This is the second Ford vehichle purchased. Initial vehicle traded because of saftey issue involving seat belt malfunction. This particular vehicle needed an engine replaced and extensive transmission repairs. Ford Motor Company is basically untouchable for comments. Service technician at dealership admitted to knowing the engines in the 1997- 1999 Expedition were having problems. I was never notified.

Vehicle has been taken to dealership 4 different times, dealer claims that transmission has been relplaced with new transmission. Dealer refuses to return phone calls or talk to me concerning the vehicle.

At 3000 miles the engine was replaced due to a knock in the engine. At 11,000 miles there was a severe vibration in the drive train at 65 mph with the vechile under load - Ford couldn't identify the problem and had no fix. At 12,500 miles the torque converter failed resulting in the vechile stalling at stops. The torque converter and transmission were replaced. This reduced the vibration but did not eliminate it. Again Ford tried several times but could not identify and correct the problem. At 21,000 miles the vechile lost all power and would only move by reving the engine (like severe clutch slippage on a manual transmission). Ford is presently investigating. Both failures could have resulted in severe accidents if the driving conditions had been slightly different at the time of the failures. The problem appears to me to be in the computer constrol system for the transmission resulting in possibly the second failre of the transmission.

I have had the vehicle in for service a total of 8 times for various reasons, but have had the vehicle in 3 times for the same thing and still not fixed. Thank god my tires have not blown out.

Bought new car 8/11/99. On 9/27/99 at 2, 284 miles the vehicle started showing signs of transmission failure. The car would not shift into gears properly and would lunge forward. Ford replace the control module. They took it for a test drive and it failed immediately. They replaced it with another. The vehicle was finally ready for us to pick up on 10/15/99. Three miles away from the dealership, the transmission failed again. We took it back immediately. Ford replaced it again and we got our car back on 10/28/99. On 8/7/00 we brought our car back to Ford again. The vehicle would lunge forward while stopped, loose power or stall while driving or stopped. Took it to Ford again. Replaced transmission again. Vehicle out of service for a total of 36 days in one year and had 4 repair attempts to correct vehicle. No reasonable or safe reason to drive - unsafe.

Transmission is leaking over and over again after being fixed.

When driving vehicle downshifts and slows down. Dealer has seen vehicle, and couldn't solve the problem.
- Camp Springs, MD, USA
Stopped to 30 mph noise that is said to be normal. Sounds as if something is slipping in trasmission or in the 4-wheel drive system
- Dover, DE, USA
While driving transmission lost shifting power. This would happen at different speeds. Was hard getting vehicle to restart. Finally stopped working. Taken vehicle to dealership & contacted the manufacturer. The problem of lost shifting power was not resolved.

I was driving to nyc and went to park in a rest area and as I was turning to park the car shut off.I turned it on again and it was fine.one hour later again while driving and making a right turn the light in the dash board turned on and the radio shut off and then it the truck drove fine.the next day I went over a small break on the road and the lights on the dash board went on and the radio off and like always I had no problems driving it home.on 10-30-99 I was driving and I could not go faster than 35 miles it felt like the car lock or I was driving in neutral and all the sudden the truck took speed and it was driving fine until I tried turning right the stering wheel became hard to turn and it was making a click click sound when I turn the stering wheel to the right.iwas able to drive home as long as I didn't turn right.after I park the car I turn the wheel to the right and it continued on making the click click sound.

1) upon accelerating from a stop, the transmission/transfer case seems to slip and shudder as if the tires are not grabbing the road. This is at all speeds, whether slow or quick starts. Also, during high speed acceleration such as when passing on the highway, there is a low pitch growling sound and vibration as if the engine mounts are broken. 2) the front intermittent wipers turn on by themself occasionally, usually just for one sweep then turn back off. 3) the rear automatic load leveling air shocks on one occasion deflated totally after being parked for about 4 hours. The truck chassis was nearly touching the rear tires, I was unable to drive away until they reinflated after starting the vehicle.

The windshield wipers fail to work when needed. On dry days would come on, on wet days do not come on. Rear wiper was repaired. Now neither works, front or rear. Transmission will not shift properly. Had it checked & metal pieces had broken off. Transmission burnt out. Had the piston replaced. The power winddows would go up & down without key insertion.
- Moreno Valley, CA, USA
Transmission is slipping when accelerating at low speeds. Dealer states it is normal operation.
- Burke, VA, USA
When vehicle began to move transmission began to slip. When stopping one can feel the transmission jerking. Dealership changed the spark plug and the hose clamp, (2) test drove vehicle, and recognized the slipping, but could not remedy the problem. (3) engineer checked transmission and it was okay. Second engineer tested and said it was normal. Manufacturer said if brakes fail they would be able to fix them.
