Explorer Eddie Bauer V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

I am having the same problem everyone else has described. I brought my vehicle in on 4/10/2007 because I need the oil changed and because I wanted them to take a look at a problem I had been having for several weeks prior. When I would slow down to stop, there would often be a "lurching" motion... almost like the vehicle was having trouble down shifting and would "pop" into the lower gear... hard. It was not happening every time, but quite often. The mechanics at Ford test drove it and (miraculously) also felt the lurching and, at that same time, the "check engine" light came on. They gave me a rental car and told me they need to replace the PCM (computer). They told me it was not safe to drive in that condition, hence the rental car. They keep my Explorer for 6 days. I picked it up again on 4/16/2007. They said they replaced the PCM and reset it and that I should be good to go. Within a week, the lurching was back again and so I brought the vehicle back to Salinas Valley Ford on 4/26/2007. The service manager said they thought perhaps the transmission had been damaged as a result of the previous PCM malfunction and that they would have to drop the transmission and take a look. I was given another rental vehicle as they thought it might take up to a week to get a transmission technician to look at it. After 12 days, they finally called me. They said that they did not look at the transmission, because "the Ford Hot Line told us not to". Instead they reset the PCM again and said "we will have to wait for the problem to get worse before we're able to do anything more for you". They said the best case scenario for them would be for me to be stranded somewhere (I swear to you... I am not making this up) They said they did not feel any "lurching" in the 12 days they had it. However, it has continued to lurch nearly non-stop ever since. I love the vehicle except for this and I am really upset about it.

Explorer XLT V8

As I can see I am not the only person with this problem. I thought I was buying a reliable car, but that was not the case. I am so fed up with this jolting every time I come to a stop and even sometimes when I am accelerating and I am tired of hearing the same thing from the Ford service department. The first time I brought it in they said they had to update the system, as I was leaving the dealership I felt it again, so I brought it back for the second time and they said they had weekly updates and that it should be resolved now. The same thing happened the jolting was still there, and they told me to bear with them. After having the same result I decided to take my car to a different ford dealership for the third time for the same problem this time it seemed as if the problem had been fixed, but after about two weeks of driving it the problem is still there, and I am now bringing it back for the fourth time. I can’t say enough how fed up I am with this problem and afraid of having an accident. The jolting is present every time I drive this car it’s not a good feeling having to come to a stop and have to worry about how bad the jolt is going to be, this is something I have to think about constantly I am so tense and scared all the time. Ford needs to do something about this immediately!

Explorer Limited V8

  • Automatic transmission

Same issues as most others. I would accelerate and it would go into gear very hard. When I stop it would feel like I got bumped/rear ended to the point that I would look in the mirror to see who hit me. I have almost hit people in parking lots as this happens majority of the time but not every time. after taking it to Ford 9 times it not being corrected, I was very frustrated and tired of them telling me it is the way I drive, and that is a normal thing for Ford. They then offered to give me an extended warranty which still doesn't fix the problem. I then contacted the Better Business Bureau and began a case. I submitted all the records/service info/ phone conversations etc. I then had a hearing and I was able to duplicate the concerns with this vehicle. This whole procedure with the BBB took a solid 2 months. Needless to say. I WON!!!!! Ford has 1 month to REPURCHASE the vehicle. This is a definite issue and someone is going to get seriously injured. I will never own or recommend a Ford after all the horrible experience and the way I was treated. ..... FYI: Keep all documents and don't give up. Ford needs to do something about this.

