With the initial instance (it has happened 3 separate times), I was traveling on the interstate on the way back from Tennessee to Georgia and stepped on the accelerator (basically punched it) to get around a big rig, all of a sudden I get a "tow truck" icon on my dash and the accelerator is unresponsive, so I think I was in electric mode only if that. Fortunately, I was close to an exit and was able to coast to a stop in a parking lot. I put it in park, whereby the shifter dial then locked into park, could not change it. My wife read a blog on the internet (the owners manual is useless) to wait a few minutes and everything should work, that turned out to be true, so we were able to be on our way, but scary as heck to be on the highway and your vehicle suddenly shuts down. My Ford Pass app showed a "High Voltage Battery warning" message and also the MIL (check engine light came on solid and stayed on for at least another day, but eventually went out. This happened 2 other times, the exact same scenario, but this time light to moderate acceleration. I believe my safety was put at risk because the vehicle was rendered useless while traveling at high speeds on the highway. My dealer had it for 2 weeks, and said they read some transmission codes but tell me Ford doesn't know what to do to fix the issue at this point.

I shut off my Maverick to get out and get some water, when I got back in my truck, it had NO power. It was as if the battery was dead. I had it jump started and drove home. In the middle of a intersection, while turning, the truck shut off completely. NO power. When this happens, you have no emergency lights and can not put it in neutral to push it off of a road. If you are on a back road with no lights, you can't turn on the hazards nor push the vehicle off the road out of traffic. It was the wiring harness that went bad. My Maverick is at the dealer right now waiting for the part to come in. This is becoming a common issue for the Truck across the US. The dealer confirmed it was wiring harness. A cop jumped started the truck for me the second time. I had to have somebody follow me home as it kept dying in the middle of the road on the way home. I consider this a safety issue as you have no lights to keep from getting hit by another vehicle and no way to put it in neutral so you can get it out of the road. There were no warning lights or symptoms that it was going to fail, it just stopped working.

Engine surging while idling. The catalytic converter will get red hot. Also a rattling noise that sounds like rocks near the driver side wheel well in side the engine bay. When using the auto brake system at a stop light when cold you can feel the engine surge and feels like the brake is going to let loose.

When idling in the cold, the engine runs rich. Them dumps excessive fuel in the catalytic converter causing it to become red hot, followed by a nauseous smell.

When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. The last time it happened I looked under the hood while it was dark out and what appears to be a catalytic converter on the back side of the motor was glowing red hot. There are high voltage lines that run within inches of this (among other things) and I am concerned there is a fire risk.
