On 08/29/16, I was driving through a school zone in my 2013 Ford F-150 3.5L Ecoboost with just 42,000 miles. I am the original owner of this truck. I went to accelerate after exiting the school zone and my truck shuddered and would not accelerate. The engine went to an idle and would not provide any power to continue driving. I had to come to a complete stop in the traffic lane and activate my hazard lights. I had several vehicles coming up behind me that were also accelerating out of the school zone, obviously a dangerous situation. I waited about 15 seconds with no change so I shut off the engine and restarted. This appeared to reset the engine systems and I was able to continue driving home less than a mile away. I had no repeat of this problem until the next day.
On 08/30/16, I was driving up a residential street with only a moderate uphill grade. I felt the transmission downshift and the turbo kick in slightly when the engine immediately shuddered and again dropped to an idle speed. For the second time, I could not accelerate and had to come to a complete stop and activate my hazard lights. I was again stuck in the middle of an active traffic lane and unable to drive my truck. I had to again turn off the engine and it appeared to reset. I immediately drove the vehicle to the dealership for service.
On 08/31/16, I was contacted by the dealership service department and told that they were unable to replicate the problem or pull up any error codes to show what had occurred. I was told there was some communication between the dealership and Ford about this issue. Ford was allegedly familiar with this type of complaint and it was suggested that the Throttle Body be replaced. I was told this repair should take between 24 to 48 hours to complete before my truck would be returned to me. But, I was also given the impression that this might not be a guaranteed fix for what was happening with my truck. They appeared to be trouble-shooting at this point.
I see on this website that I am not the only person to post about this particular issue/complaint. I will update my post to confirm if this fix actually addressed my specific problem.
Update from Sep 7, 2016: The Ford Dealer swapped out the electronic throttle body and that appears to have fixed the problem for now. Only issue is the truck is still under the powertrain warranty but the electronic throttle body isn't covered. Parts and labor cost of $284. Glad I had purchased the 7-year 125k mile extended service plan. Was stuck paying a $100 deductible.
Update from May 5, 2018: Update: Now have 61K at 4.5 years of original ownership. No more problems to date since replacing the Electronic Throttle Body.
Update from Feb 4, 2019: 69,500 miles and the replacement Electronic Throttle Body went out. Got about 25k miles out of the last replacement and had to get ford to install a third throttle body. What a piece of junk this $42k truck has been. 5 major mechanical problems in 5 years. Made a promise to myself that if the truck had any more mechanical issues then I was done with this truck and with Fords from now on. Bye Bye!

It has gone into Limp mode 4 times, yellow wench lights up on dash and there is no throttle. Engine runs rough, till it shuts off and restart and all is good. Went to pass a truck and got about half way around and No Power, wench light up. Coast back in behind truck any then it starts to come out of it. A mile later the light went out and ran good again. It does have the power now and is down shifting more and mileage has gone down.

Bought vehicle new from the dealer. Thought I was doing myself a favor buying a new one so that I wouldn't have problems. Wrong. When it's idling you will suddenly lose power and the engine will shutter. You can give it gas to keep it alive. So the first thought is spark plugs so it's in the shop to see if that is the problem. I rather doubt it from reading everyone else's posts and describing the same problems. Its a shame that a new vehicle Im paying a note on is less reliable than my old paid for Tahoe. Ford really built a lemon with these eco boosts.

I bought my truck new from the dealer 2013. I’m consistent with all the up keeps of my truck. However, mid August 2016, I noticed the truck hesitated to start at the beginning for a few days, then out of nowhere from one day to the next, the truck didn’t start and then the engine light came up! I bought a new battery thinking that maybe it needed to be replaced but it still failed to start.
After that, I tried to start my truck for two consecutive days, by the third day the truck started! I drove it immediately to AutoZone but nothing came up wrong with it? So, I drove it back home. A week later, I had no problems with the truck, like nothing ever happen. Then, yesterday all of a sudden while I was driving home, the engine died in the middle of traffic, so I pulled over to the side of the road and immediately attempted to restart the truck as it continued to hesitated. Finally, after 10 minutes of dealing with the truck it started and I drove it to AutoZone and again nothing came up wrong with it, so I drove it straight home.
Then, today which is September 1, 2016 the truck failed to start and the engine light came up again. Something is wrong with this truck! I don’t feel safe to drive in fear that I will get stranded anywhere at anytime. Meanwhile, I still have to pay my auto payment for this unreliable truck!

Tried to pass a slow moving car on a two lane highway. Accelerated and started to pass the car when the engine started to die and the engine light came on. I was able to get on the right side before any damage occurred. Really scary. I took it to the FORD dealer and they said it needed to be reprogramed. It didn't work.

