Escape

2016 Escape with no history or problems prior to events here. During a trip from home approximately 50 miles away vehicle operated just fine. After a 5 min stop, I re-entered and started the vehicle. After about 2 miles and while on the highway traveling 70 mph vehicle suddenly shuttered and acceleration aggravated this situation. Power loss was present, and vehicle stalled out. I coasted to shoulder. Attempted numerous restarts that would seem to catch but soon stall out. Eventually got the vehicle to run enough to limp off the highway. Very low power. Parked for 20 min and restarted with no apparent issue. Engine light was present since first stall. Drove about 1 mile and symptoms returned. Low power and stalled out. Vehicle restarted and I again limped off highway. Eventually got to exit and off into a parking lot. Numerous stalls and never any real power. Waited for a tow from there and vehicle restarted with no issues when driving it onto the tow trailer. Fuel pressures were normal, and codes were P06A7, P0106 and P0236 were present and permanent which was also a new development. Permanent codes have been elusive. A previous recall on 2013-2014 Escapes fits this issue exactly. After numerous hours of research, I am convinced this is the same issue involved in the previous Ford tsb 13-12-12 and the previous tsb 13-7-5. I was in great danger when this vehicle stalled on the highway without warning. Rush hour traffic on 70 plus mph road with almost no shoulder. Because of this and the disabling of the airbags when this failure occurs along with the seat belt actuators, I think it's reasonable to assume this is a safety issue. I'm confident this issue can be replicated.

Prior Ford recall does not include my model and year but experiencing same issues as noted in recall #16S46 and dealer will not cover expenses. The turbocharger oil supply lines may not be brazed properly, resulting in an engine oil leak. Oil supply lines to the turbocharger in the engine compartment may leak engine oil. This could allow oil to leak onto hot engine components, creating a fire hazard. Our recent oil change, not at Ford, indicated that the mechanic identified an oil leak that is coming from the turbo line.

I was driving on a residential road on 11-24-18, on my way home when I hear a vibrating noise. I think it is my phone, but all of a sudden the car stalls. Thankfully I had no cars behind me so I power it down and then tune it back on and it gives a little issue turning back on but does. I make it home. It works fine the next few days. On 11-27-18 after only driving locally in between I take my Ford on the highway to go to the airport 30 mins away and all is fine until the ride back home on the highway. I hear the vibrating noise again as if I was going over rumble strips on 95. The car goes on a little longer and then shuts down again. Power remains on but the car stalls. I am taking it in today. I hope to get this resolved as fast as possible. I bought a new car for a reason. Reliability and now I am just annoyed that this is happening with only 32K miles on the 2016 Escape.

Escape

  • 30,000 miles
I purchased a 2016 Ford Escape in late 2015 and in 2018 with 30000 miles the engine let go, requiring a replacement engine. Additional, issues developed as the vehicle would be delayed for a month and was driven by an underage driver. Thus no one would provide a rental car for her to leave the state. The only option given was to trade a vehicle under warranty back to the Ford dealership. During this process we learned that the state would require title changes requiring branding for incorrect mileage. We have since identified the vehicle was repaired and sold for more than Ford allowed on the trade. Secondarily it does not appear the title was properly branded. When contacting Ford executives in writing (certified mail) I received no response after 2 attempts for resolution. Upon calling their complaint department, I was told there was no open case when asked if one could be opened, I was told "you are the owner and there is nothing we can do for you". with much perseverance and sharing knowledge regarding current recalls; for the very problem we experienced a case number was provided; but would not grant a timeline for future expectations. This the same engine as in the Ford Focus which is currently under a massive recall. The vehicle sounds started while in motion, but the engine blew up while in the shop under a defined diagnostic test that Ford was running per there recall program bulletin.

Vehicle was parked in a town center parking lot, and I went in to a restaurant to have dinner. After about 5-10 minutes, several people came running in to advise that a grey Ford was on fire in the parking lot. I have a silver 2016 Ford Escape, so I went out to see if I needed to move my car, and to my surprise realized that it was my car on fire. The entire engine compartment was in flames... and the fire department arrived shortly thereafter to put the fire out. The vehicle appears totaled and my insurance company has towed it away. The engine was a 1.6L turbocharged model... and on checking on the internet, there appear to have been multiple engine fires with this model engine. I never received a recall notice or any other type of notification from Ford motors, and the vehicle ran totally fine until the fire, with no coolant leaks, or engine overheating.

