Very disappointed in my 2013 Ford Explorer Limited. After many years of owning Japanese cars I decided to give Ford a try. I regret my $45,000 investment. Within the past 28k miles, I have had a bad battery, 3 bad fuel pumps replaced under a recall, evaporative problem which turned on the check engine light, and now I have rust bubbles on the hood. Very disappointed in the quality as I have never had problems with cars with that low of mileage.
Ford refuses to replace the hood and insist on sanding and repainting it even though the problem could lie in the way the metal was treated, so in essence, I have no guarantee this will not reoccur. I think Ford needs to issue a recall and replace the hoods with factory pre-finished hoods and not just patch up the problem.

Took my vehicle in for the normal oil change. I asked to have the body shop look at it, which they did. Manager said he'd never seen this issue before.....yeah right. So he asked how many miles do I have on the vehicle, which I replied 36,434. Ohhh, you're out of the 36K mile warranty. ???? What? I don't care if it has 50K miles, a 2013 shouldn't have paint problems. Needless to say it's a pissing contest to see if they are going to keep a good customer.
Update from Jun 15, 2015: So update- Shortly after this post I was contacted by the dealership and the hood has since been repainted. While it's unusual for Ford to do this, it was the dealership that made the call. So for that I thank the crew at Riverside Ford for putting your customers before policy.

I am really upset that my 2013 Ford Explorer hood is starting to bubble and rust. I have only had it for 1 year and the paint along the front of the hood is bubbling up. I had a reputable body shop call FORD and FORD will not cover because there is over 30,000 miles on it and if there was a hole in the rusted area they would cover if under 100,000 miles.

I just found this the day while I was waxing the car, so I'm currently waiting on ford to approve the problem so I can have it fixed. The dealer did tell me the hood is aluminum, there are like 8 different spots where the bubbles appeared along the front lip of the hood..
Update from Apr 9, 2014: Ford is repainting the hood
Update from Apr 10, 2014: We'll I got my car back from the dealer and come to find out the new paint is only warranted to my original 3/36 warranty no extra time no my new paint is only covered for another 15 months..

Had hood blasted and repainted after finding problem, problem has reoccurred. Ford has denied this claim. Found the same problem on a brand new Flex

This is my 4th Explorer and probably my 10-12 Ford. None of my previous Fords had any paint issues. There was a report on a Chicago TV station about an independent study was requested by Ford. Apparently they did not like the answer by the firm that stated that Ford was not preparing their metal for paint adequately and their paint was to thin, so they fired them.
Mine is bubbling around the edge of the hood and the paint is chipping off in the same area. I bought this vehicle in Texas and it has never seen a winter, so it is obvious a factory defect.
Our 2010Black Ford Escape has no issues, not does my 2009 Mercury sable.
I take pride in taking care of my vehicles, so this is really upsetting to me
Now the question is whether Ford will stand by it. I took it to the dealer I bought the Escape from in Michigan and its been a week with out any word from Ford. I'm headed back to Texas and will see if the dealer down there will remove rust and repaint hood under warranty. I plan on putting some undercoating under the hood to try and prevent it from happening again. If it does and Ford doesn't do anything about it, there going to lose a long time Ford supporter.
