  • 4,000 miles
As I went to pass slow moving vehicles in a brand new F-150 ecoboost with 4,000 miles on it completely lost power twice within 30 minutes and shut down for about 20 seconds. Once I was slowed to about 15 mph on a busy street it went back to normal and the accelerator starting working again.

Traveling at 60 + / - mph and attempted to pass another vehicle under normal conditions. Engine lost power on acceleration and seemed to sputter. This is strange as the gas was not "punched" or anything outside of normal passing acceleration. Initially I thought I may be out of gas or something but this was not the case. I have noted power loss two other times but did not think anything of it as the engine returned to normal once I backed off the gas. The one difference this time is the engine made a very rough vibration which caused others in the truck to ask if I was having engine trouble.

Upon entering the entrance ramp to a highway the engine experienced a complete loss of power around 35 mph. All attempts to increase acceleration were futile and the engine went into "limp mode" and would not respond to any input. After 30 seconds of unsuccessfully attempting to accelerate I turned on my hazard signal and began to move toward the shoulder to avoid causing a dangerous situation. The vehicle then suddenly began to respond and accelerated normally back onto the highway.

While driving down the highway, vehicle will go into "limp" mode. Power reduces on vehicle and will not allow to maintain highway speeds. This has happened many times during a trip especially in humid and cold conditions. The scariest situation has been while towing a trailer. Truck went into the reduced power limp mode and was almost run into by a semi truck. I have had the truck into the dealership several times with attempts to repair. They have replaced a few engine sensors that they claim were causing issues, but the truck still had issue during colder weather.

While driving at highway speeds and attempting to pass a slower car, the truck lost 50% of its power. It began to miss fire, and act like it had bad gas or something. I also started to notice that if you turn a corner on wet pavement and you lose traction, the truck made the same gurgling sound with power loss. This has happened several times. I have also noticed that I get very bad gas mileage averaging 12 mpg on the highway. I took the truck in and they reprogrammed it. I think all this did was cut back the power to help prevent detonation or miss fires. After this the truck was a complete dog. Bad mileage and no power. I recently sent the truck back and they replaced some parts with the intercooler. It isn't 100% fixed but it is better. Mileage picked up to 15 mpg but nowhere near what they claim. Power is better but still not good. Very disappointed overall.

Incident 1. weather: Cloudy with some snow around 20 degrees.when accelerating on to interstate 70 in E. Illinois the engine stumbled and loss power. The on ramp had an uphill grade and when the vehicle hit 35-40 mph, it lost all power and sounded like it was struggling to get fuel. I was able to pull to the side of the road, put it in park. I tried to rev the engine in park but it would just stumble. I turned the engine off and waited a few minutes then restarted it and it and it seemed to work as expected. This has happened 3 times since March 4th with the last time being on May 9th. Incident 2. weather: Partly cloudy in the 30's., March 7th, same conditions as above engine stumbled and loss power accelerating on to interstate 376 in w. pa incident 3. weather: Nighttime, in the 60's. going around 30 mph flat road, speed changed to 55 mph tried to accelerate to the posted speed and again the engine stumbled and loss power. This time the dashboard lit up with a bunch of codes (didn't write them down) again turning the engine off and waiting a few minutes seemed to clear the condition. *note* due to a heavy work schedule and needing my vehicle I have not had a chance to get my vehicle into the dealer to have them look at it yet.

Loss of power while driving, ... this has happened several times and the dealership (joe machens Ford) denies any problem with truck. This has also happened to my son [xxx]2012 F-150 and he has been told there's nothing wrong also. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

After driving all day in the rain, I went up a freeway on-ramp accelerating to merge with traffic. Engine started shaking badly, and lost almost all power. I moved to the right safety lane to get out of traffic. After about one minute the engine regained power, stopped shaking, and I was able to continue normally. I went online and discovered that many F150 ecoboost owners have the same problem but Ford refuses to acknowledge the issue, and does not offer a recall or standard fix. So I just avoid hard acceleration on rainy days and have not had the issue again. It is a dangerous problem though.

My wife and I were coming home going about 55 mph and I went to pass a slower car. As I pulled on the passing lane and went to pass the engine start to cut out the more I pushed on the accelator the slower the truck went. It has done this two more time. I'm fixing to take to Ford in a few weeks. This could be a safety problem the truck has the 3.5 eco engine.

Straightening our vehicle in parking place at home depot. Slowly (~2mph) going forward with foot on brake when engine suddenly speed up. Mashed down hard on brake while shifting into neutral. Tires or clutch screaming so loud it drew a group of yardmen unloading a truck nearby. Shortly after getting it shifted into neutral engine resumed normal operation. Took to Ford dealer immediately and will be evaluated after the holiday. Several times in the week prior to incident I noticed some slight "stuttering" of the vehicle when slowly moving forward to park in driveway, also noticed for the past 1 to 1.5 months there has been a 2+ mile per gallon decrease in fuel mileage running over the same routes.

I was merging into traffic on I-10 in Florida from an entrance ramp. I was going 55 mph when I had to accelerate in order to merge with traffic. Upon attempting to accelerate, the engine lost power and began to shake causing me to have to brake really hard and move to the shoulder of the road so that I wouldn't collide with traffic already moving at 70 mph in the lane I was attempting to merge. This is the first of several incidences in which the vehicle lost power under acceleration.

Driving in raining conditions, when accelerating I would loose power when the turbo chargers kicked in. It was as if the turbo chargers were picking up the moisture causing the engine to misfire and would loose all power for acceleration. Even after the rain stopped, this acceleration problem stayed with the vehicle for the remainder of the trip. The next morning, still had same problem but as the temperature went up and humidity decreased the problem got less severe and by the end of the second day the acceleration had returned to normal. The first occurrence was when I was passing a semi trailer, I tried to pull out around in passing zone on a single lane in each direction, when the engine didn't respond I had to break and fall back being the semi. Luckily, this occurred as I pulled out to pass the semi, if it had happened after I along side of the semi, there would have been no way to accelerate to pass the semi or return to my side of the road before the oncoming traffic arrived. I have heard of other individuals experiencing the same during raining conditions and don't understand why Ford has not issued a fix for this problem.

My wife and I were driving in Maine on vacation hauling a 3600 lb 14 foot camper. It was early evening and raining, I was in a flat area coming into a steep hill so I accelerated hard and the engine staggered hard. It was like a hammering for several seconds and a total loss of acceleration. I thought I had actually broken the engine some how. A few seconds later the hammering stopped and the truck returned to normal. When I talked to my Ford tech about it he said it was bad gas. The engine since then has had a ticking sound that the tech says is the fuel injectors working, I'm not so sure since it did not make that sound before the above described incident. It has not recurred, but I have been careful not to expose the vehicle to hard acceleration again, but that hardly seems to be an appropriate solution.

Truck has 3.5L ecoboost V6 engine. 18 May 2013. Was traveling on two lane highway in central Georgia. Pulling a 3000 lb utility trailer. Had been driving in light rain for about one hour. Speed limit was 55. I was following a car that was going about 45 mph. When I got to a slight uphill grade there was a passing lane available and clear of other vehicles. I pulled to the left lane to pass the slower vehicle in front of me. I pressed the accelerator about 3/4 down to attempt a downshift of gears. The truck immediately began vibrating/shuddering and lost almost all power. I pulled back to the right lane and held light pressure on the accelerator and was able to maintain about 20 mph speed. I held the throttle steady and after about two minutes the engine regained full power and I proceeded on my trip.
