My story is the same as everyone else: stopped without warning. Their were no tell tale signs the transmission was going out. Worked fine one minute, and the next it did not work at all. Our family mechanic gave me a deal to replace it with a new transmission for $1400. The worst part is when i picked it up I was made aware that the front suspension is on its last leg. He quoted me $700 for that. Well their goes our summer fun money! boo hoo. Did I mention i need tires? $2500 on car repairs this summer. this sucks.

I've only had my car for 3 1/2 years and last Friday my transmission went out while on my way home from work. No warning lights, noises, nothing! I was lucky I wasn't rear ended because traffic was very heavy. I see I'm not the only person that has had this problem and I think Ford should recall these faulty transmissions. Until this incident, I was very happy with my Taurus, but if i can't get this fixed, I'm going to make sure the world knows that as a car company FORD SUCKS!! This is a manufacturer's defect and they should be held accountable.

My transmission went out without warning while my daughter was driving during rush hour. My Taurus only has 73,000 miles on it and of course no warranty. The dealership said it is the Torque Converter and Pump Supply Shaft. $1500 repair. This is a manufacturers defect not neglect and should be recalled by Ford!

Update from Jun 1, 2010: After numerous phone calls I was able to get Ford to pay over half of the repair bill. I got it back in a week and so far it is running great.

OK so I guess Im not alone in the Transmission breaking without warning. Except I got a slight warning; the Check Transmission came up on the readout for about 10 minutes then went off and then about three days later the check engine light came on. It didnt leave me stranded, but from all the other complaints if I didnt have a transmission shop a block from my house Im sure it would have. He is quoting me close to 2200 dollars at the top end. So Im not sure if I will pay it or just buy a different car since the value of this car is under that. Oh here's the best news just paid it off three months ago and the day I received the title, the next day I paid 700.00 for breaks :-) Dont you love life. Other than these problems the car was fantastic.

It really pisses you off when you do everything you can to follow the regular maintenance schedule on this car only to have it die with no warning. I even use synthetic oil to extend the life of my engine. The transmission on this thing just quit this week. I parked it one night and it wouldn't move the next morning. No problems before, no warnings, no bad sounds, nothing. It just decided that it was no longer gonna moving. I've been quoted $3500 for a rebuilt tranny. Sounds damn high to me! I have read other comments here. I'm thinking about just shooting it with my 357 to put it out of it's misery! No more Ford's for me. STEP UP FORD and smell the crap you're slinging and selling. After 35 dedicated years of buying your product, I am moving to an import, like many in our country. Made it America has a different meaning these days. China is sending production cars here soon. I guess even they are laughing at "Made in America" stickers now. Build a car that lasts more than 5 years and I'll think about coming back. Otherwise, our family is changing sides! You'll get no more of my cash!

My transmission 'blew-up into bits" (quote from repair place) and had to be completely rebuilt. Very dangerous situation. I purchased this car with only 45k miles hoping to not have this expensive of a repair for a while. I have 4 Taurus over the past 20 years and have never seen this before. When I was picking up my car another 2004 had arrived with the same problem. Possible bad/weak metal used? Recall???????

I trust this repair place. I've used them before. I had only 2nd gear replaced in a 1999 Taurus at a cost of $1,200 at 120,000 and then the transmission went for another 100k until it had to be completely replaced. I don't think they tried to over sell me.

Three nights earlier someone told me that they same thing happened to a friend of theirs.

My husband and I had just made a left turn onto the feeder slowly approaching the freeway entrance when all of a sudden the engine revved up but the car slowed down!! He had to swiftly maneuver us out of traffic and to the side of the road to later be towed 22miles ($140.00) to the mechanic. PROBLEM?? Bad transmission. We bought this car in 2005 with 12,000 miles on it and my husband has treated it very dearly ever since with regular maintenance. It's just us and we both have our own cars so my husband is the only one who drives it and me occasionally. This new transmission will be costing us $2,262.00. If we didn't have a year until it was paid off we'd sale it. We knew better than to buy a FORD (Found On Roadside Dead) but we were young, dumb, and broke and wanted to finance the car by ourselves! We'll NEVER...I MEAN NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD!! I have had my Saturn for 8years and 256,000 miles and never have I had such problems. His car was considered the "nice car". We should all get together and get our damn $ back. I sure am looking into it!
