First two incidents involved tire blowouts at 50-70 mph. Each blowout appears to start as a tear along the outter edge of the tread where it meets the belts and then tore to a point in the sidewall. Essentially tearing a triangular chunk out fo the side of the tire. In reading all about current recall, it seems these tires are experiencing a similar problem. I do prescribed regular maintainence (3K) as directed by Ford and almost all my miles are highway miles. Now I have a third tire exhibiting tire peal when not 2K miles ago I had Firestone representative tell me I had at least 10K miles left on all my tires. I find it incredibly hard to believe such a highly rated product as Firestone produces should fail 3 times on the same vehicle in the same fashion. If you need to see the tire that's peeling I still have it. But independent tire dealers have all said treadwear would indicate longer tire life but the tire is definetly peeling of the belts.( dot number: Tire size: P235-70R16 )

2 of 4 tires have developed considerable cracks around the tread line on the sidewall of the tire. I have taken the truck to 2 different Firestone dealers and get varied inspection reports. At one of the service centers, a service mechanic tells me that he "wouldn't drive the vehichle on the highway under any circumstances in the state that they (tires) are in" while his manager tells me that "the cracks are probably caused by armor all". the other service center manager I took the truck to tells me that he has placed a call in to Firestone to see about this particular incident since the tires are not on the recall list but are questionable. He was to get back to me but has not to date. My initial complaint was intermittant shutter in the front end when braking hard from high speed. The problem didn't seem to be brake related but might be tire related given that it doesn't happen all of the time and that the cracking tires are on the front of the truck. They were purchased from a local Firestone dealer as replacements for the oem wilderness ht tires sold on the truck when I purchased it new and have about 32,000 miles on them. Firestone will not tell me that they are safe but will not replace them because they are on "not on the list". one manager did tell me that Firestone would probably end up replacing additional tire sizes in the future. I am no tire expert but given the cracks developing which are more than "cosmetic" it would appear that there are more issues with other sizes of this line of tire from Firestone. Any assistance or advise would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, steven D. terrell( dot number: Tire size: P255-70R16 )

This is the 3rd original tire which has lost it's tread; the 1st two in febuary of this year (see previous report to NHTSA). This trip was in 108 degree temperatures traveling from austin, Texas to dallas, Texas. I have been very deligent to check the pressure in my tires once a week due to my travels to construction sites. My 4 year old son was traveling with me on this trip as his last summer roadtrip before school. Losing the tread this time scared me more with my son riding shotgun. These tires are still not on the replacement lists. The Ford dealer blew me off because he could do nothing because the tires are not on the recall list, and he said he could not get tires anyway. The Firestone dealer was also as helpful, doing nothing. Please do something for our kids futures, like put some safe tires under their parents cars and nail Firestone for their shoddy workmanship.( dot number: W 208 ipt tire size: P235/70R16 )

I had just merged onto 287 business North, when I heard the tire rip and a subsequent blow out. I measure the tire pressure of the other 3 tires and the pressure read good. The tire depth was just over 4mm, but the store manager who put new tires on my vehicle said that the tire wear was evenly distributed. I know the tires were approaching replacement time, but I dont think the tire should have failed.( dot number: W208irc039 tire size: P235/70R16 )

The tire has approximatly 10 inches of visable tread seperation, this was noticed when I replaced the wheels and tires with new ones. The tire in question is no where near the wear bars built into the tire. I would like to know if there is any problem with these tires because I replaced the old tires with the same brand and make of tire. Are you wondering why I replaced tires I thought were good? I ordered wheels from tirerack.com and they had the Firestone wilderness ht 235/70R 16 on sale for $60 a tire with free mounting and balancing on the wheels I bought from them. The bad tires are still on the stock rims, if you want pictures, etc. Let me know.( dot number: W2081pt136 tire size: 235/70R 16 )

I replaced my Firestone Wilderness AT tires on 7/28/00 because of cracks on the sidewalls (just prior to recall). I showed this to a service advisor at townsend MA. Ford on 9/25/98 but was advised Ford does not warranty tires. My brother-in-law w/same truck & tires blew out the sidewalls of two tires while traveling on dirt roads going to his camp in northern Maine. We both believe there is a defect with the P235/70R16 series of Firestone wilderness tires. Although they do not qualify for the current recall program, nor did they exhibit the reported tread separation problem, I am convinced the "cracked sidewall" issue should be investigated. I would like to be notified if a defect is verified.( dot number: Vn08ipu496 tire size: P235/70R16 )
