I saw the huge complaints,I was just worrying about my car,now it happened.

After I researched online and used some old mechanical knowledge I concluded that my torque converter failed. To use old school method to check this, check your transmission fluid with the engine running hot and in neutral if the fluid level does not drop to its normal running level this means that the spline in the converter has sheered.

I own a 2005 Ford Taurus and just discovered that it has transmission problems! I was driving in traffic went to move forward and the engine revved and the car didn't move. I was lucky enough that it clicked back into gear enough for me to get it to a mechanic. He told me that it was the transmission. I do some research and come to find out that this is a big issue with the Ford Taurus and that Ford refuses to do anything about it. I just sent an e-mail to Ford and I am going to contact an attorney tomorrow to see what steps are needed for a class action suit. In the meantime, I will be spreading the word to all of my family and friends that buy Ford to think twice before they do. I am so disappointed. Stand American, Buy American...and this is why are sales are down....

After reading the number of complaints about the SAME issue that I had today with my car, I decided to post a complaint as well. Just as MANY others, my car was going great...stopped at a stop sign, made the corner then the RPMS went thru the roof...no forward or backward gears. The ONLY gear that works is PARK!! These transmissions are JUNK from the word go! I do feel like Ford should accept responsibility for this issue and make restitution to all of us who BOUGHT AMERICAN...and got screwed!!! The only solution I know that might work is to post contact information for Ford Motor Company and possibly file a class action lawsuit...here is the information I found...Phone number for Customer Relations is..800-392-3673...address is Ford Motor Company, Customer Relationship Center, P.O. Box 6248, Dearborn, MI 48126...
good luck to all...take my advice SHOP FOR A TOYOTA!!!! That's what I plan to do! Oh and post on Facebook! That seems to get some attention!

Typical Taurus Transmission Failure - 77,000 miles - transmission just failed while driving. Well maintained car - fluids checked / changed regularly and car driven without undo stress / wear and tear. Clearly poor manufacturing / design. Unlikely I will own another American Car after having now owned 3 Taurus. The 1990 went 100000 before giving it up. This one 77,000 and the other one I own has me scared to think when it will quit. I'm headed for a Japanese built car with a better warranty, better record of reliability and better mileage. If I can't get 150,000 miles out of a drive train, I'm not interested. Thought they had worked to improve their reputation, but guess I was wrong. I should have known better.

I'm so sorry I bought this 2005 3.0L automatic Taurus, I have no words for it.It's been a POS since the day I bought it,I got it new. After 2000 miles,it burned off the right front tire.Took it back to the dealer four times for an alignmant, nine thousand miles and 3 tires later, took it to a friend who is the service manager at a large tire store, when he saw the car,he rolled his eyes.WE both worked for Goodyear years ago,so I did most of the job,we ended up having to break welds on the top shock mount and rewelded them to align it,and we still couldn't get it perfect. It still chews up right front tires twice as fast as the left. The gas mileage absolutely SUCKS.My wife drives it almost strictly on the highway to work,at best,it gets 18 MPG.My old POC '99 Grand Am is twice as fast, more comfortable, and gets 22MPG IN TOWN,and has over 200,000 miles on it with nothing but maintainence.By the way,I use nothing but Mobil one in my cars,I also have a '73 Saab Sonett with 125,000 miles on it.A year after we bought the Taurus,we hated it so much,we tried to trade it in on a Pontiac Solstace. They offered us EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS THAN WE OWED ON IT FOR A TRADE!!!!! Something like $6500.00 for a year old car,so we can't even get rid of it..
Now,on to the last straw..The transmission has always been annoying.I live in hilly country, and in snow..WHY THE H#LL would FORD,put a transmission in a car that you can't downshift?? Several weeks ago,it started slipping in third gear.I changed the fluid at 45,000 and 85,000 miles, drained it again when the problems started, every time,it looked like mud.Two weeks later,it just STOPPED in the middle of a busy highway,my wife ended up stranded at night in the middle of nowhere on the way home from work. The trans is sitting on the floor at my friends garage right now,I can't even find a replacement because mine has a column shift, most were floor shifts. When I saw the trans,my head almost exploded. The transmission is huge, but most of it is the torque converter/differential..The actual TRANSMISSION is the size of a TWO LITRE soda bottle, something that belongs in a Focus.[by the way, spell that one backwards..]
I will NEVER,EVER BUY ANOTHER FORD,I badmouth them every chance I get to anyone that will listen, and even a few that don't want to.My friend is a Ford designer,I don't even talk to him anymore...I've owned Fords all my life,DOZENS of them, the Grand Am was my first non Ford,[it was just too good a deal to pass up on..],or non foreign sports car,and the Saab has a Ford motor...

