I had a persistent problem with my 2006 Ford Freestyle. Car would launch with foot on brake. Brought to dealer several times. Now at 65K miles, the transmission has a noise (in park and neutral). The transmission shop has quoted $5200 for a new transmission. It does not seem right that a car could not easily reach 100K these days. I am an aerospace engineer and would be embarrassed if my product failed as often as I have read about this car.

2006 Ford Freestyle we change the accelerator body it lurched forward and it was dangerous almost hit a few cars in traffic we were terrified of it would not ride the kids in it and the transmission started making a weird ssssssssssss noise few months ago and now its more of a rrrrrrrrrrr loud sound everybody turns to look when we drive by were gonna take it to the Ford dealer today we will probably pay up the was because you wont do anything about this problem you know exists as always with everything the corporations comefirst they have the money you should be ashamed this is afamily vehicle it has a third row seat kids ride in it still you do nothing.and as your first questions indicate no deaths no crashes not your problem right.national safety what was that again ya right, should be national lets take care of the car manufacturer with deep pockets bearue. This is a defect and you know it the accelerator body and the cvt trans. Thousands of people have the same problem yet you do nothing guess we will have to do a class action we have to do it ourselves as always.

My 2006 Ford Freestyle's accelerator pedal stuck to the floor on 3 different occasions. After shifting to neutral and pulling over, I finally realized that tapping the pedal would release it. The dealer "could not duplicate the problem". shortly after the engine light went on, the "wrench" light came on. When the last light went on, the car would surge forward on its own. I have read numerous accounts of this problem and in those cases, there was no satisfaction. It is very frightening to have no control over the acceleration of your vehicle especially when 5 children are with you.

In July 2010 our 2006 Ford Freestyle started lurching and the wrench light came on indicating a major issue. Dealer advised us to pull over and call a wrecker to tow vehicle. After turning vehicle off and then back on, wrench light did not come back on, so we drove additional 5 miles to home, then to dealer 20 miles next day. Mileage on vehicle 81,000. We were told there was a problem with transmission and that the cost of repair was $600 to $800. Dealer indicated a problem in getting part as there had been a problem with this for some time on the Freestyle. I did not keep old part, but later looked up "Ford Freestyle complaints" and noted there are a number of individuals having same problem, some occurring in dangerous situations. Additionally we have found two local Freestyle owners who have had same issue and same repair done. We put about 30,000 miles a year on our vehicles and keep them for 3 to 4 years. I have never had a transmission problem in this mileage range with any previous vehicle, and feel it should be considered a dangerous issue and placed on recall list.

Brakes were compressed due to sudden stop in car in front of us during traffic. Check engine light came on and car revved to ~4000 RPM and was very unresponsive to compression of gas pedal. This has occurred 3 more times over the past month; each time the car must be turned off and then upon restarting everything seems to be fine again. We have now taken the car to our local Ford dealer and they tell us it is a problem with the cvt and will cost $5200 to replace.

My 2006 Ford Freestyle lunges/surges when going from park to drive or park to reverse. Vehicle has been doing this for at least 1 year.it is very scarey and unsafe for my teenage driver who is just learning to drive. I have also replaced the brakes pads and rotors twice already. The brakes wear out very quickly around 15,000 miles. Last I replaced the transmission at 100,000. I bought a used 2007 transmission to save some money. Now I am being told that my transmission is bad again. It is once again slipping and I have only driven 15,000 since the transmission was replaced with one od only 56,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when shifting into reverse, the engine would exhibit an unusual increase in rpms and abnormally accelerate backward. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the transmission was repaired. The failure persisted and would the vehicle would also abnormally accelerate forward. The manufacturer offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000 and the current mileage is approximately 56,000. 2006 Ford Freestyle transmission problem. My car has 110K miles and I was informed that I need an new transmission. I was driving on the interstate and my car lost power. 2006 Ford Freestyle surging when brake is on. Problem is worse when the ac is running. This is a very dangerous issue. It happens when you do not want to go such as tight parking spaces, school parking lots, drive thru fast food places, etc. The car will also have a big surge and then lose power. Happened to me in a busy intersection. Awesome car but the safety is being compromised and needs to be addressed.

Wrench lite came on show a problem with transmission. The vehicle only had 62,000 miles. Took to Ford dealership was told the transmission needs to be rebuild. Which would cost $5,100. On September 12 the transmission went out. Vehicle with only 62,000 mile should not have transmission problems.

2006 Ford Freestyle. Consumer states problems with cvt transmission the consumer stated the first incident with the vehicle surging/lunging occurred the week of July 19, 2010. She was stopped at a light and the vehicle suddenly surged/lunged, the gauges on the control panel began acting erratic and all of the lights illuminated. The consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic, who was unable to reproduce the problem after having the vehicle for 4 days. The incident happened two more times. The consumer took the vehicle to another mechanic and he found an error code that read transmission control malfunction. The consumer then went to the dealer where she purchased the vehicle and a diagnosis revealed, the vehicle needed a new transmission at a cost of $ $5,600.

My Ford Freestyle SE has begun stalling when I put on the brakes to stop. It has also started lurching forward uncontrollably when stopping as well. During this incident, my foot is on the brake. This is a very dangerous situation because the car is not under my control when it is accelerating. Stalling at a stop sign or red light or when applying the brakes is a huge safety concern for a rear-end collision. This is a serious safety issue.

06 Ford Freestyle with 70K miles it was bought about 4 months ago as is. The problem started about two month ago with the wrench light and check light coming on in the morning. And it is difficult to almost impossible to accelerate. I have to drive it for about 15mins before the lights go out. I had the classic throttle body issue, with the surging in reverse and drive, then the car dying. The car would also go "limp" from time to time, with no acceleration. I had the throttle body replaced, but the very day I got my car back, it continued to go "limp", with the transmission light coming on. It did it once in the middle of a major highway intersection, and another time on a country 2-lane road with a speeding truck behind me. Both times, my life was endangered. Now, Ford says I need a new transmission!!

The contact shut off the vehicle and when restarting, the vehicle resumed as normal for approximately one hour until the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that there was a malfunction within the transmission control. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where she was advised that the transmission would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 41,000.

2006 Ford Freestyle surges and changes speed at both high and low speeds. Last weekend it happened while pulling into the garage. Car about took out the backside of the wall. I have an appointment with Ford service tomorrow to have it looked at. Based on all the other reports filed here about this issue, it sounds like the root cause has not been established nor ownership taken by Ford for this issue.

I have had the transmission in my 2006 Ford Freestyle replaced twice. Now it is surging(lunging). I have researched and found lot of other are doing the same - Ford is calling for the throttle to be replaced but that does not always solve the problem. I believe it is time for an investigation of this problem. So for I have been lucky and not had an accident with this problem.
