problem #64

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 605,000 miles
We were driving on local highway when ABS and traction light came on. We then heard a grinding noise and the speedometer was jumping from 20 to 50 sporadically. When the vehicle is turned off and restarted everything is normal, but recurs shortly after driving.

ABS light came on while driving. No problem detected. Light comes on after driving for awhile and the engine gets up to normal operating temp. Mechanics tell me the ABS module is bad. I have two Windstar and this happens on both. Ford definitely has a problem with the ABS module!

Windstar 6-cyl

  • miles
ABS light on intermittently. Researched internet and found this to be all-too common. This is usually caused by a bad solder joint(s) in the ABS electronic control module located on the ABS module (hydraulic). Worst of all, Ford gets to profit from our misery, since they can sell you a new part to fix their own inferior part.

Windstar

  • 139,000 miles
The ABS light has been going on and off for no reason. I took it to a mechanic and they said the only code that was affecting the light was the front right tire speed sensor which we replaced and the code went away. The cruise control dosent work and the light comes on and breaking is sometimes much more difficult when slick/wet and liable to cause an accident. The mechanic told me my vehicle was included in the Ford recall from 6/2012 relatingn to ABS light and diagnostic trouble code C1185

Front of vehicle started grabbing. I checked the codes and found C1185. I have read that this is a common problem with the ABS modules with the Windstar. I would like to file my complaint and have a recall for Ford to fix the problems with the ABS.

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 159,300 miles
ABS light continues to come on intermittently. No immediate affect on braking until used hard. Then rear brakes lock-up immediately. Sliding doors will not open using overhead control. Locks do not 'un-lock' when unlock is depressed. Child protective door locks are off, and still the sliding doors will not operate from inside handle. The only automatic function that operate on the sliding doors is the 'close door' button on both sides. Exterior handles do not open the door until the locks are manually/physically forced into the unlock position. Dashboard lights and gauges go out-of-control randomly. Ie: speedometer goes from 0 - overspeed, tachometer does the same as well as fuel and temp.

The ABS light goes off and stay on until shutting off the engine. It is very intermittent, on winter time rarely goes off, summer time is on most of the times, it looks like the problem is more persistent with the heat. Brakes work well I don't see any difference.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Windstar. N 4/6/13, I was going 20 mph and the brakes were failing, I pulled into lentz. They repaired everything I could think of. After having my brakes completely repaired the brakes failed again. Bring it back to lentz, with thousands of apologies and promises to fix it right. They repaired even more of the brake system.. the brakes ABS system light still comes on, brakes seem to not work ok. So I bring to Ford to have the recalls checked. They said that my master cylinder was leaking again and explained to me that this was a recall from before, and that they already installed a jumper and fuse for it so it wont fail or leak. But apparently it's still leaking and faulting out. So I asked them to fix it, they would not. I called corporate, and they will not budge. Ford will not fix it because they claim it has already been worked on that particular recall and they said they don't "redo" recall work. So that being said they told me, I would be safe driving it like this. That it's no biggie and it wont hurt anything if brake fluid is leaking a little tiny bit by the switch. I am a single mom with kids. I bought it then I put over 2650 dollars so far into this stupid van. Everything has gone wrong. From front axle to brakes, to no heat, electrical crazy stuff going on. Of course they never find it or it apparently don't act up when they test it all. I'm terrified to drive this van. Absolutely terrified of it. They even told me to "be careful, as it may catch on fire by the master cylinder" after telling me they don't redo old recalls!! I guess they put a bracket kit on the front subframe as part of recall but now it has more play in the wheel, I feel like I have to really steer to keep it in between the lines. They should fix my cylinder ABS problem no matter what its their manufacturing defect.! tons of other safety problems with this van too.
