We purchased a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup in October 2003. We received a recall notice from Ford and took the vehicle to a local Ford dealer in February 2005 to have the repair work performed. We were told this was an interim repair and permanent repairs would be made once replacement parts were more widely available. On Saturday, July 1, 2006, our 2000 Ford F-150 exploded while sitting in our driveway. The resulting fire destroyed the truck and caused considerable damage to our home. The truck had not been driven for 24 hours before it exploded. The local fire chief stated the fire was caused by an electrical problem on the driver's side of the truck's engine. Please note the truck exploded after we had the repair work done in accordance with Ford's recall notice.

We have fallen victim to Ford's compartment fire issue. From everything we have just researched, it appears our F150 caught on fire around 5 am Sunday July 30. It had been parked since 10:30 pm. In trying to research this bizaare incident, I discovered their recall which I never received. I have owned the vehicle since 2001. I have not had any prior problems with the vehicle, which is why I found this so bizaare to wake up at 5 am to my wife yelling "your truck is on fire!". luckily, I have never been motivated to clean our garage so we could park inside. However, our home did suffer damage to the siding. Ford is not being aggressive in ensuring this is being handled.

On July 15, 2006 my Ford F-150 truck caught fire and burned to the ground. The vehicle had been parked in the same place for over 24 hours without being started or disturbed. At approximately 5:30 Saturday evening the vehicle caught fire. The fire chief stated that the point of origin was in the area of the speed control switch. I checked Ford's website and entered my VIN number. The truck did have a recall but I never received a recall notice. I have contacted Ford but have received no response from them.

At around 4:45 on Friday afternoon my husband was in the back yard and noticed smoke coming from the end of our house. When he walked around the corner of the house to see what was smoking he saw fire coming from the hood of our 2000 Ford F-150 XL truck. The truck was near the house so he got our daughter out of the house and called 911. The fire department responded in around 10 minutes. When the fire department arrived the truck engine and cab were completely engulfed in flames. When the fire was extinguished, the entire front of the truck was destroyed including the front grill, engine, front tires, cab and interior. The back bed of the truck and the back tires did not appear damaged. My husband had picked my daughter up from school and arrived home at around 3:15. He noticed the fire at around 4:45. Up until the fire, my husband had not had any problem with the truck. At this point I am researching to see if the fire may be related to NHTSA recall campaign number 05V017000 noted on your web-site. I am also trying to find out how to go about reporting it to Ford Motor Company.

A vehicle fire occurred on a 2000 Ford F150 at the home of the owner on March 8, 2006. The fire started in the engine compartment of the truck while it was parked under the carport, with the engine off, and the ignition key removed. The truck had been parked approximately 2 1/2 hours when the fire occurred. When the fire was detected, flames had almost reached the ceiling of the carport. The owner was able to push the truck into the street, where it continued to burn until extinguished by the fire department. The truck was destroyed in the fire. On March 20, 2006, and independent investigator inspected the vehicle and determined that the fire was caused by failure of the speed control deactivation switch. The investigator documented his investigation with photographs. Ford Motor Company (fmc) stated that the vehicle was included in a recall to correct a problem with spontaneous fires erupting in the speed control deactivation switch, but the owner was never notified of a recall. The owner has contacted and provided information and photographs to the fmc speed control deactivation switch recall customer information team, fmc Consumer Affairs, and the local fmc dealership.

Shortly after my recall the switch shorted out, I took my vehicle to velde Ford in vero beach Florida, they claim they replaced the parts required for the recall and my cruise control still wasn't back to being operational (which it was prior to the fire) and charged me $246.78 plus tax to do the repair. They claim it was unrelated.

My F150 VIN number 1ftrx18loyka71643 is involved in safety recall 05S28 regarding the speed sensor. Each month I call dealers but they continue not to have parts to fix this defect. The contact stated on 7-12-05 2000 Ford F150 caught on fire. It was located in front of the contact's house. The fire originated under the hood on the driver's side. The fire department agreed that originated under the hood. Ford told the contact to take vehicle to the dealer. The dealer said the vehicle was so burned that they could not tell what happened. Then the dealer said it did not look like the vehicle was burned enough to determine that the cause was the scds. The contact received a recall letter in August 05. The contact reported having no problems with the car. Prior to this, the caller reported having no problems with the cruise control. He noticed that right signal light fuse kept blowing and he had to replace it often. The police did visit the scene but did not make a report.

Our 2000 Ford 150, VIN [xxx], caught fire after our supervisor parked the vehicle when he was checking on crews, it is due to the cruise control switch. Ford said they sent us two recall letters, but we never received them and they can not prove that they sent them, they sent us computer generated generic forms showing dates that they could have typed in after the fire so they wouldn't have to pay. Anyway we purchased the vehicle in mid-January and they say they sent us our first recall letter in February, they would not have had our information that fast. Anyway, our insurance paid for the repairs less our deductible. I have written to william C Ford, he didn't reply but we received a postcard asking us to call the customer service department which we did, they still denied to pay for the repairs. Now we see that there is a recall of over 3.8 million vehicles including the 2000 Ford 150, we also understand that the ones that have been repaired can catch fire again. We would be grateful for any assistance you can provide in getting them to refund the money we paid for the repairs in full.
