour traffic on one of the busiest highways (95) in America where traffic was congested but moving at a high rate of speed, and a loss of power was incredibly dangerous as I was unable to keep up with the speed of traffic and/or merge onto another highway (66) at a high enough rate of speed. The failures continued to happen anytime the vehicle was on a highway going between 60-70 mph. Took the vehicle to Ford as early as their schedule would permit, but Ford was unable to fix the issue at the time because the part was on "national back order" and simply advised to pull the vehicle over and restart the engine to "reset" the throttle body. Such advice was unacceptable and dangerous. Living in a highly congested area where some highways and toll bridges do not have shoulders to pull over on nullified Ford's interim remedy. They were clearly not concerned about any driver's safety while waiting for parts to come in as they did not even offer another vehicle to drive in the meantime.

Car keeps stalling. While accelerating as well as at freeway speed (on streets and on the freeway). The obd-II reader says its code P2111 which is for the throttle body. Got it leaned immediately after stall. Immediately after picking it up from the shop, it stalled again, showing the same code on the reader. Upon further research these seem to be defective on many Ford Escapes of this year.

6 times suddenly lost acceleration without warning while driving. 4th, 5th and 6th time on 8/3/2016 on U.S. 25 at about 55 to 60 mph all in one day. No response from gas pedal, tachometer dropped to 0, wrench light came on. Was able to coast to side of road. Maintained pwr steering/brakes. Shut off engine, restarted/worked fine, wrench light off. Mileage about 65,000. 1st, 2nd it happened on side roads in town and the 3rd I was on a busy road in lexington ky on versailles road where semis were everywhere and I thought I was gonna get hit then. Wrench light came on while decelerating, light and throttle reset upon shutting of and restarting car. Ford says they will not repair unless code is present, code erases when car is shut off and will not drive until car is shut off and restarted. These incidents fit description of Ford "field service action" for electronic throttle body extended coverage. V dangerous!! I do not want to be driving this vehicle with it doing all of this especialyyy if I have my grandkids in the vehicle with me.

I just filed a complaint about my 2011 Ford Escape with the complaint number being 10873640. I entered the wrong VIN number so I am putting it in this message. The right VIN number is as follows: [xxx] the other VIN number was for my daughters Dodge Grand Caravan. Sorry for the mix-up. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
