Apparently this is a common problem. The valve seats are made of a different material than their surroundings and with repeated heating and cooling they can sometimes drop into the engine where the cylinder smashes them up ripping up everything. For me it was cylinder 4, it may happen in other cylinders, I don't know.

Valve seat dropped in #2 cylinder. Shrapnel went through to a few other cylinders poking holes in 2 piston and severly gouging the head in #2 and 3 cylinders. Had all the valve seats replaced, head welded and rebuilt. Shortly there after, #2 dropped out again. Junked the car after that.
