Was turning a corner at 15mph when right rear tire blew. Maintained control of Caravan. Checked tires & all had cracks down the center of tread, and was also pitted down to the tread pattern. Tires were inspected prior to the blowout. Contacted road side service. Firestone, wilderness ht, P235/70R16 with 24,000 miles.

I purchased a 1999 F150 on 5/9/00. I recently bought new tires for my truck and found out that one of the wheels was bent on the inside. The bend in the wheel was bad enough that the wheel could not be balanced properly and would wobble. I then proceded to put on my spare tire and noticed that the spare tire was a different size than what was on the truck when I purchased it. The size on the truck is 255/ 70R 16. Manufacturer required size is 235/70R/16. I brought this problem to the selling dealer and set an appointment for them to take a look. I am asking for your help because I feel I have been taken advantage of and they will think I caused the problem. I did not cause this problem. This truck was sold to me in this condition. I just now found out I had this problem just because I wanted new tires before winter hits. Any information you can give me will be very helpful. Thank you very much.

While traveling home from vacation on interstate hwy.driving appx. 65 mph. For appx 4 hours left rear tire exploded, shredding all the way around the rim on the outer side. I went to purchase a new tire and was told that a recall was coming out on wilderness tires. I called my Ford dealer and was told no decision had been made as to the tire size, type vehicle and who will relace the tires. I sent Firestone an E-mail message and recieved a general reply stating only 15 in.tires were involved in the recall. I still hane not replaced the spare tire on this leased vehicle I'm sorry to say it sounds like I might have to shop at G.M... a gener. (dot number: W208 tiresize: P23570R16)

My background includes over 10 years in transportation maintenance including tire failure analysis. While traveling 75 mph on I17N, I heard the tire tread separate from the casing. The tread was beating against the truck body. The casing deflated within seconds. I was lucky to be able to control the vehicle to the shoulder. It has been my experience that the tire manufacturers produce other private label tires for other companies. Someone may want to check if the Decatur plant was making any other tires for anyone. I bought this vehicle new in March 1999. My tires have been rotated every 5000 miles. I have not overloaded my truck or hauled anything heavy. My tires are worn all the way down to the 2/32" wear indicators and are vibrating at highway speeds and wobbling at low speeds. Firestone does not want to pro-rate the tires unless I can prove that there is a manufacturing defect. If there is no manufacturing defect then I have to pay full price for new tires. I have talked to a number of people who have had the same problems as I am having with these tires. The tires are sold with a 60,000 mile treadwear warranty.( dot number: Unsure tire size: P235/70R16 )

The tires on this vehicle are too small. It has passenger car tires and not small truck tires, this has caused two tires to blow out and a flat. Dealer has been contacted. Dealer states that these are the right size tires.
