The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle shifted into low gear and caused the wheels to seize. The vehicle was taken to hutcheson Ford (308 N outer rd, St james, mo 65559) where it was diagnosed that the frame harness needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 124,949.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the driveshaft was replaced. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist to have the transmission replaced. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 19V075000 (power train) in March of 2019. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,887.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, I was traveling in my 2011 Ford F150 VIN#(xxxx) on the highway. During this time, I was traveling at approximately 65-70mph. About 1 minute after getting onto the highway, I felt a large knock in the transmission, and subsequently the vehicle downshifted from 6th gear into 1st gear, on its own, without warning! this action caused the rear tires to lock up, and the truck temporarily skid out of control, and drop speed to approximately 35-40 mph in the middle lane on the highway. Thankfully, I was able to retain control of the vehicle, and there was not anyone near me, and I was able to avoid a serious crash. Also, thankfully, I was on my way to work, and I luckily did not have my 5-year-old or 2-year-old in the vehicle with me. I immediately pulled to the side of the road, to compose myself, and re-evaluate the situation at hand. After completing a required recall, my truck speedometer and odometer 'zero'd' out while in motion. This occurred multiple times, most recently while on the freeway. When it occurred on the freeway, the back wheels felt like they locked up. I pulled to the side of the road to check for flat tires, as that was my first thought. All tires check out ok. I turned the vehicle off and turned it back on. This caused the speedometer and odometer to return to normal functionality. I returned the vehicle to the dealership as I thought that the new update may not have been successful. The dealership advised that the software update process was successful and could not be redone. I read a couple of internet blogs of where other owners had the same type of issue. If the update caused other faulty parts to be exposed, I understand. However, the vehicle should not lock its tires while in motion, especially at freeway speeds as this is a serious safety issue. The picture that is attached is when the issue first occurred. The same indicators occurred the second time, when I was driving on the freeway.

Truck was recalled for "drivability issue in sudden downshift". had atw inspection and recall fix 3/12/2019. As driving back from dealership the transmission down shifted I returned to the dealer and was told I needed a complete transmission rebuild cost $3000!

The dealer and the manufacturer both stated that the lead frame was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19V075000 (power train). The contact was informed that she would be responsible to pay for the lead frame repairs even though it was related to the recall. The recall indicated the failure of the output speed sensor that caused the transmission to downshift unexpectedly. The failure mileage was 190,000.

After experiencing my F150 doing periodic downshifts to 1st gear while driving on several occasions last fall, I started trying to research the problem. I found that there was a recall to fix a faulty output shaft speed sensor. But only for trucks made in dearborn or Kansas City. Not for mine. Ultimately after deciding to fix this issue I learned that my transmission was now bad as a result of the several downshifts while at highway speeds, most likely...and the damage resulting from going from 6th to 1st gear sudden like. The fix...that just this month has been included in a new recall (#19S07)...would have been paid for if the recall was issued earlier and maybe I would be $7,000 better off today. ( I paid for a new tranny a few months ago. ). I just got off the phone with Ford but got no sympathy or understanding....just a lady who re-recited what my recall letter stated. That if you are part of this recall, take your truck to a Ford dealer after March 4th and they will reprogram the faulty part. But if you have already been victimized..you are out of luck. Seems kind of unfair that they will only step up if you haven't yet had a problem. Economics, for sure. I'm out over $7,000 because of a problem that they admit to. And their representatives who say they are authorized to take care of things, won't so much as give me another person or department to discuss this with. Send a letter, she said... dang right I will. And a copy of my repair bill! thanks a lot, Ford.

The transmission does not register reverse gear. Back up camera does not work consistently R does not light up over the course of two days, the reverse would intermittently register sometimes yes sometimes no, then it stopped registering reverse completely. The back up camera worked intermittently then stopped completely. R does not light up on the gears or on the dashboard screens. Vehicle was stationary, when stopped registering reverse altogether. Im in vero beach visinting so I took it to a local mechanic who told informed me of NHTSA campaign number 12V-190. I proceeded to the local Ford to get the matter resolved but they refused stating that my truck is not up for recall for this matter. I called Ford directly and they also stated that my VIN number did not fall under the recall.