The truck has done this repeatedly. Hit the gas to go and it shudders, wants die then all at once goes. It started at 10,000 miles and been in shop 4 times. Once they tried to say bad gas, but had the gas company certify gas. Each time I take it they plug it in the computer and tell me nothing is wrong with the truck. I have lost work (self employed) due to waiting. I have the extended warranty but so far it has done no good. No repairs done after the hassle I have gone through. One day I'll end up rear ending someone due to it just all of a sudden getting power. The advance track light came on for no reason and the dealer asked if the truck got wet. Didn't know trucks can't get wet. It will go to another dealer tomorrow again.....

Truck is still down--Ford says it will be down two more weeks. Parts on backorder and two vehicles in lot awaiting same part. Truck is at Galpin Ford in Dewey, AZ--40 miles from home. Only vehicle I own--have no transportation. I contacted Ford Customer Service in Michigan and boy-what a run round--LIES! Also lies at Galpin.

May 18 th I had a check engine light that came on truck ran fine so took truck in to dealer and they said it was coming from a sensor and they also suggested that I get the spark plugs changed because is was almost due. So the dealer changed the spark plugs , changed oil, and replaced the faulty sensor. I picked up the truck and drove home. The next day I was driving and a wrench light appeared on the dash and truck dropped down to an idol and had no power for forward mobility, but everything else was functioning normally as I rolled and stopped the truck the idol got erratic and the engine and truck was shaking like it was trying to die. I shut off the ignition and waited for a few seconds truck restarted and seemed to drive fairly normal. Called the dealer and to tell them the problem and that I was coming back. As I was going back to the dealer it did the same thing 2 more times during the 10 mile drive. The dealer said that they just needed to reset I believe the computer because the truck got use to the old worn plugs and now I have a hotter spark and the computer was not relearning this on its own. So they reset and said I was good to go. About 5 miles down the road I went to turn onto the road with on coming traffic and as I made the turn the wrench light popped on and no power other than and idle almost got rear ended. Shut truck off and re started took longer to start , but seemed ok so started driving to my appointment that I was running behind to turning at a stop light wrench comes on and again no power other than an idol. Shut off again restarted and seemed to drive normal. Pulled over and called the dealer and told them I would be back in an hour. On my way back to the dealer the truck did the same thing to more times and almost got hit again which is very dangerous. Took to the dealer and they were going to see if it was the same code as before which showed misfire on cylinder #3 and they were going to replace the spark plug for the 3rd cylinder , but it did another code which now they are saying it needs a new throttle body. It sound like they are just guessing at this point which is costing me my $100.00 deductible each time. They ordered the part and told me to bring back in the morning when the part gets here because I needed the truck for other appointments for the night. After reading all the problems on this site and other I am very disappointed I purchased this truck for 50K you should be able to get something that runs better than this with only 60,000 miles. And most importantly this truck is super dangerous because it function like normal than out of no where it just stops without any warning. I sure hope somebody will force ford to stop selling these things until they can fix there issues because I almost got hit 2 today alone which is a bunch of crap.

While driving the vehicle the engine light comes on and i loose total power. The speedometer goes to zero. The engine still runs but does not me or comes to a coast. I shut the vehicle off wait a few minutes and some times it goes back to normal. I fear this will happen on the highway and cause an accident.I have had it into the dealer ship once and they pulled the code loss of power but could not recreate the problem. It has happened six times
since then, luckily not on the highway. The bad thing is when you take it in you do not get a loaner vehicle for the
time they have it.

When come to stop then try to take off quickly there is hesitation in the engine/ acceleration. Meaning that when accelerating the truck starts to move after a short time not immedialty. At times I don't know if the truck is going to actually go. The dealer has told me that I just need to get used to a throttle without a cable and that it is normal.I drive a lot of different rental cars and have never noticed this in any of the rental cars. I am certain that Ford is aware of this just does not want to fix.

This is the 2nd time I have lost all power in the motor and the check engine light came on. The first time was not that bad, I was moving over it was like the truck shut down. So I call the Ford dealer and they told me to bring it in and the said they removed a screen in the turbo. That was over a year ago with only 12000 miles. Now again it has happened. This time was f*cked up. I had my 30 ft trail trailer and let me tell you it was like someone put the brakes on. I was going over a small overpass not big at all and the truck shut down. Well this time I tried to get the truck in the shop for 3 weeks or more and they would call me and tell me they could not get it in. Well the truck ran fine but at a idle it would shake a little only when cold. So it is in the shop now they are telling me that it was coil 2 and 3 both are bad. How does 2 coil bad on a v6 still run and pull a 30 foot travel trailer? I think they are full of sh*t. I do have brake problems as well, read that post.

