Taurus 6-cyl

  • 18,000 miles
I was in the process of parking my car and when I put it into park the engine revved up and had to turn off the car as it would not throttle down. The second time I was driving, was applying brakes and started to drive and engine revved up, had to brake and then turn car off. Third time I was starting vehicle and engine revved up, had to turn off. The cruise control cable was replaced on the vehicle less than a year after I purchased.

Several times since April 1st, my 2005 Taurus has suddenly accelerated on its own. In order to stop the vehicle I had to constantly apply and then ride the brakes. I also had to put the car into neutral.

2005 Ford Taurus wagon accelerates all on its own. Happens on freeway going 65. Happened while coming to a stop light, brakes had a hard time stopping vehicle. Can get up to 3000 or more RPM's at any given time on its own. Very scary and very very dangerous.

We was driving and the car started to accelerate on its own and continued to accelerate @ faster speed till about 75 mph.. we was going 40 mph on our own to start.. we had to brake the car but it seemed the more we brake the more it would go.. but we did it @ force till it stopped, and squealing brakes and put it in park and the car sound as if I was pushing pedal to floor and I turned it off as is.. so I opened hood went to throttle and moved the cage on it then I heard a click and started it up and it was fine..now 5/20/13 it does it atleast 1 a day and my cousin who is mechanic said put it in neutral and give the gas a little push to get it to release.. and call Ford to see if there's a recall.. I called and they said there isn't a recall to have it service asap because it dangerous.. but my thought is if there is a lot of people with same issue why wouldn't it be on recall due to severity (fordforum.com).

Car began to accelerate on its own and would not slow down when foot was removed from gas. It responded to the brake, but then revved up to 3000 RPM on its own, with my foot off the gas pedal. It was hard to stop. This happened in speed ranges of 0-60 mph. After car sat for 8 hours, I turned the ignition on and it shot up to 3000 RPM. I shifted into gear and the car accelerated on its own, without my foot on the gas pedal. I called aaa and the tow truck driver found the plastic clips on the cruise control cable disconnected from the throttle. He reconnected the clips but they seemed to be too loose and easily came off again. The car was towed to a aaa car center, where the technician replaced the cruise control cable and idle air control valve. No issues since the repair.

July 25, 2011, 1st engine revved but car did not move. Pressed gas, car took off at full speed. Reached speeds over100 mph in a 35 mph, turned off ke to stop. Ford replaced throttle body, cruise control cable due to wear, fuel filter, air filter, transmission flush, replace washer hose at $748.22 cost to owner. 2nd, June 2012. Car started sudden acceleration, turnoff key to stop car. Ford dealer could not replicate sudden acceleration incident, told owner to pick up vehicle, no work performed. 3rd incident March 21,2013, sudden acceleration shifting into drive, turned off key, re-started engine light came on, car missed & chugged. Car would not go 20 mph. Ford said they could not replicate rapid acceleration. Went to pick up car at deal and when started engine light was on and car missed and chugged. Could not drive car off of dealer's lot. Returned keys with instructions to review rapid acceleration problems. Contacted Ford corporate customer service opened case [xxx]. was told that no recall exists on that vehicle, we could have a discount on buying a new Ford vehicle to resolve the incident. Ford dealer on nd review replaced ignition coil assy, spark plugs, updated PCM codes, tightened tie rods, 4 wheel alignment, replaced 2 front tires, fuel filter, front or rear brakes with rotor replacements, oil filter and lube change at cost of $1681.82 to owner. Ford dealer at pick up would not provide written guarantee that rapid acceleration problem had been fixed or eliminated. My son's safety at hands of Ford refusal to fix problem. His fathers 2002 escape (similar 6 cylinder Ford) has a recall and fix for rapid acceleration problems. We asked Ford customer service about future liability if we sold the car & they said if we sell the car there would be no liability. This does not seem to ethical & leaves vehicle owner at a potential safety risk.

Throttle will stick and car will continue as if on cruise control. It is a random event. So far, have had the throttle cable replaced, fuel pressure "thing", and had the throttle body cleaned, and throttle continues to randomly stick.

The vehicle idle fluctuates. On multiple occasions while at a stop with the foot on the brake the engine will shut off completely. Additionally, on occasion when making a low speed turn at approx 15-30 mph the vehicle engine will completely shut off causing an extremely dangerous situation trying to maneuver the vehicle without power steering or brakes to a safe stop.

