Felt like the transmission was going out of the vehicle and it was still brand new. Dealership said it was a programming issue and had to install new software? This happened 2 more times before it was okay for 1 1/2 years

My Ford Explorer is jerking and slipping when it goes though the auto gears. It has been in the shop twice. First they thought it was the gear shift box. They replaced that, now there not sure what the problem could be. I just want my car fixed. If they don't know what the problems is they should replace the vehicle!

I returned with the same symptoms after a $1500 repair bill and they replaced the Drive Shaft, Transfer Case and rebuilt the front differential. They had my car for 3 weeks and when I picked it up it was perfect...for 300 miles! It is now BACK IN THE SHOP! I drove it 300 miles and again have a grinding noise that sounds like the car is stuck in 4 Wheel Drive...this car is a lemon and I intend to post the VIN on Car Facts so that nobody else gets stuck with it when I turn it in on May 11th...DON"T BUY OR LEASE A FORD...they are not "built to last"! I reached out to Ford Customer Service and they offered no assistance or apology.

Hoping something has come out of recent that fixes the problem.

No rant - it is not productive.
I had a 2002 Explorer V-8 5-speed automatic with the common transmission "O/D light blinking" complaint. It bit the dust far from home, local dealer convinced me to buy this 2007 Explorer V-8 6-speed automatic on the spot. At about 10K miles, I began to notice that when coming to a stop, the transmission lurches as it makes the last downshift (into 1st gear). I don't know if this is just annoying, or is the start of something big, but the previous experience has sensitized me.

i'm having the same exact problem as everyone else.. when i go to a stop, i feel the car jerk forward because its shifting to a lower gear. even when i accelerate, i feel it shifting gears and jerking as well. i THOUGHT that maybe its because when i drive, i turn it on and just go right ahead (thought maybe i was suppose to wait for the car to warm up before driving, but that doesnt make sense because i never done that with cars before this one, and i never had this problem) i'm going to bring my car in to ford this monday to have them take a look at it.

Purchased this vehicle in November 2007 as a demo with 13000kms on it. Since the date of purchase this vehicle has been in the dealership (ROSE CITY FORD) six times for the same transmission problems. It constantly jerks, miss shifts, and down shifts hard. The vehicle hesitates when you hit the gas. The dealership keeps saying that this is normal for this vehicle. I do not feel safe driving this SUV. I have had friends and family drive my truck, just to make sure I am not crazy. ALL of felt the same issues. I have owned and driven many vehicles in my life and nothing like this has happened before. I WILL never purchase another FORD vehicle.

Complained of transmission problem at first oil change. Ford dealer said that it was normal. Now my Explorer has been at the dealers 4 times for repair of this problem. They had it off and on for about 24 days. Done numerous reprograms and problem always comes back. Now it jerks and lunges in reverse as well. This is the vehicle my kids ride in and there is no way Ford can say they are safe riding in it. All it is going to take is for it to lunge forward while we are stopped at a light or stop sign and some big truck slamming into us for my kids to get hurt. I'm tired of getting the run around from my Ford dealer. The last time they had it in they even scratched up one whole side of it and then gave me a hard time about it and refuse to fix it. Saying I can't prove they did it.

When coming to a stop the transmission kicked as if someone had run into the back of us or the transmission would unexpectedly lunge the SUV forward as it came to a stop. I find out Ford has been aware of this problem for some time with no recall. Not even a letter to customers asking them to take their vehicle in if the transmission is acting up. Selling vehicles knowing full well the transmission has a problem and intentionally hiding this fact from the customer constitutes deception and possible fraud. When I took my Explorer in I was asked to pay $150.00, even with an extended warranty. Under extended warranties dealerships, along with Ford's approval are charging customers for diagnostic testing if no part is replaced. I would like to point out to Ford, if the transmission is kicking and lunging forward something is wrong with an interactive part of the transmission to cause such a problem. In order to fix this problem the dealership has to reprogram and replace the bad part with a new part. It is not a physical part you can see or hold in your hands, however, Ford is replacing a bad software part with a new software part. Customers with extended warranties should not have been charged for the diagnostic testing nor reprogramming of this part. In addition, customers without extended warranties should not have been charged since Ford knew full well there was an existing transmission problem at the time of sale. Not only has Ford deceived their customers but is knowingly stealing money from their pockets.
