My father took his Taurus to the dealer for brakes. While there they reprogrammed the computer. When they did this they put the wrong code in causing the vehicle not to start. When he called them to find out why they had reprogrammed the computer he was told that there was a risk of fire and explosion. His complaint is 1) if there is such a high risk of fire and explosion with the 2000 Taurus why hasn't a recall been issued, and 2) if the risk is low, why are they making this repair without the owners knowledge or conscent. Please contact him at the number I have provided as soon as possible to discuss this further. Thank you :-) ps I have submitted this complaint on behalf of my father. Any info left out he can provide.

Since may of 2000 there was a problem with the starter system jamming. Consequences of down systems...such as windshield wipers, ABS, traction control, turn signals, A/C and blower. One incident led to complete shut down of car...dead would not start. Dealer replaced two starters and then one "starter switch'. that failed as well and dealer tried to repair on 9/25/2000 and confessed they could not and that they had conferred with Ford before last two repairs and they said Ford knew of this problem and didn't expect a fix till 4th qtr.. they told me there is no safety issue here and I question that because my car whent into complete shut down of all systems and dealer couldn't even start it.

I purchased a 2000 model Ford Taurus LX from marietta Ford on 7/10/2000. The VIN # is [xxx]. on 7/27 my wife was involved in a collision while driving this vehicle. Upon investigation and repair the airbag sensors failed, causing the airbags to not deploy. The traction control system malfunctioned, causing the brakes and wheels to lock and making the vehicle unable to stop to avoid a collision. Ford has failed to take responsibility despite repeated attempts to contact them and forwarding them all the appropriate information. In light of the recent spate of defects reported from Ford, it appears they now have an additional issue. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
