Ford F150 XLT 2006 should have a mandatory safety recall for the fuel control module. This is clearly a design defect and a major safety concern. I was driving down VT116 (a hilly, winding 2 lane country highway with no shoulder) in the rain at about 40mph when my truck started to buck and lose power. There was no place to pull over, so I put my hazards on and tried to limp it to a safe place to pull over. The engine stalled and I lost steering and braking power on a curve. I applied the brakes manually and wrestled the steering wheel (which no longer had any power assist). With major difficulty, I was able to bring the truck to a controlled stop. I was then able to restart the engine, limped along at 15mph, bucking and stalling 3 more times before getting to a safe place to pull over. This is the second time I have had my FCM replaced (prior was 1/5/2013) and the second time I almost crashed my truck because of this defect. The previous time was January 2013 on a mountain road in winter on snow. If I was towing my boat on the interstate and lost all power, I would probably have been killed along with anyone around me. Why is it a design defect? because this electronic component is installed in a weather-exposed area above the spare tire and is not corrosion-proof. In any rust belt state (or a place exposed to salt), the case will corrode, exposing the circuit board to water, causing the unit to fail. Why is it a safety concern? because when the FCM fails, the engine will stall, causing a loss of power to the steering and braking systems. NHTSA should force Ford to do a mandatory recall and redesign this poorly designed part. Even the replacement parts fail after a few years. Considering how many F150's are on the road and how many of them carry or tow heavy loads, I'd say this should be a top priority for both Ford and NHTSA. Recall!

The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-150. While driving 45 mph, the front of the vehicle shook violently, the engine nearly stalled and lost power repeatedly, and the check engine indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle also braked independently. The vehicle was taken to an uncertified mechanic who diagnosed that the engine was having multiple misfires, and did not know how to repair the vehicle. The contact also called a dealer who was extremely rude and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that they would not assist because the claims deadline had been missed. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.

Was driving my 2006 F-150 over a mountain pass in Canada. There was compact snow and ice on the roadway and I was traveling with other vehicles around me at approximately 40 mph. The vehicles ahead of me began to brake, I as well tried to brake only to find my truck had lost power and was no longer running. I had lost power to my brakes and steering. This caused my truck to begin sliding on the snow and ice and I was unable to control my vehicle. The cars around me were slowing and stopping and I could not. I began to fish tail in both directions while trying desperately to control my truck with no brakes or power steering, I eventually did a complete 360 degree spin and somehow managed to get the truck under control with out rolling over and into the ditch or smashing into the other vehicles around me. When I came to a stop my truck was not running and the dash lights were on. I placed the transmission into drive and restarted the truck without issue and continued on without issue. This is the second time this has happened with this truck, the first time I was on a residential street and I was able to just coast to a stop and restarted the truck. This last incident on the mountain pass has confirmed to me that I will not own another Ford as I have researched this problem to find that this is a common issue with Ford trucks. I am certain this has caused major accidents if not deaths and the fact there are no error codes left behind from the events to verify this has happened we may never know. The fact it has happened to me twice and once only a miracle a serious accident didn't occur I am done with the Ford Motor Company.

I was driving on the road when the "engine failsafe warning' light came on. The entire engine shut down. No power at all. Very hard to stop and steer. I nearly got into an accident. Another time I was entering parking lot when it happened. I had the throttle body replaced to fix the problem. But shutting off the engine on a warning while driving is very dangerous. Some internet research indicates this is not a lone occurrence.

Took truck in for routine 100,000 maintenance and tune up. Spark plug stuck in the cylinder head and ended up getting charged $3,500 for the repair. I am reading online of how widespread this problem is and Ford should recall these spark plugs and take care of their customers. I will never purchase another Ford in my lifetime if they don't do something about this.

Vehicle jerked when driving down highway when you reach 45 to 50 mph. I would let off gas and then give it gas again and it would not jerk. Check engine light appeared so I took it to Ford dealership and they run a check. Told me I need another motor. This truck has 154000miles. It has not overheated.

On November 16,2011 I was on my way to see my mother who passed away and while driving it sounded like a bomb went off and I had vehicle towed and it was spark plug issue, then two years later it happened again, I changed on plugs and coil packs at garage, now two years later another 3rd plug breaks into engine, now in need of new engine. Miles are over class action suit but not by many. My truck is worthless for Ford lack of fixing this issue. I do have documents to show. This problem is a repeated issue and end result for them not to recall issue sooner has ended with a none working truck engine.

