- the contact stated that on January 5, 2007 the contact was traveling in reverse when she heard a noise. The contact noticed the left front tire was flat. The contact stated on January 4, 2007 heard a loud noise coming from the garage, he went to investigate and found nothing. The contact believed that the noise he heard was the front tire spring rupturing. The contact stated he had heard squeaking noises coming from the front of the vehicle when it would go over bumps, but did not know what it was. The contact had the mechanic take a look at it, but he did not find anything. The vehicle had to be towed to a repair shop. Where they ordered two new front springs. Updated 02/22/07.

Taurus 6-cyl

I own a 2001 Ford Taurus SE. I took my vehicle in for nys inspection and found that 2 of my coils were broken, one rear and one front coil. My car has only 27,300 miles on it. This is a ridiculous problem to have with so few miles on my car. I took my car to the dealer and they replaced only one front coil and I had to pay to have the rear coil fixed. I have since learned that they are required to fix both front coils, even if only one breaks, which they did not do. However, why are the rear coils not covered in the recall"?" they are also subject to salt. The rear coils are just as faulty as the front coils.

: the contact stated the front driver and passenger side coil spring fractured. On April 27th the vehicle was in an accident afterwards a vibration was felt, there was an intense rattle and a noise was heard while driving over bumps. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who insisted the vehicle was fine. It was later determined the front driver side coil spring had in fact fractured during the accident. On June 3rd while stopped at a light the passenger side coil spring fractured. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road due to the weight of the vehicle on the strut the contact was unable to determined the failure. The vehicle was driven home. The contact jacked the vehicle and determined the front passenger side coil spring had fractured in half. The contact is concerned the original rear coil springs will break while driving. There is an open investigation regarding the rear coil springs, NHTSA item number EA06002.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SE that recently fractured the drivers side front coil spring which punctured a hole in the tire. The vehicle was parked. I have read that this problem has affected a large number of others and would like to know what has or what is being done to solve the problem. Also, what am I responsible to pay for? I have not fixed the car, I want to know what will prevent the other side from doing the same in the event that I might be driving.

Broken rear coil spring on 2001 Ford Taurus punctured the rear driver side tire. I was searching to make sure pricing was correct on the repair when I found a news story that the NHTSA was investigating complaints of the same type of incident. I started to hear a noise a day or two before it happened and was on my way to drop the car of at a repair shop when the incident happened. I am having the car repaired with both rear coil springs and struts replaced. The repair will cost in excess of 1000 dollars. Please file this complaint with the rest of the incidents.

Ford recalled front springs. However, the rear springs have penetrated the tire tread and the rear passenger's side. Both springs broke, but only one penetrated the tire. Spoke with dealer and Ford as well and they do not want to remedy this problem. Felt this was unsafe and wanted a recall on the rear as well. Ford said it was not on the steering wheel side so there was an accident with a tire punctured with the springs it would not affect the steering.
