Focus 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. In July of 2007, the door locks on the vehicle began to malfunction. The contact changed the fuse, but this did not correct the failure. The tail and brake lights also began to malfunction, followed by the rear hatch. The dealer advised him not to drive the vehicle because a fire had taken place in the wiring. The contact is currently awaiting the vehicle diagnosis. The current mileage was 42,338 and failure mileage was 42,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the power door locks stopped working. The contact noticed that the fuse for the power door lock had failed. He replaced the fuse, but the passenger front door failed to unlock. He did not experience any failures with the other doors. A dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of the failure. The current mileage is 78,500 and the failure mileage was unknown.

I drove a 2000 Focus ZX3 for 3 years without a single problem. On March 2007 (90000 miles) the car stalled and died completely in the middle of a California freeway. After 5 min I was able to restart the car and drive to my mechanic (not a Ford dealer). Computer analysis showed a faulty mass air flow sensor. He replaced it ($450). Two days later, the car stalled again in a residential area (20 mph and full tank of gas). The car restarted and I drove back to same mechanic. He didn't find anything wrong and suggested I should drive to a Ford dealer. They replaced the fuel delivery module at no cost because of Ford recall #03N01. After that the car stalled (and died) again while pulling out of a parking lot (5 mph and full tank). Ford technicians drove the car for 150 miles while hooked up to a "flight recorder" and found nothing. I drove it for 20mi with a "flight recorder" and it stalled right away. I tried restarting it and it stalled again (4 times in a row). I was able to record the data using flight recorder. For the first time the check engine light was on (code P1237). The Ford dealer inspection all the electrical wires looking for a faulty connection ground. After re-wiring they test-drove the car again. They think the car is ok now. This has been my third week without a car. I was renting a car in order to go to work (paying to go to work). I can't afford to spend more money on more surprises. I have been stressed emotionally and financially. Even if the car is ok now, I don't feel safe driving it (or any other Ford). At this point I decided to sell the Focus to the same Ford dealer. I'm complaining about the Ford Focus and Ford in general (as a corporation and a brand) for allowing such a flaw to be sold to the general public. I have been very well treated by the service department at the Ford dealer.

In 2004 vehicle's ignition key lock fails to work properly. Vehicle is towed to Ford authorized repair and they correct the problem. In 2006 vehicle's ignition key lock fails again. Vehicle is taken to Ford authorized repair and corrected again. Both times I was left stranded since the vehicle's ignition key would not turn to start the vehicle and could not be removed from the ignition. Vehicle's dash lights suddenly failed while driving at night. Lights come on and off. Several times during nightime driving the lights fail. Vehicle's door power door locks and trunk locks fail and cannot be opened with keyless entry. A fuse continues to fail possibly due to a short in the wiring system.

I purchased a car from mega motors on 10/3/06. On 10/04/6 the car cut off on me in the middle of the expressway. I took the car to the shop and a computer diagnostic test proved that the sensors are out on the car and that the transmission is out of range. I took the car back to mega motors on 10/05/06 and I also provided them with a copy of the diagnostic report. The company isn't doing anything to help me, all they are telling me is that they can't fix the car but I can come pick it up. I didn't have the car two days before it messed up on me in the middle of traffic. Ruiz auto shop said that the car is no good. I tried calling mega motors again but they just keep me on hold for a really long time. As a paying customer I feel like I was in danger for my life and I can't get the company to provide me with another car nor give me my money back, after two days of having the car. I contacted the BBB and found that this company has had nine complaints since 2003.

2000 Ford Focus zts, started to smoke from the fuse box, within 3 minutes the engine compartment was on fire and car was totally in flames. No warning signs, nothing odd about how the car ran. Just riding along and smoke starts and I pulled over asap and the car went into flames. Nothing was done to correct what ever problem it was...the car is destroyed. No one knows what caused the failure. When the car started to smoke, the smoke came from the fuse box on the drivers side. The smell of burnt plastic was smelled and as I stated before the car was in flames. I had just enough time to get out of the car and away from it.

Early on I had issues with stalling but just thought it to be weird for the car would turn back on..would power down while driving then I could start it over again. Wasn't until recently it became an issue that worried me when I was on a trip and it did it 3 times in a row and it wouldn't start on the second time but then did on the third try. I had been pulling out into heavy traffic when car just died.. everything went dead. Tonight my engine light came on and I started searching the net looking for reasons why when I came across the stalling issues with the Ford Focus 2000. I have also encountered multiple problems with the car over the years and until recently have stayed under 50,000 miles. I also had the locking of the ignition which was replaced by the dealing but last time I took the car in for the rear bearings they told me my car was not one of the 21 states it had issues with. I see they have now included that to go into all 50 states. At this point I am really scared to drive this car anymore and was just getting ready to do an out of state drive which I am putting on hold. I've had other issues that are nothing compared to the car stalling out in traffic.. it just stops.. steering freezes brakes lock.. its a mess and a danger to my child's life and mine. The latest problem of stalling plus the gas pressure seems to be an issue.. I press on the gas and it seems to sputter as if the car wasn't getting enough gas and almost dies.. I thought maybe my clutch was going out but that doesn't seem to be the case. It has not been a cause of an accident thank goodness but have come very close. This is a danger to other drivers and to myself.

