body corrosion under paint body corrosion under paint

I am the owner of a 2011 Ford Mustang. When it had less than 20k miles on it, during June of 2014 I noticed blistered paint on the front of my hood. Closer inspection revealed no less than nine separate areas of this defect. On July 28th, I took it to Genesee Valley Ford in Avon, NY. They photographed it and said they will contact the company rep to see if Ford will cover some part of the repair. I was also told this was a common problem and has been for many years. On August 14th, I received a call from Steve DelVecchio at Genesee Valley Ford. He told me Ford will not pay any part of the repair. Thus, I own a low mileage vehicle slightly over three years old with visible corrosion which will cost over $600 to repair.

Since a simple Internet search also proves this has been an ongoing issue for several years, I must ask why this has not been corrected and how Ford can justify neglecting its customers simply because it took slightly over the three year warranty to develop?

This is the second Ford I have recently owned and unless the company stands behind their product, it will definitely be my last.

I feel since this has been a known defect for over a decade and Ford refuses to remedy the situation, the only solution left to protect the consumer is a class action suit.

When I reported the Corrosion on the hood to the Ford dealer, they told me that my warranty just expired a week ago. They sent my claim to ford via e-mail with pictures. Ford said there is nothing they can do about it since the warranty is up, (as if this happened overnight). Ford knows that this is a problem with a lot of their cars and trucks, I just wish they would own up to it. My car at the time had 17,000 miles on it and was 3 years and one weak old. I clean my car 2-3 time a weak and this spot on the hood is getting worst. This makes me sick every time I see it.

body corrosion under paint body corrosion under paint

About a year ago I started noticing a little bit of bubbling of the paint on the leading edge of the hood but never thought much about it since it was barely noticeable and since I thought the hood was fiberglass. I knew that it couldn't be rust. However, the problem has gotten significantly worse in the last few weeks as you can see from the photos and when I took it to the Ford dealerships in my area the let me know the hood was aluminum not fiberglass and that it was corroding under the paint which is causing the paint to lift up and peel away. This is the first new Ford that I have ever purchased and I bought it because it was sporty but now everybody that notices my car right away points out "what's wrong with paint on the hood" The rest of the paint on the car is perfect and looks gorgeous except for this aluminum hood. I want Ford to fix the problem but it appears so far they are not wanting to make it right. Either Ford fixes these kind of problems when they occur or it will be the last Ford that I will buy new. Before this time I purchased four brand new GM vehicles and never had any paint issues until the vehicles were over 10 years ago and nothing like the hood corrosion problem I'm dealing with on my 2011 Ford Mustang. FORD PLEASE FIX MY CAR!!!!!!

Ford Certified car. Problem appeared outsided 36,000 mile bumper to bumper. Ford says only perforation warranty applies. Aluminum hood will not perforate from rust so we're left holding the bag. Definite corrosion problem.

My first new car purchase, 2011 Mustang special edition now has bubbling/corrosion on front lip of hood and several spots under the hood. Of course, problem showed up JUST after the bumper to bumper warranty. The problem was admitted to by Ford, in their own TSB's in 2004 and 2006. I have a 2011, so why do I have the same problem? Someone at Ford not passing down this info?? Ford's own lab found the problem to be at their plant where the aluminum hood was contaminated with iron prior to paint.

Even though it is corrosion, Ford says it isn't covered under their more generous (LOL) corrosion warranty of 5 years/unlimited miles until it actually PERFORATES and causes a hole. WTF? Really? I'm supposed to continue making payments for a car that is rusting right before my eyes and hope it makes a hole in the next year so it would be covered (as it should be covered TODAY)? FORD needs to get this customer happy and fast, or I'll be forced to trade it for the C car (as a mustang lover, I can't even type the name of the closest competitors car). I love my stang, but dammit I should NOT have to pay for a known problem that Ford chose not to fix, or made a big mistake in their solution. So as of now, I have contacted Ford and requested their intervention, and if I'm not satisfied I will be in arbitration with them, their BBB auto program and the court system.

I have gone to my dealer and called Ford customer satisifaction line. I have done that multiple times over the last 6-8 months. They said the warranty is for if its a perforated rust through. However from my research the hoods are aluminium which don't rust, they galvanize (I think that's the correct term). Since my first call this issue has spread from about the size of a quarter to about 6-8 inches across the lip of the hood. It has since cracked and a small piece maybe an inch long has broken off exposing the metal underneath.

When I googled my issue to see if anyone else was having this and how they solved this is when I realized this was happening to a lot of people. Im sorry for the long link but here is my generic google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=haggerty+ford&oq=haggerty+ford&aqs=chrome..69i57j5j0l2.1819j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=2011+ford+mustang+hood+rust

this links shows that Ford in the past has had the same issues for older cars. Post seen here: http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/15/judge-allows-suit-over-aluminum-corrosion-in-fords-to-move-forward/

This local news broadcasted about this issue: http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/business/Ford-Owners-Upset-About-Bad-Paint-Jobs-130218428.html

Now, I have been very patient with this issue. I love my car. I spent my hard earned money on this car. I take great care of it and its pretty devastating to see this happening to a car that is only 3 years old. I would expect to see this on older cars. Based on what I have read, I feel that its only fair to the consumer that Ford takes action on this to fix what damage has been done and to prevent this issue in the future.

I have been in twice in less than a year for galvanic action under the front edge of the hood. The aluminum hood and steel bolts that attach it apparently cause a slight electric current which bubbles the paint. Both times covered under warrenty, but now Ford tells me it wont be covered again. They have not solved the problem, only repainted the hood twice. It will come back, I want to join a class action lawsuit.

aluminum hood corroding under paint on front edge

Not going to go off, but I am disappointed that a company like Ford who knows about the problem, have continued to prepare the hoods in a manner which causes the problem. This is bad business and poor management.
