Approximately 10:30 am on 3/10/07, Ford F150 2000 model spontaneously erupted in flame somewhere in the engine compartment. Vehicle had not been used since approximately 5:30 pm the previous day. Was able to extinguish the fire after approximately 5 minutes. Most of the engine compartment appears to be destroyed.

My truck, owned by my company, had been sitting in the alley where I was working not running. The 2000 Ford F-150 ext -cab 2-wd pickup caught fire for no reason, the fire started at the driver side wheel well at the hood level, once the fire started there was no stopping it. I was lucky the fire caused no damage to people or other peoples property. The truck had a recall issue with the speed control module, this truck was listed with Ford on the web site. I never received the notice. I have contacted Ford, we will see. This is a small company with limited funds, not insured for this, my own fault.

The repair mechanic installed a helicoil in the threads of the cylinder head and replaced the spark plug coil. The vehicle was parked on the dealer's lot and caught fire from the engine compartment. The fire damaged the wire harness, speed control, and the engine. In October 2006 the contact request the dealer honor NHTSA recall #05V388000 (Ford recall #05S28) pertaining to the vehicle speed control. The dealer would not cover the recall stating the contact never responded to the recall notice. The contact stated that he never received recall notice. The contact has pictures of the vehicle.

: the contact stated the vehicle was driving 55 mph off the interstate on normal road conditions when a fire was noticed coming from the underbody of the vehicle. The contact pulled over just as the fire spread throughout the vehicle. The contact was not injured. A police and fire report were taken. The fire department could not determine the cause of the fire. The vehicle was towed to a local independent mechanic, who determined the fire could have possibly been caused by the fuel, but could not find the component involved in the fire. The manufacturer was called and stated the vehicle was included in a recall regarding the vehicle speed control, however the contact found a possible NHTSA recall # 06E056000 regarding the fuel system, gasoline that related more to the fire that occurred on the vehicle. However, the vehicle was not included in this recall due to the VIN. The manufacturer was not claiming responsibility nor provided further assistance. The vehicle was deemed totaled.

On Oct. 28th 2006 at 3:00 am our Ford F-150 ignited and burned in our driveway there was a recall on the cruise control for doing this very thing when the dealer was called they said our truck wasn't involved. Ford said it was and now says it was burned to badly for them to tell if it was there fault.

I got off work at 6:00 pm and went straight to the gym (approx. 1 mi.). I left the gym at 7:00 pm, and drove home (approx 1 mi.). I got home about 7:15 pm and went inside and watched television with my family until 8:30 pm, which is when I went to bed. My wife and I woke up at 11:30 pm from a bright light coming through our bedroom window. When we looked out the window the light we had seen was the whole front end of my 2000 Ford F-150 engulfed in flames. We called 911 and the fire dept. Responded. My wife's car a 2002 Hyundai accent was parked in front of the truck and had the rear bumper and tail lights melted on it before I could get it moved. About 1 year ago I had to have the mass flow air sensor replaced on the truck and the dealership supposedly took care of the cruise control recall that was placed on that model.

The dealer was contacted, and suggested that a letter should be provided to the manufacturer's Consumer Affairs deferment. There were two NHTSA recalls #05V388000 and #05V017000 pertaining to the vehicle speed control. The contact never received a NHTSA letter. The manufacturer was contacted and suggested that the vehicle's owner needed to provide a letter of representation. Pictures of the burned vehicle were available.

: the contact stated while driving 10 mph, there was a smell of something electrical burning, followed by smoke billowing from under the hood. Upon exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed flames near the master cylinder. The fire was quickly extinguished. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined that the cruise control deactivation switch had burned. There were no immediate repairs made. The manufacturer was notified, who informed the contact that there had been 4 recall notices for NHTSA recall# 05V388000 sent out for that vehicle. The contact stated that none of those notices had been received.

I purchased a used 2000 Ford F150 in Feb.- 2003 from a Ford dealership in fayetteville, nc. On August 8, 2005 that truck caught fire and destroyed our home and home based business, we were not home at the time of the fire. We arrived home about 15 minutes after. Then nothing but a fire ball and my house burning! jennifer sat down beside a fire truck and laid her head on her knees for 3 hours unable to comfort her two small children and I was in complete shock and held my daughter for over 3 hours in my arms and I could not even speak. I only remember asking jennifer, "what happened and what will happen to us now." A neighbor was driving home that day and said he saw flames coming out from under the hood of my truck which was parked partially under the carport. He said the truck was then within seconds burning so fiercely that it blew up like a bomb sending a fire bomb into our home. I could not believe it when he said that my truck had caught fire and destroyed our home. We lost everything. I run a roofing company and jennifer handled all my paperwork - the office was set up at home so she could stay home with our children. We lost our business, home and memories such as pictures of our children and family. I am still trying to recover emotionally and financially from our loss due to fire. Ford Motor Co. Sent a investigator to investigate the fire and our homeowners ins. Investigator also was there the day "Ford finally sent someone to investigate the fire". jennifer's brother-in-law, an attorney in Texas told us about cruise control defect on some Ford vehicles. We were not aware of this. The cruise control was found by miracle and sent for X-ray and was found to be the cause of the fire. What if jennifer had been driving that truck on that day" what if I had lost my children and their mother" Ford Motor Company ruined our lives. We now live in a one bedroom house with three children.

On August 31 my 2000 Ford F-150 exploded in a driveway after being parked there for approximately 25 minutes the fire was from a recalled cruise control switch, Ford says they notified me March 23, 2006 about the switch however they sent the recall to an old address. The truck was a total loss and they have sent me a letter which says "Ford declines to provide any assistance at this time".

The vehicle was included in the NHTSA recall # 05V388000 concerning the cruise control, but no recall notification was received by the contact.

The consumer stated 2000 Ford F150 caught on fire and burned. This occurred on September 25, 2005. The vehicle had been parked between four to five hours. Everything on the vehicle worked correctly. The cruise control had not been used anytime recently. The fire began on the left side of the engine according to the fire investigator. The truck was parked in the car port, and the consumer walked out and found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. The fire department came and put the fire out. The consumer had not received any recall letter on the vehicle. Ford Motor Company has been called, and the consumer filed a report with them. Ford replied that consumer's insurance company would be back in touch with them. The dealership has not been contacted at this point, but will be called later. The insurance company came and took the truck to do their own investigations. Fire and insurance reports were taken.. the consumer has pictures available to view. There was additional property damage to the car port. There were no injuries. The truck was totaled. The consumer will have access to when the copy will bee received. Will also provide information for NHTSA.

Vehicle had been several times at different Ford dealers, and they indicated there was nothing wrong, the service manager stated he did hear the noise, but Ford did not know what it was. Therefore, they couldn't do anything.
