2006 Ford Freestyle. Consumer states unintended acceleration the consumer stated she crashed into a tree. The consumer stated the second time the vehicle accelerated out of control, she began slowing down for a red light and despite her efforts of applying the brake, she hit another vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated the front driver and passengers side cv joints needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 36,935.

The car will surge on it's own at different times: Sitting at a red light ~normal misc idling, while in reverse, while making full turns. It will also sometimes die right after the surge, but not every time. It is worse in the summer during high temps, but will sometimes do it in colder temps as well. It does this when you have your foot on the brake, also when it has been in parked (while idling). At a drive thru window on one occasion, it surged over 5 times and was restarted over 5 different times, all at same drive thru window. (maybe 10 minutes at the window). Additionally the driver front seat, seat warmer has stopped working, the keypad on the driver's car door to open the car doors will not function, several lights inside the dash do not light up and/or very dim, the middle row seat 2/3, the seat on the left side will not fold down.

We are having concern with our Freestyle. On numerous occasions I will be parked, in the school pick-up line, for example. When I release the brake, the car jolts forward without even pressing the accelerator. This can be terrifying, as it always seems to be in a situation where there are a lot of people whom could be injured. This also happens frequently in parking lots. This is a possible throttle malfunction? I am bringing to the mechanic to see if there is something they can do. Because I have noticed there are other complaints regarding this issue, I thought I should state my concern as well. Hopefully if a recall is needed to ensure safety of this vehicle, this will be thoroughly investigated. Thank you.

My 2006 Ford Freestyle started to jerk and when stopped at a stop sign or pulling into traffic would accelerate uncontrollably. I had the throttle switch replaced only a month after I got the car and it began to do the same thing shortly after and the warning said misfire so I had new spark plugs put in. The following summer same problems but this time I had to have new coils put in. I drove the car for a month and while driving in traffic it would completely shut down, almost causing an accident, this happened about four times. It now has completely shut down and will not start at all. I have replaced batteries, taken it to several dealers and all say there is nothing they can do that it is "probably" a computer problem, I have since parked the car as it is unsafe and undrivable. Help!

Purchased a 2006 Ford Freestyle in April 2010 with 45,831 miles on it. The car is used for transportation to and from work, errands, and leisure. Since purchasing the car, we have experienced unexplained surges in the engine resulting in the rpms to increase and a sudden jerking movement while in drive or reverse. The surges have become more frequent occurring on a daily basis during warm weather especially during the summer months. We have been worried about the car lunging into another vehicle while parking/backing out of a parking space or while waiting at a light or stuck in traffic on the highway. On 6-13-11 at 5 pm est, while on our way home from work, the car unexpectedly surged and moved forward into another car while we were waiting at a traffic light. We have researched online to see if any other Freestyle owners have experienced this problem and to our surprise, there have been a lot of complaints regarding this issue but no statements or recalls have been made by Ford. We have not been able to afford to try and have the throttle body fixed to remedy the situation. This is something we were not expecting considering the car only had 45,851 miles on it when we bought it last year.

Have a 2006 Ford Freestyle. Acceleration surges from idle, mostly in reverse but sometimes in drive, have increased in duration over the past few weeks. Last night it surged about 10 feet backing out of a parking place and came very close to hitting a pedestrian. The wrench light came on last night but was off when ignition turned off and restarted. Our Freestyle has problems with surging for over a year. The rpms will go up and the car will try to jump ahead when the brake is on. Other times it will surge while driving and the dashboard may go completely blank. It has been worked on many times, but the problem always comes back. Occurs approx. Every other day (3-4 times per day on the days it does occur)! nothing initiated this reaction in/from car. We own a 2006 Ford Freestyle and have had problems with sudden acceleration at low speeds and idling in general. The car was viewed by jeremy at classic Ford in columbia, SC, and quoted a bit too quickly for me too feel comfortable. When I mentioned an 06 Freestyle, it took no time to diagnose over the phone as a throttle body problem. The repair was quoted in the $850 range. I purchased a throttle body from another 2006 Freestyle from a junkyard and made the repair. Less than 7000 miles later we are seeing the beginning of the problem again. The initial surges/revving occurred few and far between, usually in hot temperatures with the air running. The idle RPM usually sits at about 500 RPM, and when we stop, still in drive, it surges, which causes the car to lunge forward. When it progressed, it was impossible to sit at a stop sign without idling from 500 to 750 RPM every second, back and forth. After I made the repair, the car ran great. But as I said, we are less than 7000 miles out of the repair, and the initial stages are happening again. I can purchase a part from the Ford dealer for $600+, or an aftermarket part for $500+. my hesitation in yet another repair is a faulty part from the manufacturer, or a part that is not oem, but made per their specs by an aftermarket manufacturer that will fail in a similar manner. I believe the best case in this situation will be to take the $4000 hit I will incur due to kelly blue book differences from what the car is actually worth, now that other dealers know what's up.

The car lunges at complete stop and in reverse. We have had several wrecks in drive thrus and stoplights because of this issue. After it lunges the wrench comes on and the car will not go over 40mph. Ford dealer says its the throttle body and are backordered from Ford for months and the cost is over $800. I am very disatisfied with the actions on this from Ford. Evryone knows about it but they seem to not care until someone gets hurt.