At highway speeds under acceleration the truck misfired and fell on its face. I had to make my way to the emergency Lane stop the truck turn it off and restart it the get it to begin running correctly again. Not to mentioned it happened during rush hour while I was merging into traffic.
There is an obvious problem with the Ecoboost motor but I had to pay $684 to have what Ford says is the fix for this problem!

Trying to pass someone, the engine starts to lose power and check engine light comes on once it done with its problem it turns off. But I have to slam on brakes and get back inline before on coming traffic. I have reported to Ford but since the check engine light turns off once its done the say that there is nothing wrong with my truck. Not Happy with Ford.

My truck skips between 30 and 80 and gets worse when under a load. Ford has figured it out that it is a programming issue but the dumbasses also said they do not know how to fix it and they cant do anything about it because the skipping does not register on the computer. Ford does not stand behind their product. If I had it to do over, I would definitely go with another brand!! The dealership told me to try to make enough noise to be heard so here I am with just the beginning. I am putting out the word that the ford f150 with the V8 SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! If you are going to buy one of these things you better buy two of them so you will have one that can be driven while the other is in the shop!! Buyer beware

This problem is very intermittent as it only occurs when traveling at highway speeds in rainy or humid conditions. The engine "stalls and stumbles" whenever accelerating to pass. Following the stumbling the engine, the check engine light illuminates and no power is available for a short period (a few of minutes) until the light goes out and power resumes.
This has happened to me on three separate occasions to date. When it first happened, I took the vehicle to the dealership immediately. This was a dealer I found while on a trip and they advised the cause was the incorrect "air dam" being installed on the turbo air cooler. . They did not have the part and informed me that driving the vehicle would not be a problem and suggested I take it for repairs when more convenient.
When I later took the vehicle to a dealer in my local work area, I was informed that I would need to leave the truck with them for a few days while they diagnosed the problem and made the repairs. Though I informed them of the indicated problem, they insisted I would need to leave the vehicle with them. As I work 350 miles from my home this was not convenient so I have continued to drive the vehicle.
Approximately ten days ago, I was returning home and driving under rainy conditions. I again experienced the stumbling/stuttering when accelerating to pass other vehicles.

If Ford knows about this problem then they need to recall and fix it

While trying to pass slower vehicles on the freeway my F150 engine lost power and the truck started to shake. This situation almost caused a serious accident as traffic behind me had to rapidly slow down to allow me time to pass the slower vehicles and get out of the way.
This issue also occurred while trying to rapidly accelerate from a slow speed of 20 mph. While trying to avoid a possible collision my F150 EcoBoost engine lost all power and the engine light started blinking. I had to pull over to the side of the road and wait for the engine light to go off. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be fixed. This is a recurring issue with the EcoBoost engine.
Update from Dec 1, 2016: The Ford dealer fixed the problem under warranty. They had to replace one of the injectors.

I have a Ford truck, a 2013. I purchased the truck in Aug, 2014 with only 600 km on her. I have had no problems with this truck with the exception of yesterday morning. Occasionally when I would do the auto start on her to warm her up I would hear some start noises coming from the engine but really thought nothing of it thinking she was cold and just needed to get that oil warm.
Well, yesterday I used the auto start before work to warm up the truck. I was on my way to work. When I got outside, I did notice that the truck was not running. And I thought that was odd because usually for the most part, the auto start has been working great. So I climbed into the truck, went to start her and she proceeded to start, rattled and then quit. So at this point I am quite alarmed for I have never had this problem before. I tried her one more time. The low oil light came on, and then she died. At this point I am quite upset. I had the oil just changed a month ago at the dealership. I then called the dealership and let them know what happened. I also called the Road Side assistance to set up a tow to the dealership where I purchased my truck. And waited. Found a ride to work (was 1 hr late) and waited to find out what happened to the truck.
About six hours later I received a phone call stating that the engine timing belt had stretched, causing the timing to go out of sync in the engine. I was going to need all sorts of gaskets replaced. The one that was mentioned that scared me the most was the cam gasket. For everyone knows the cam is the heart of engine. I was told that the cost for this repair is going to be thousands of dollars. I am so grateful that this repair is covered under the initial 3 year warranty. The dealership is going to need a few days with the truck to fix her for they did not have all the parts.
I am most upset for my truck only has 38000 km on her. I am quite wary of this truck now. I asked the Service Rep why this would happen on a truck with such low km's on her and he proceeded to say "faulty part" I am not happy about this answer and who knows if I am getting another "faulty" part once again.
I will check back when I've received my truck back from the dealership.
