The car has intermittent high idle making it difficult to slow down and stop. It also lurches forward once foot is off the brake. I have been in several near accidents because of high idle problem. Replaced pvc, replaced iac, cleaned throttle body, with no good results.

The throttle has stuck several times. It's most noticeable around 40 mph after taking my foot off of the accelerator and applying the brake. I've had to put it in neutral when this happens, at which point, the rpms race up over 5,000. By revving the engine a couple of times, the rpms would come down to idle. Then I could put it back in drive. This problem occurs every several thousand miles or so, so it's difficult for a mechanic to assess. I've taken it to three different mechanics. I believe all of them lubricated the throttle and/or made minor adjustments. The last time this happened was over 30K miles ago. It's worth noting that my cruise control has also malfunctioned several times since I've owned the car. I bought it when it had 28K on it. I currently has about 90K miles. The most dangerous situation was when I was driving with my family down newfound gap rd. In the great smoky mountain natl park. Coming down the 7% grade, the brake pedal hardened, making it almost impossible to stop. We had to stop frequently, using stream water to cool the rims while coasting down the mountain in neutral. A recall needs to be issued for this car.

Car will accelerate on its own at many different speeds, even those over 55. Breaking will only slow and not stop acceleration. You can smell the brakes burning if you try to stop the car during these periods by only pressing the brake. The only way to stop it is to shift into neutral and let the motor race up and then it will reset the throttle. It happens on a regular basis.

Cpsc#I1220409A. 2006 Ford Taurus. Consumer stated whine coasting up hill and approaching her left turn the car began to accelerate. The consumer stated she made the turn applying a good amount force to the brake. However, the vehicle accelerated anyway. The vehicle would accelerated even without her foot on the brake. She finally maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road, place both feet on the brake pedal with a great deal of force, placed the vehicle in park, and engaged the emergency brake. The vehicle continued to accelerated to 3000 RPM's while idling. She turned off the engine and when she restarted the vehicle on four separate occasions it continued to exhibit the same problem.

I was driving my car to drop my kids off at school and daycare when I noticed it was running at an extremely high RPM (5000). I had to drive with both feet on the brake pedal to keep the speed at a reasonable limit. Once I got to the first school, I parked and shut it off thinking maybe that would help. When I started it back up, the engine RPM immediately shot back up to 5000 and climbing. The engine was making such a loud and vibratory noise that I shut it off again and called my husband and he came over and traded vehicles with me. Same thing when started it; it immediately started revving and he put it into drive and there was loud thud as if the engine had hit the ground. He let off the gas and it started pulling itself. (now from my husband's experience) he took it on the interstate to see how high the speed would get before it topped out. Eventually he had to start applying the brakes at 93 mph. For whatever reason, he wondered if the cruise control would be able to maintain a safe speed and he wouldn't have to ride the brakes at 65-70 mph. When hit the cruise control it didn't work (he realized he was riding the brakes) so he hit the brake as firmly as he could to get it down to a slower speed to invoke the cruise control. Once he got down to about 50-60 mph he hit the cruise again and it came on but the car was still slowly accelerating. He hit the brakes to turn the cruise off and felt the gas pedal pop up and hit him on the side of the right foot and then the car started slowing down. We still have to drive it (he does because I?M terrified to get behind the wheel) and it does the same thing. Now he just taps the gas pedal until releases and tries not to press the gas pedal to deep.

The problem began after the vehicle's cruise control stopped working. The problem with self acceleration is occurring daily at this point. "stomping" the accelerator is the only remedy to the problem during driving conditions. The vehicle will continue to accelerate to high speeds until the accelerator is repeatedly pushed.

For several weeks, my car has been accellerating on its own. I will not have my foot on the accellerator and the car will speed up. Rpms shoot up to 4 or 5. this has happened intermittently. Pumping the accellerator is the only way to get the car under control. While coming home from vacation yesterday, I tried to stop at a stop light and couldn't stop. Thankfully, an accident was avoided as nothing was crossing the intersection. It was a very scary ride home, and I am thankful my family didn't get killed by this obvious defect in this car. I cannot understand why a recall has not been issued. Is it going to take several deaths before something is done?

I own a 2006 Ford Taurus. The vehicle accelerates to dangerous speeds without my hitting the gas and when the brakes are applied the RPM shows it has risen very high and it is very difficult to get the vehicle to come to a complete stop. It appears there is something wrong with the cruise control cable as it was twisted and as soon as it is untwisted the cruise control begins to work correctly and the vehicle stops accelerating on its own. However, it does it again within a few days. This has happened three times in two weeks. It is very dangerous and could easily get someone injured or worse. I see on several websites that I am not the only one with this model who is having this issue. This is an issue with the design or installation, not anything that we have done to the vehicle as no aftermarket adjustments or changes have occurred only routine maintenance.

I bought a 2006 Ford Taurus in December 2009. After having the vehicle for a few months, the gas pedal began to stick. A few times going around 35-40mph, the pedal would stick keeping the car accelerating. Thinking it was just my imagination, didn't think too much about it. Then, while accelerating, the pedal stuck and continued to accelerate. I applied the brakes to the top of the hill I was on, and put the car in park and turned the car off. After starting the car again, the rpms were still racing and pedal was still stuck. Had to have the car towed back to the dealer for repair. Dealer replaced some kind of coil and cable to the cruise control.

2006 Ford Taurus - while driving 30-40mph, the car began to accelerate without any pressure on the gas pedal. When attempting to stop the car, the brakes were pushed to the maximum and the car stopped half way into the intersection. After continuing through the red light, I put the car in neutral and the RPM continued to 4000-5000 until I shut the power off. When I restarted the car, the RPM immediately continued back to 5000. This is an extremely dangerous situation that I have read numerous reports and complaints. The remedy is shifting into neutral and coming to a stop--or tapping the accelerator with the foot and saying a prayer. There is no known recall available and this is a frequent complaint. There needs to be something done about this before it becomes fatal. It appears to be an issue with the cruise control that is common to many 2006 Ford Taurus models--even if the driver never uses the cruise control, the coil may hold the accelerator down. This can result in prolonged stopping times and distances, accidents, unexpected acceleration, and heating up brakes to the point of a fire. I urge any reader driving a Taurus -- particularly the 2006 model--to take action. This is not something that fixes itself and will absolutely result in future fatalities if not addressed.