Ford Taursu 2005/ Had minor A/C service done on 7/21. Car had run fine up to now. Technician suggested transmission flush, that was not done. Drove the car about 150 miles since Thur and had a catastrophic transmission failre on I-81 on 7/23 in 100 degree heat. Did technician cause a problem? Based on what I've seen, it appears this is a common problem with Taurus. Had car towed and was picked up 80 miles from home. Will make decision on repair tomorrow?($800-$2000) Need the car to last another 50k miles. Body in good shape and engine appear to be running fine.

I am reporting this on behalf of my dear friend, who could not report this problem because he lost his precious life in the incident. Two weeks after this 24th birthday, Jason and I were coming back from having his official birthday dinner. We were traveling on a busy highway, when all of a sudden his 2005 Ford Taurus started going up in RPMs, just as if it had slipped into neutral. He tried to accelerate a few more times, but only the RPMS went up. His car was still in drive. At this point, the car had slowed down to about 20 mph, and we decided to to try to find room to stop. The car finally came to a stop, but we didn't have a chance to find room to veer to the side of the road, since cars were traveling in both left and right lanes. At this point in time, some traffic had cleared up by going around us, so we decided to push...and we got out while the car was in the middle of the highway. While Jason got out, I heard the most horrific sound of my life...as Jason had exited the vehicle, I hear brakes and tires squealing and a faint scream from Jason and several thumps. My friend Jason got hit as he tried to exit the car. Several passer bys, including the vehicle that hit him stopped...and offered tremendous help. Despite attempts to revive him, he died on the way to the hospital. There were no charges files against the woman who had hit him, since she did not expect a person to come out of a car in the middle of a highway.
The car was towed to the mechanic a couple weeks after, and they concluded it is indeed the transmission failure that affects this car.
A transmission failure at this low-mileage (49k) resulted in my friends death. His parents had bought him a newer car thinking that it would be safer than a smaller car and the low mileage would mean less problems. Ford has refused to admit any fault and refused to admit anything about their transmission, even after a death like this. They showed no condolence, and acted as if it were our fault, even though we tried our best to move off the road.
This car should be taken off the road, immediately. Ford knows about the problem, but refuses to do anything about it. Unfortunately, it won't even take a death for Ford to acknowledge and deal with the problem.
Rest in Peace Jason P., our dear friend, son, and brother, on behalf of all of us who loved him.

FORD KNOWS TAURUS TORQUE CONVERTERS ARE JUNK AND THE DEALERS KNOW IT TOO. WE STOPPED PAYMENT BECAUSE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR TSB OR RECALL.YES YOU CAN STOP PAYMENT .SEE YOU IN COURT.

Approximately 15 months and about 15,000 miles later, the torque converter went out on the transmission we got rebuilt. Dealer refused to do anything about it, never got any responses from Ford to the numerous emails and phone calls. I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER purchase a Ford product again and have told all family and friends to be careful about this car. Saw numerous problems with this transmission on the internet and it took twelve calls to mechanics to find one who would work on a Ford transmission. All said the car had numerous transmission problems.

On my way to Easter pictures and car just stopped in the middle of a very busy road. Had to have it towed home. Argued with Ford and loan company for three weeks about who would pay for fix. Until I refused to pay for the loan then Ford called me and agreed to honor extended warranty. Took almost 2 months to get car back.

