Mustang Premium V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,000 miles

I purchased my 2010 mustang in 2009 when they first came out. It is out of the extended warranty because of the amount of miles I have put on it driving back and forth to work (highway miles). However, I do not understand how mileage has anything to do with how well a paint job holds up. When you purchase a vehicle you assume the paint job will hold up for at least 5 years. My hood started showing signs of "bubbling" about six months ago. Now the areas are started to chip off and show corrosion. But because it does not actually have a hole through the metal Ford will not do anything about it. When I searched the internet about this problem I found MANY complaints about Ford products having problems with the paint corroding. How can Ford get away with this and not offer a solution to their customers other than "Sorry it's not covered". Why are customers having to pay to have it fixed when we paid for the vehicle a few years ago and were under the impression that the paint was actually going to stay on the vehicle for at least five years???

The paint is blistering off the hood of my car. Ford says their paint is only guaranteed to stick for 36000 miles or 3 years whichever comes first. It makes the car look like crap. the paint is blistered which means it is a manufacture defect, either the paint sucks or the hood was not cleaned good enough before painting. If I knew the paint would only stick for a short time I would not have spent thousands of dollars for this car.

corrosion on the hood corrosion on the hood corrosion on the hood corrosion on the hood corrosion on the hood corrosion on the hood

Took my 2010 Mustang in to my Ford dealer, Key Scales Ford in Leesburg, FL, to have the rust bubbles on the hood of my Mustang looked at and set up an appoint to have them repaired. This is when I found out that the hood was made from aluminum welded to an iron frame and where the iron was welded to the aluminum corrosion would develop. The service manager said they had seen this many times in various Ford vehicles and Ford would not pay for any repairs, however The service manager took pictures and said he would sent them to the district/area manager and he would call me in a couple of weeks. Well he never called so after one month I returned to Key Scales Ford and found out the service manager never sent the pictures to the area manager. At this time I found out this dealer has co-service managers, so the other service manager Joe Van Waes took more pictures and sent them to Ford and said he would call me within 24 hours which he did. The news was not good. Ford sent a note back to the service manager stating the request for repairs is not approved. I am now contacting everyone I can to get satisfaction, Better Business Bureau, any government agency that will help, my congressman etc. This is poor workmanship on Ford's part and they need to make good on it.

Update from Mar 19, 2014: Cost of repairs is estimated to be $1800.00.

Mustang GT 4.6L V8

  • Manual transmission
  • 41,000 miles

Waited to take my vehicle back to the original dealer back in January 2012. Corrosion was on the outside and underneath the hood. Worked with Ford service Center and was told I would have to pay $400. Had to wait 2 months for the paint to cure and now I have more corrosion under the hood, this time near the hood latching mechanism. Corrosion is not going away its only spreading. I am being told I am the only one with this problem.