Explorer XLT V8

I've had the exact same problem as everyone else. The surging from 1st to 2nd gear. Was hurt badly. I am undergoing 12 weeks of physio for neck, shoulder, and back problems that came about when the truck surged forward four times throwing me into the steering wheel. Gave the vehicle back to Ford stating that I refused to drive and saying that it was completely unsafe. They sent me a letter stating that they are going to resell the vehicle (no repairs have been done!!!) and letting me know that I must pay them the shortfall of sale price to what they say it is worth. Have contacted a lawyer and am preparing to take Ford to court. Recommend more people do the same before they end up hurt too. I don't think that Ford can find the problem so therefore won't issue a recall. Ford of Canada rep. told me that the vehicle was not even capable of surging forward and that it must be a problem with me!!!! Also Ford said that they have never recieved any simular complaints about surging. What a lie!! I've owned 6 fords in 12 years and will never never drive another ford again. I'm just glad that I found this web site to prove that is wasn't my fault.

My problem is exactly as described here by other owners - when you come to a full stop at either a traffic light or stop sign, the car lunges forward, but not all the time. I have brought this to the attention of the dealership on 5 different servicing occasions, and they always tell me they can find nothing wrong. I hope Ford DOES something about this as it is hazardous, especially if someone is in front of you when you stop. If there is no resolution soon, maybe we should all consider finding a Lemon Law attorney and turning them all in. I am paying plenty for this car every month and am really disturbed to have to deal with this. I "thought" I bought the top of the line. What a joke.

I too have a 2006 Eddie Bauer Explorer V8 six speed transmission.

It too lunges, jerks at stops and take offs. I have had my car into the dealership 5 times already and they still can not fix the problem.A service bulletin was issued but problem still exists. It is getting ready to go in a 6th time for the same issue. They have replaced the computer chip, reprogammed the computer chip, replaced the valve body and the car works for about 2 weeks and starts all over again. We have called Ford and were given a regional contact... but it takes her 3 weeks to call you back or you can't even leave a message because her voice mail is full. Poor customer service bottom line. Based off of everybody elses complaints here ford treats everybody the same way and all the dealerships have the same scripted answers to give to us. We have bought 13 ford vehicles in the last 11 yrs.. where is the customer service...... I think all they are doing is buying time until they can figure out what the problem is on our expense.

I have the same complaint everyone has about their Ford Explorer with a V8 engine. The car is horrible to drive. It pulls forward when stopping and going. Sometimes so bad it feels like you just got rear ended. You also hear a loud noise and a pulling feeling coming from the bottom of the car. I've had my car to the dealership 5 times and have contacted Ford Motor Corporation. I'm just getting the runaround from everyone. I stopped driving the car because I get so angry everytime it happens. Ford needs to seriously fix the problem or buy back my car!

Explorer V8

  • Automatic transmission

I purchased my wonderful $40,000 V8 Eddie Bauer and was totally in love with it for the first 10,000 miles. Then the transmission jolting started. I noticed it first when I would come to a stop, I kept looking in the rear view mirror to see who hit me. If it didn't jolt when I stopped, it would jolt when I started, so hard, my daughter spilled the drink she was holding. The dealership? I've had it there twice. The first time they reprogrammed the computer and said it had to "relearn" my driving, no difference. The second time they changed my oil and said there was nothing wrong. Its going back again and if they don't get this thing fixed, they are going to get it back!

Explorer Eddie Bauer V8

The transmission 'kicks' when coming to a stop, almost as if someone has just bumped into your rear end. I took it to the dealer who said there were service bulletins released about the 2006 V8 engine's transmission. They replaced a part which fixed the problem for about 2 weeks but now it is back and worse then ever. Taking car back for 2nd time to dealer along with several print outs from web sites showing complaints about same issue. This has become a safety issue and should be a Ford recall, not just a service bulletin.

purchased vehicle new, but after one month transmission problems started - lunging, high rev, hard pronounced shift jolt, acts like cruise control is still on when you try to stop... you really have to push hard on the brake... almost had an accident today... Ford replaced the transmission, we are still having these problems, they won't admit there is further issues since replacement of transmission. Very frustrating... won't have my grandbaby in vehicle. it shifted so hard one day that my husbands back hurt for three days! i would not recommend the V8 at all! we have had it in to the dealer a total of 5 times and its going back tomorrow again.... looks like i have a lemon doesn't it? Ford needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing here!
