Driving kids to school heard a loud pop wasn't sure what it was and one of the kids noticed rear passenger back window shattered. Asked around and it will cost about a 1000 dollars to fix, so it is just taped up for now. Before this happened the rear defrost was working on and off.

Ford knows this is a problem and ongoing and nothing is being done about it. It should be a recall and paid for by Ford not the consumer.

I have had to replace my three piece back window twice within two years. Seems to happen in the winter only, when the vehicle is parked, not driven both times. It happened the first time under regular warranty. Second time under extended. Now what happens when my full warranty is done? I think it should be a recall or find another window supplier.

Went to grocery early morning 2/28/15, temp approx 12 F. Pulling in lot, heard loud bang and noticed right away that rear window glass on passenger side had shattered. Lower left corner appeared to be starting point. Began search for replacement but being Saturday not much luck since it included power slide and tint. Parked until replacement could be installed.
Sunday morning I noticed an orange "rusty water" discoloration about the size of a dime at the point where I suspected the break started. It looks like water has migrated into the glass edging. The temperature was well below freezing that night and when the interior began to warm it may have expanded while thawing which caused overpressure on the glass. Monday I called Ricart Ford, Columbus Ohio, where I purchased the vehicle. The first person I talked to in service said this was the second call she had received recently about rear glass shattering on F150 and said she thought it was strange to get two calls for same issue so close together. Second person I talked to in service dept, Adam, checked for recalls and found none and also informed me that even though I purchased the premium warranty coverage the glass was not covered. He checked availability of replacement glass and told me it was $1400.00 plus labor and recommended I look for aftermarket, possibly Safelite. I called A1 Auto Glass in Portsmouth Ohio, gave them the VIN and within 5 minutes was able to schedule an appointment to have a direct replacement installed for $460.00.
Ford should get on top of this before someone is injured. Too many complaints already for this not to be a flaw. A recall should be issued or at least offer to replace the window at a Ford dealer for a reasonable cost, not $1400 plus labor!

It dropped below zero last night. Let the truck run for awhile, didn't notice anything until I picked the kids from school and was making sure they had seat belts on. Passenger back window ,just like the other pics on this website, shattered.

WENT FOR LUNCH TODAY, DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW SHATTERED, WITHOUT ANYTHING TOUCHING IT. HEARD A NOISE LIKE A GUNSHOT AND LOOKED IN THE MIRROR AND ACTUALLY SAW IT SHATTER. POINT WHERE IT STARTED IS IN THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER. TEMP OUTSIDE WAS 0 DEGREE CEL. THIS IS BULL SH*T, POWER AND HEATED.

Parked the truck and it sounded like a gun went off.......Nope, just the back window disintegrating into a million pieces!!!!!

Window spontaneously broke during a remote start and defrost was set to on.
Dealer stated even if brand new they would not cover it.
Totally unacceptable, I replaced it myself and will continue to rant on every site until FORD does the right thing and steps up to help the customers on their DEFECTIVE REAR POWER SLIDERS.
Watch my attached video to see how you can replace it if the FORD dealer will not help you out with it.

We were driving down the road together and my son was in the back seat. Going down a main highway at about 40 miles an hour, it sounded like someone had shot the truck! Boom! I pulled over as we all were scared wondering what happened. We looked over the truck and made sure each of us was not hit, we noticed the back right rear glass was shattered from the inside. It had busted so hard, pieces were falling out. I called the dealer where I bought the truck and the Service Manager told me that there is nothing he can do and it is not covered nor is there a recall. I was highly upset, as I still am. The part is $667.00 from the Ford Dealership and you can't just buy that one piece. You have to buy the entire window. Being that this truck was bought brand new, and I keep it spotless, I know this was nothing that I caused. Hoping that Ford will recall this so I can get my money back!

Live in Western Washington, it's been pretty rainy here. My truck has been parked under cover for over a week now. Went out to work this morning at 5 AM, clicked the FOB to unlock the vehicle and I heard what I thought was somebody rustling in the bushes - however there are no bushes or trees nearby. I believe now the sound was the window cracking/shattering. I entered the vehicle, shut the door, and the rear window went crashing into the bed of my truck, some glass fell inside the rear cab too. It looked like there was compression or something from the inside of the cab and it just blew out. The window does not have defrost or a slider. Not all of the window came out - it was an oval shape, closer to the edges on the drivers side that came out, much more window left in place on the passenger side. Weird. The window has not been hit, bumped, tampered with, etc. Ford just has a problem with their rear windows in F150's. I bet there are many more than 4 people with this problem, just hasn't been reported.

Just bought the truck 1 month ago, driving about 15 minutes, rear defroster would not turn on then loud bang and window shattered. Just like that.... Called dealership right away, said I have to bring it in so they can take photo's and send them to Ford to see if Ford will cover it under the warranty ..absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!

I have a 2011 f150 crew cab FX4 and Saturday I closed the rear door and the rear windows explodes in pieces!!! I have a full window with defrost!! The temperature was under 10 Celsius, its not the heat!! Heavy rain all the day in my news truck..... Monday ( yesterday) I take it to my dealer here in tracadie-sheila New Brunswick and the service manager takes some pictures and after that he said to me that is not covered under warranty!! I have to pay 480$ to replace windows that will probably break again because I think the truck is too air tight, maybe a cab vents problem..... Very frustrating when you drive in a brand new truck with the back glass broken in the rain......

The window shattered but did not fall out. Went to the dealer to explain the problem and they are insisting that something struck the window causing the glass to break when the defroster was turned on. This is a heat element in the glass. Funny that the connection to the element is right at the area they said "something struck the glass". this truck has a power rear window and i think they are avoiding repairing a rather expensive item. I could understand if a stone or piece of debris hit the windshield but this is ther rear window. It was a 12 degree morning and i think the heat element malfunctioned causing the glass to shatter. This should not happen, and my response was how do i know there wasn't a defect in the glass or it was stressed when installed at the factory. What happened to CUSTOMER SATISFACTION? If this is a preview of what is yet to come being a new ford owner then i will GO BACK TO A DODGE.

I have owned Ford trucks for over 30 years and have never encountered this problem before last week. I went out to my 2011 F150, that was parked in my private driveway, to go to town. I opened that driver's door, turned the truck on and closed my door. As soon as I closed the door the rear window shattered into a million pieces and fell out. The window was not cracked, chipped, etc... I was so stunned that I didn't think to video or take a picture.
I called my local dealership and spoke to the service manager, Sam Galloway Ford, who was absolutely no help. I then went online and found your site and that is when I found out that I am not the only one that has had this problem. I feel Ford Motor Company needs to address this issue so that they can keep their loyal customers. I have gone on Ford Motor Company's site and submitted a complaint, I hope to hear from them and that they offer answers and hopefully reimbursement for the cost of the replacement window $391.04.
