The Ford Taurus sho 2010 model has the exact same part for the steering as the 2011-2015 model that was recalled. Ford did not include this model with the recall and it suffers the same problem, sudden loss of steering with no warning. My car lost steering when driving but did not cause me to wreck. This car should be included in the recall.

A recall for 2011 and up Taurus was issued but not the 2010 which have the same problem. The car is undrivable and not safe to drive this way. While driving the power steering system failed jerking the car to the right. This caused me to graze the curb. Fortunately I was able to stop the vehicle before jumping the curb and hitting a tree. I limped the car home without power steering. I have seen the safety recall for the same issues for 2011 and up Ford Taurus. Since my particular model, sho is the only vehicle in the Taurus that incorporates this system it was not included in the recall this never notified of the possibility of this occurring. It is the second occurrence with 2011 and up recalls that has happened to my sho and never informed.

My 2010 Ford Taurus sho developed a dangerous problem with loss of power steering. The steering intermittently goes into manual mode with no power steering when there is a power steering fault. The fault happens while stationary and while in motion. Turning is severely limited and creates a dangerous condition where turning to avoid an accident would be very difficult. There is a recall for 2011-2013 Ford Taurus for this exact issue but not for my 2010 Ford Taurus.

Power assist steering fault appears on the dashboard. As I was driving down the street at 7:00 pm my steering wheel locked up and my dash read power steering assist fault. I then ran over a median and almost pulled a muscle trying to bring the car back on to the road. I called the Ford company and the rep stated that my VIN was not one of the affected vehicles. I then took my car to a Ford service shop and they have advised that this is the same exact issue that was recalled. Needless to say I am without a car while the repair remains over 1500.00.

Driving slow speed in a parking lot, epas power steering goes out, check message center shows "power steering fault". I was unable to turn the steering wheel. I turned off vehicle, reset the fault, and restarted the car. The fault happened again, unable to steer the car because power steering went out, this time I was driving 25 mph around a curve, the steering went out, and luckily I managed not to hit the curb on the other side of the street because I slammed on my brakes. This is the same steering system that is in 2011 and newer cars that have been recalled. This year needs to also be included.

I have a 2010 Taurus sho that has the eco engine that I bought 7 months ago and everything was fine until I was driving on the freeway and I look at the dashafter something pops up on the display under the mph gauge and it says that I have to service powersteering so I pull over to the side of the road and turn off the vehicle to see if it reset and to my surprise when I start the vehicle it says service powersteering now sonow my steering wheel is completely un assisted by the the electric power steering so the steering wheel is almost locked I struggled to make it home around turn almost crashing into rails and I had to drive slower than the 18 wheelers on the freeway the worst part was that I was with my family we were all terrified as I was struggling to steer with all my strength to make it home safe. After we barely made it home I just took it to get the code turned off at a mechanic shop wich was very simple, but guess what it came back everytime I got on the freeway wich is not safe.this vehicle is just sitting in my garage as it cannot be driven with such problem. This is a really serious problem and should be addressed asap before anyone gets hurt.

Power steering assist failed, almost locking up steering while stationery. Vehicle could not be driven as too many force is needed to move the steering wheel. This is the infamous electronic power assist system (epas) on many recent Ford that are failing left and right. The system replacement part is about $1,300 (the whole thing new, as it can not be repaired) + $700 labor = a $2,000+ repair. Ford has decided to recall some vehicles (2011 and newer) but others not (2010 or earlier), leaving owners like myself stranded, as these epas usually fail after the warranty expires. I own a 2010 Taurus sho, on these particular 2010 and earlier systems, which appear to be an earlier generation, when the epas fails, steering becomes hard as a rock, you simply can not drive the car. This is very concerning if it happens while driving. Unfortunately, Ford has been hiding, and even they have been investigated, they claim that even when the epas fails, you still should be able to steer your car and be able to drive it with just a little more effort. This is half true. Ford should be investigated as to why they recalled 2011 and newer but did not recalled 2010 and earlier. The two systems are different, and the pre-2010 is a more concerning issue, as it involves a total steering loss of the car.

The "service power steering now" light is on the dashboard, and the power steering does not work. The dealer used the diagnostic computer, which shows the steering gear needs to be replaced. They were able to reset the code, and power steering was working just fine. After 10 minutes of driving the "service power steering" light is back on. Power steering still works.

02/09/2016. I was stationary at a stop light. I lost all electrical power.I lost all power steering functions. The dashboard message said to put the transmission in park. These instructions would have immediately damaged the transmission. You can restart the push button start in neutral only by using the brake pedal first. Had I been in any type of traffic, a rear end collision could have occurred. The car was inspected at a Ford dealer today ( 02/11/2016). The remedy was to change a rfa module related to the key fobs. The theory is this : no key recognition means the computer is telling the car to shut down. The Ford dealer can't explain while the problem is intermittent : ( I drive with the same key fobs at all times). This is probably not the solution. This is the second report filed on the same vehicle. The date of last report was 07/31/2011. NHTSA id number 10416408. The solution last time was replacement of the throttle body assembly. It is pretty obvious the solutions do not match. So basically, Ford has no answer.

Two days before the incident, the steering on the car started making a noise when the steering wheel was being turned, similar to something rubbing. We visually checked and saw nothing hung up under the car. The system on this car is an electric power steering, so there was no fluid to check either. Other than the noise, the steering seemed normal except for with the steering wheel centered, there felt like the steering wheel was in a small detent. It would take just a little extra amount of pressure initially to turn the wheel. However on the 6th, I went to back the car out of the garage and the steering wheel would not turn, literally not turn with me pulling as hard as I could. After about a minute of no luck, I pulled the car straight back into the garage. At this point the steering started working somewhat, I would turn the steering wheel for what should have been a hard turn and the tire was only moving, maybe a 1/6th of a "normal". after another minute or so, it started acting like it did initially, normal turn with the noise. If the no turn or 1/6ish of a turn incidents what have occurred on a road, there would have been and accident, unquestionably. There were 4 adults who all witnessed this incident. I had the car towed to the nearest dealer on the 8th. I contacted Ford and the response was pretty much parts break, pay to fix it.

2010 Ford Taurus sho has a problem with the transmission not being in first gear after a stop. One to two second hesitation and then clunks into gear and I am able to take off. This happens approximately twice a month. The dealer has not been able to duplicate. The car also has an issue with breaking and steering. Three instances have occurred where the car pulls hard to the right upon a hard stop. Dealer was not able to duplicate. Hence no fix. All occurred before 3000 miles.