We bought the car used, so it may have been a pre existing problem, but in the middle of summer in Florida, where it can get darn close to 100 degrees, the 4 speed automatic transmission went out on our 2005 Ford Taurus, leaving us stranded. We had just barely exceeded the 36,000 mile warranty, and had to bark like hell to the reps at Ford, who wanted me to pay $3000+ for a "Rebuild" (note, not a new one). Finally, a friendly rep agreed with me that it was ridiculous to have a major repair, 500 miles after the warranty expired, and I got off with just a $500 deductible.
They required that I had it done at the Ford dealer, and gave me a 12 month 12k warranty on the rebuilt transmission (parts only). Lo and behold, 8 months later, the transmission breaks again. Unfortunately, we had put 13000 miles in those 8 months. I said this was more ridiculous than the original situation. The rep said they could no longer extend the warranty, and I would be responsible for the repairs (now estimated at $3,250). I told the service manager, he wasn't touching it, and had it towed home, where it sat in my driveway until tax refund time. I had a local transmission specialist fix it. He charged me $2700 and gave me a 36 month, unlimited mileage warranty, that has only recently expired.

This is my wife car. She called me at work and said that the car will not move in any gear. I thought that it was the whole tranny but just the converter. I had to take a half day off work to get the car. Now it says in the instrument panel to check transmission and the engine light comes on. Why can't they build a car like the old ones'.

Driving down a busy highway inside a construction zone, I eased onto the gas when my car wouldn't move forward and suddenly my engine revved like it was in neutral. Had to dodge two lanes of traffic to get it over, but since there was no emergency area for disabled vehicles due to construction, I had to put it off the road in the mud after we've received several days of constant rain.
I finally got it towed to a transmission shop and in some ways I got lucky because I bought an extended service contract which covers mostly the entire transmission. I haven't been updated by the shop on the exact problem yet, but it sounds like it's an issue with the torque converter. Reading so many related issues on this transmission is insane. I've only bought and driven a Taurus for the past 11 years and I've always been happy with them. If they are putting together known defects or, for the lack of better words, known components, then I'm not so sure anymore.

I read all the complaints. Mine is no different. I was driving 65 mph and was 87 miles from home when the transmission failed. Waiting to get the full report from the mechanic.
I will think twice about buying another Ford. Ironically, hours prior to this incident I make a remark that I would consider a F-150.... maybe not. I understand that this is an inherent risk of motoring (and manufacturing motor vehicles); however, it is disappointing to have to substantially re-invest in a vehicle after having it paid off.
It is my hope that our Taurus will prove its worth in the long run. If this is the case, I will be willing to come to terms with this issue. I will never be able to say, "It never left me walking."

VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD I THOUGHT WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR I WAS GETTING A DEPENDABLE CAR. WRONG YOU CAN FIND ME ON THE ROAD DEAD WITH ALL THE OTHERS AND WITH A BIG REPAIR BILL. I'M STILL TRYING TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY TO REPAIR IT. WHO HAS 2,000 OR MORE IN THIS DAY AND AGE JUST SITTING AROUND. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT FORD HAS GONE THIS LONG WITHOUT A RECALL. I KNOW WHY THEY WERE THE ONLY CAR COMPANY NOT TO GO UNDER BECAUSE THEY WERE MAKING CHEAP CARS. THE NEXT CAR I WILL GET WILL NOT BE FROM FORD EVER AGAIN. YOU BUY AMERICAN AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS.

This is the same problem I had just a year ago. It is getting crazy. I hope if I have this car next year I don't have to replace the same thing again.

I was at a stoplight with my 3 year old. Thank GOD I made it through the light just enough to get my car off of the road. It would not go into any gear whatsoever. It just sounded like I was revving up the motor. I think something needs to be done about this problem before someone is hurt really bad. I was so shocked at all of the complaints and Ford has done nothing about this problem. I will not be buying another Ford. Like my grandmother always said FORD means Found On Road Dead.............

The Ford Motor Company knows this a flawed piece of equipment, but refuses to recall it because it would cost them Millions to make it right.

I got in my vehicle and fixing to go to work and put it in reverse and RPMs shot up but didnt move. Motoring running normally. I then put it in park and tried reverse again; again RPMs shot up, then tried other gears and none worked. I killed my car and recranked and repeated above steps with same results. This happened in July and it is now Sept 20, 2011 and my vehicle is still in the shop and still not fixed. I bought my vehicle used in May 2010 from Jay Mallard Ford in Jonesboro, LA. Never had a moments trouble with this vehicle. There was no warnings of a problem. My vehicle was well maintained and service during my ownership. I am just thankful I was not stranded anywhere and didnt have a wreck with this malfunction.