While driving or accelerating from a stop, the car will stall and/or the engine will shut off. The problem has been on going since March 2018, when it was first noticed. The car was taken back to the dealership on Apr 2018 and they were unable to determine the cause. After 3 visits for the same problem, the dealership replaced the fuel sensor. On May 26, 2018, the car failed again. The "service engine" light came on this time whereas, previously it did not. The car was taken to the nearest Ford dealership. The throttle valve was replaced per the code. However, the car continued to stall and failed again. Service engine light di come on - but since has "reset" because it is now gone. My concern over the stalling is that it happens at any time and at any speed. The reaction is as if the car is running out of gas where it spits and sputters. If a semi is behind me at 65-70 mph, they will Ram into me because the decrease in speed would not give them time to react. So dangerous. Since April 2018, the car has been in for the same problem - 4 times and needs to go back again. Bottom line - no one knows what to do to correct.

While driving on 85N in atanta, ga, while roughly driving at a speed of 65mph in the middle lane at 7am on Friday, January 12, 2018, the battery light came on and the car shut completely off and with no warning! I take excellent care of the car with routine maintenance and have approximately 51K miles on it. For this car to turn off in the middle of morning rush hour traffic on an atlanta major interstate, not only endangered my life but the lives of hundreds of other drivers! thankfully there was a gap in the traffic behind me so I was able to guide the car out of the middle of the interstate since while the car was still in movement but with no power. I barely made on to the shoulder. After sitting on the shoulder for over 30 mins, waiting on a tow truck, the car finally started back up. I still had it towed to the Ford dealership where I purchased it and have my maintenance done on the car. After having the car for 3 days I was told that they can not "duplicate the error". diagnostics were run on the car multiple times and no issues were found. This is unacceptable. It is not normal for a car to turn off in the middle of a major interstate and for the cars computer to not have a record of the shut down. In addition to that, what if it happens again but I am injured or injure someone else! I've looked at other complaints for the same type of vehicle and other motorists have experienced the same type of problem; the car turning off while driving. Something is seriously wrong with the 2016 Ford Escape and Ford isn't properly addressing the problems!

Escape

  • 14,000 miles
Safety hazard and serious life threatening situation exists when this problem occurs on the highway and especially in front of a semi tractor trailer truck doing the speed limit. Numerous times, (12 times between 14,000 and 15,363 miles) the 2016 Ford Escape has had complete power loss during acceleration causing vehicle to abruptly begin shaking, lose power, lose steering, lose braking and immediately shudder to a stop. Service engine light comes on, message reads: Engine fault service now. (see attached photo) engine remains running. If one tries to continue driving the vehicle stumble and won't shift from low gear without a very hard torquing sound. This Ford Escape broke down in front of a Ford dealer and the code read by this dealers computer is P0322-PCM. According to an internet search the P0322 code definition: If the PCM (powertrain control module) detects an erratic, interrupted, or otherwise unexpected input signal from the distributor or the crankshaft position sensor, it will store the P0322 code, and the check engine light will be turned on. On this vehicle the code is only active when the fault occurs, and the engine is running. The codes do not store in memory. Ignition can be shut off, the warning message disappears and many times the car is able to be driven again for miles before reoccurring. The leasing dealer states they have a process to follow in order to fix the problem. They have to replicate the problem or they do nothing. Using my printout from another dealer with the code is meaningless to them, even though they know the source of the problem and that the condition is life threatening. They say that if I feel the condition is life threatening then do not drive the car. A formal case has been opened with Ford customer assistance, however they only notify the service manager that there is a problem, which he already knows.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle actuator system malfunctioned. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unable to contact the local dealer due to an ongoing strike at the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 8,592.

Carbon monoxide: There is a strong smell of exhaust frequently in the vehicle. I turned on a multi-gas monitor to find carbon monoxide levels as high as 100 ppm and oxygen concentrations below 19%. this occurs at idle as well as while driving. There does not appear to be any difference between windows rolled up or down, air on or off, or recirculation on or off. I do not get any warning lights on the dash. I searched the internet and saw that there was a similar issue with 2011-2014 Explorer but not much information on the Escape. I called my local dealership and there were not aware of an issue either. I have an appointment to take it in and see what can be done to fix the problem. The only mechanical problem that the vehicle has is a warning light and reduction of power when the turbo charger gets overheated.

Engine shuts down while driving and the service engine now light come on. I was in the passing lane doing 65mph this morning when it cut out. I was lucky to make it into the breakdown lane without getting hit. I put the car in park and the engine sputters like it is only running on one cylinder. If I shut it off and restart it, the service engine now light go out. The car only has 11,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealer and was told that unless the service engine now light was on, they cant fix it. This issue has happened 3 times over the course of two weeks. I am afraid I will get into an accident when this happens.