I took my vehicle to the local Ford dealer on March 2, 2006 after I was having trouble with it stalling and then it was hard to restart. They replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Then on May 19, I took the car in again to have a recall on the locks fixed and to assess the check engine light being on. I was told that their was an evap leak at the gas cap and one would be ordered for me. During this wait I experienced a strong gas smell surrounding the vehicle and coming up through the vents. Then on June 4 (the cap still not replaced), I was getting poor gas mileage. As I was backing out of a driveway I noticed a string of gas. As I was driving down the road I was losing gas. I went from half a gallon to E in less that 8 min. Until I arrived at my destination and the car died. I put it in neutral and rolled to safety. Then I had to have it towed to my local Ford dealer who is currently assessing the situation....please help!!! previous problems includes, but it is not limited to the following problems (cuts out, dies, hesitates{coil pack replaced}, the key not fitting into the ignition {jammed the key in & WD40}.

Our Ford Focus has been nothing but problem since we bought the thing. The wiring was shot about 4 months in, and we could no longer use the electronic locks, or trunk opener. However, the latest problem would be the ignition. I was getting gas when I went to put the key in the ignition and it was stuck. Luckily, after a brief panick attack I managed to get it to start. Today, unfortunately we weren't so lucky, and the steering wheel, brake pedal and ignition are all frozen and are unable to start the car. I now have no vehicle for work tomorrow morning, and am furious with this unreliable vehicle. Someone must do something about this!

There is a leak in the resevoir for the radiator, electrical problem with the radio. The radio keeps losing power when going down the road. The master switch for the passenger window does not work, the rear passenger window assembly is broke leaving the window not able to stay up. There is a funny noise when driving down the road. It sounds like a crackly noise. Half of the time the heat will not work.

The contact stated there was an electrical problem. The dealer said it was a problem with the sensors within the fuel pump. The dealer said they would need to replace the sensors to remedy the problem. Due to the numerous attempted repairs that have not corrected the problem he was not going to have the vehicle repaired at this time. The contact already spent enough money having the vehicle repaired, and should not be out any more money for attempts to repair the vehicle.

Purchased 2000 Ford Focus, VIN [xxx] from croft Ford on Dec. 19, 2001; mileage was 12,163 (car was still under warranty); have been unable to walk since March of 2002 (mileage on car is now just over 13,000; last 200 plus miles has been put on by Ford dealerships attempting to fix car). Have had this car in to several Ford dealerships; none of which can solve problem of engine surges; dash lights sweeping; transmission bolting; etc., etc., etc. This car is not safe to drive; I have notified Ford Motor Company; the dealerships, etc., and feel that it should be covered under "manufacturer warranty".. instead latest was that Ford dealership wanted $500 to replace alternator and could not guaranty that would fix problem; I already paid $105; plus $110 and the same problems are happening. The car has been at the Ford dealership in woodbridge, va, for over 2 weeks, which leaves my family without a car to Transport me. This is not right. I told todd croft of croft Ford that I needed a good, dependable, safe car because this would be the last car I ever purchased. He knew that I did not drive much at all and I feel that he sold the car (with an existing problem) to me thinking that I would never know. My daughter was the one who realized this car had a serious defect and took it to croft Ford to be fixed several months ago; to date, it still is not fixed; is a danger to drive, not only to the person/occupants of the car, but to any vehicles near when the power surges occur and the transmission bolts. While driving my 2000 Ford Focus, I came to a four way stop and the car ceased to work, as if I had turned off the key...no sputtering, just stopped. I restarted the vehicle and it lurched forward, died again, just as before. As I looked out the front windshield, I observed smoke coming from the hood of the car. I exited the car and flames were coming from the wheel wells. I immediately called 911. People began spraying water on the car from garden hoses, two people stopped with fire extinguishers and nothing put out the flames. When the fire department arrived, within 10 minutes, the entire front of the car was destroyed. Pieces in the engine compartment were melting and falling off the engine onto the ground. Police arrived to direct traffic. The car was towed to wendle Ford, and my insurance company removed the vehicle to their premises the next day. I still have no idea what could have caused this problem in a five year old vehicle with no prior problems. As I have seen several other incidents of fire in this vehicle, the government should make Ford Motor Company investigate why this is happening before someone gets killed!