Truck has ~116000 miles. Engine randomly dies while in motion (15 - 50 mph) and while idling at a stop. No power brakes or steering until engine is restarted. Has occurred driving down the highway and in the city. Mainly occurred going straight (not turning). Immediately restarts. No engine codes or check engine light. Cause unknown. Throttle body replaced without fixing condition. "wrench" symbol on driver display has been on for a while but condition just started.

On 3 occasions my vehicle, over 4 months, has had a complete engine failure. This occurred most recently while I was exiting the interstate.when the engine shuts down so does the dash and brake lights, it also stops power steering and brakes. This time by reacting quickly I was able to put the vehicle in neutral and restart, after turning key to off position first.

Spark plugs on the 5.3 liter engine when replaced break--in return the book said pull engine and pull heads to replace spark plugs. The law suit filled Ford admits to bad decision on spark plugs and will reimburse some of the cost. The cost is very high--the book and Ford's shop said the engine needs to be pulled to pull the heads to replace the spark plugs. There was never any software updates, and now the vehicle requires them. The error in the cluster software recall was suppose to be repaired and I read from the experts all software should have been upgraded with the cluster error. There are 42 P.M. Ford and nhsta knew or knows about on my vehicle and nothing has been done, I am a 100% dav and my vehicle has been broken down. The 2006 harley davidson F-150 that cost so much with it's on board computer system does not work. I have read many complaints about the F-150 engine cutting out, I pulled out to pass on a two lane road and almost got killed when mine cut out so bad. A two cylinder would have done better than that V-8.

Originally factory installed sparkplug blows out of the engine head traveling at approximately 35 mph. This was disclosed after taking vehicle to a Ford dealership for diagnostics as there was a loud noise while engine running and loss of power. Repair cost was $617. Discussion with dealer discloses that this a well know problem by Ford management, a tbs has been issued. Further Ford has denied any responsibility and will not provide any monetary assistance. This is a Ford created design engineering defect that Ford just ignores and let's the customer pay for its mistake. Customer is subject to cost of repair that is far from normal wear and tear, a safety concern of fire in engine compartment from raw fuel blown out of the hole vacated by sparkplug, a reliability issue and a safety concern from sudden loss of power. This problem should be covered by a federal mandated recall since Ford is making this a consumer problem ignoring the fact that it is a engineering, design or manufacturing problem for which it refuses to accept responsibility. In addition the trade in value of this vehicle will be reduced by the Ford dealership that is aware of the problem evan for the customer that did not encounter a sparkplug blowout and at private sale if prospective buyer checks on vehicle via any internet automotive site. Again Ford lets consumer absorb cost of defect it created.

Morning of July 23,2015, I was driving about 25 mpr speed when number three spark plug blow out of the cylanderhead on my F-150 Triton V8. Took it to the local machanic shop walton's. three hours later, walton's had to replace and resleeve number three cylanderhead and replaced electrical sparkplug wire, plus replaced all eight spark plugs. All at a cost of $543. Not only this happened to me but walton's stated that I was the 10th person this week this has happened too. I presented the part to my local Ford dealership where we bought the truck (hall's Ford Motor Company) brand new in 2006 and paid cash to the sum of $30,000. I asked them if they know of this problem with Triton V8's. they stated they did but no know recalls and they too had several repairs come in for the same thing in the pass week. They also stated that the Ford Motor Company was aware of this matter but never let there customers know about this problem yet because there was no recall on file to let them know. This thing where the spark plugs come flying out of an engine can be very hazards, it could cause a crash or even give a person a heart attack because the truck sounds like world war III going off under the hood and it may even start a fire. This matter needs to be taken care of by Ford.

2006 F-150 lost all power function while traveling down the interstate. I lost power steering and brakes. The cause is a corrosive fuel pump control module. After taking with my local Ford dealer I was made aware that this is major safety issue and one that fmc refuses to recognize. This incident could have resulted in a major accident. I was lucky enough to be able to signal to the cars around me that I was having trouble - however I was still almost rear ended twice before being able to pull off to the side of the road.
