While backing out of the driveway, the vehicle lost power steering and warning came up on the view screen saying torque angle sensor fault. After pulling vehicle back into the driveway and turning off the key the system operated normally, except there was a lot of slack in the steering and some pulsing when steering at slow speed. I took the vehicle to Firestone to have it checked and was told I would have to have it checked at the dealership. On the way there, it lost power steering again while turning onto a back street. I shut off the vehicle and restarted it. This allowed me to drive it to the dealership. They put it in the shop and I was told that I would have to have the entire power steering unit replaced. The service advisor told me when I picked the vehicle up that it had malfunctioned on him while taking it into the shop.the part was around $1,600. With labor, alignment and taxes, it cost over $2,400 to get the vehicle back. I heard that the 2014 model vehicles had a recall for the same issue, but mine was not covered because it was a 2011 model.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that extra strength was required to turn the steering wheel. In addition, the steering seized a few times, which caused the contact to pull over. Once the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally; however, "power steering assist failure" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact scheduled a diagnostic appointment for May 29, 2019 with five star Ford richland hills (6618 ne loop 820, North richland hills, tx 76180, (817) 500-0096). The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 71,150. The VIN was invalid.

Steering is very erratic. Did not even know I had electric steering. From past experience it felt like I am low on power steering fluid. Went to add fluid and discovered there is no pump or hydraulics. Steering assist is very unreliable and drops out with out notice and impossible to steer with control especially when making turns in either direction. This is not safe.

My eaps (electric assisted power steering) seems to be acting up. The issue doesn't occur all the time but when it does its hard to turn the wheel left or right then turn it back straight when making a turn. I have mechanical background and ran a diagnostic to see if was a sensor but nothing comes up. I also have viewed some online forms and it seems other people have the same issue. I will provide the link for a site that I found others talking about the same issue. I previously owned a 2010 Ford escape and I remember having a power steering recall with that. From my experience in the automotive field I know some vehicles have the same issue as others. No accidents have happened for me but to avoid them I thought I should report this in the event this is a recall. Https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/F-150/2011/steering/steering.shtml

The power steering failed, it is almost impossible to steer. This is a serious safety issue, and could easily result in a deadly accident. I am not finding a recall for this, although it is obvious that Ford has known about it for years. The dealership wants $2295 to repair it.

Steering sticks. When driving and changing lanes or turning on sharp curves, it feels as if the power steering briefly goes out. While trying to change lanes at a gas station this past weekend, steering briefly was stuck causing me to almost hit a neighboring vehicle. It appears carcomplaints.com has 320 complaints about the same issue. I did take it to a Ford dealership after a previous issue several months ago and they confirmed the issue.

The service advancetrac light comes on regularly while trying the steering wheel at low speeds. It used to not be as common, but has gotten worse I. the past 6 months. Today I tried slowing down while making a right turn and the steering G locked up on me mid-turn. Based on the same diagnostics as hundreds of others with this problem, it's indicated that the entire steering rack will need replaced. Ford knows about this problem with not just the 2011 models, but with the 2012 and 2013 models as well.

While driving in a deep curve, it becomes hard to straighten the steering wheel. It is like it loses its power steering for about 1-2 seconds and once you force it straight, the power steering begins working again. It will be fine for a few days and then start acting up again. Sometimes it is a full on stick in one position, other times it is jerky sticking as you are trying to straighten it back up. It has almost cause me to run off the road multiple times; I have had to learn to not panic when it happens and just slow down until I am back in control. The eps needs to be recalled on these before deaths occur. I have three very young children that I won't even drive around due to the fact that it is so dangerous to try to drive on in curves. This has been off and on happening for about 1.5 years now. I am going to try to sell the truck and have been researching getting it fixed and if it was a recall her recently and I find it to be ridiculous that it will cost $2,000 on a truck that is only worth $10,000. It is even more crazy that it is something that has to be paid for when safety is the sole reason to do it. Ford should definitely fix this safety concern and get rid of the eps system.

Was making a left turn getting on they highway when steering got hard, making it hard to turn almost getting in an accident, traction control light came on but went back off. Engine light came on, went back off. This has been going on since February, called local Ford dealership basically was told no recall, no complaints, but they call look at it at our cost. It's gotten worse, since then going around curves or making turns it takes full strength to make the turn. Some times its easy like it should be.brought it to a local mechanic shop to see what they say and after looking at it, they said it needs, to go to dealership they can't do anything with it.this needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt.

While driving the truck on a city street, upon turning into a driveway the power steering stopped working. This caused a real problem trying to correct the turn. Upon investigating this it has come to light that there has been a problem with the electric power assist steering. Not only on this 2011 F150, but various other Ford models and years of manufacture. The dealership and Ford customer service says no recalls have been issued. I believe it is time to issue a recall because this is an expensive repair and Ford should own up to this problem that has been ongoing for years! why should the consumer be put into this dangerous situation and expensive repair? it's time NHTSA to stand up and tell Ford to fix this problem! this vehicle can not be trusted on the road anymore and it sits in the driveway. Now, if the NHTSA wants to pay $2,000 to repair the epas, all will be good. Then the NHTSA can send the receipt to Ford if they ever issue a recall.

While driving the other day my steering got really hard to turn all of a sudden, then it worked normally. It has since happen a couple times usually while making a turn - I am afraid to drive it because if it happens in a turn I might hit someone. I have since read that some vehicles are being recalled - but didn't see mine. This recall should be expanded to cover all electric power steering vehicles.