Driving down the road when I accelerated the car continued to accelerate after I took my foot off the gas pedal. This happened to my girlfriend earlier when she drove the car. I was able to stop the acceleration by stomping on the gas pedal twice very hard. My girlfriend had to shift into neutral when it happened to her. This is an ongoing problem with this car and happens randomly at different speeds and conditions. When it happens the engine revs to about 4,000 rpms when shifted into neutral before going to normal. I did some research and discovered that as of March 2012 there were over 395,000 complaints about this and that the NHTSA was investigation. This is a common problem and well documented. I am a Ford fan but am very disappointed this has not been addressed properly especially in the wake of the Toyota recalls for similar problems a few years ago. I contacted the NHTSA this morning to discover that: NHTSA campaign id number: PE12005 "a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of Agency resources does not appear to be warranted. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances. " I am asking that this case be reopened before someone is killed and that Ford be forced to do the right thing and issue a recall if they won't do it voluntarily.

Vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and speed continued to increase even though I removed my foot from the accelerator. I put the vehicle in neutral - the engine was running at this point at nearly 4000 RPM - and pressed quickly on the accelerator. This stopped the acceleration and the engine returned to normal RPM. This scenario was repeated two more times before I arrived at my destination.

I have multiple times where my car is accelerating on its own and have to put car in neutral to stop it. RPM's are so high the rev limiter kicks in and at least 15-20 times while stopped at a traffic light with the car at idle, car would accelerate fast with my foot on the brake almost hitting car in front of me, once again putting in neutral to stop it, had it looked at by service centers but no fault codes were found and was told not repairable if no code were found because they would be guessing for the problem. And I did look to see if the cruise control cable was on or off the linkage assembly, but cable was attached ok and had not fallen off like other reports.

While my wife was driving the car she told me the engine raced and it was all she could do to stop the car. At first I thought she had maybe turned on and set the cruise control by mistake because I could not get the symptoms to repeat. About three weeks later the same thing happened to me. I put the car into neutral and the engine revved to almost 4000 rpms and stayed there for about 15 seconds. Had the car checked out with nothing found wrong. Has not recurred.

While driving in a 45 mph zone throttle stuck had to brake hard to slow vehicle down put into neutral, engine rpms in excess of 6000 turned off car waited several minutes before restarting. Seemed fine however cruise control no longer worked. Upon inspection later on the cruise control cable had become disconnected. Reconnected cable, problem recurred in residential neighborhood. Reconnected again and again problem of stuck accelerator happened, again in a residential area.

I was driving at 40 mph down the road when traffic slowed down. I released the throttle to apply the brakes and the engine rpms increased and the vehicle would not slow down. I narrowly avoided an accident by applying the brakes as hard as I could and drove into a parking lot before shutting the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle, the engine RPM was around 4,000 RPM and would not come down. After pressing the accelerator pedal several times the vehicles engine returned to idle speed. Upon further inspection I found that the cruise control cable had become disconnected from the throttle body. I assume that the cable was able to wedge the throttle open and became unstuck once I depressed the accelerator pedal several times. The plastic end on the cruise control cable is not broken but does fit loosely on the throttle body when I reconnected it. I have applied a plastic zip tie to the cruise control cable to keep it from coming off again.

My husband was driving our 2005 Ford Taurus with the air conditioner on high, he heard a pop and then saw flames coming out of the engine. He was able to get out of the vehicle and call the fire dept. The car went up in flames. The mechanic said the fire started in the air conditioner. The car is a total loss.

I had noticed on several occasions that the gas pedal seemed to stick and the engine seemed to rev and the RPM needle would increase to 3500 or more even though I had my foot on the brake. After a couple of minutes, the engine would return to normal. Last week, my cruise control would not work, although I was able to turn on the word cruise on the dash when I pushed the on and set buttons, but the cruise did not take hold. The engine continues to rev up when I start the car and when I bring the car to a stop..

Car continued accelerating after taking foot off gas pedal. Slowed car down. Pulled off road and stopped and put in park. Engine roared. Turned off car. After a few minutes restarted car but engine still roared. Car bucked and lurched. Stomped on gas pedal to stop engine surge. Have taken car to Ford dealer 5 times and each time they tell me it is fixed only for it to happen again.
