Failure of internal hydrolic pump for anti locking brake system. Part costs over $1000 not including labor per dealership. As cost is prohibitive, problem not fixed causing loss of anti locking brake system. Notified GM customer complaint department and they said nothing could be done because vehicle was out of warranty. Asked GM complaint department if they could get description of pump system made by kelsey hayes to discover why failure accured so prematurely. They said they could not give out such information. I feel this is a safety issue and some help should be given. Thank you.

On two occasions, I believe that the anti lock brakes malfunctioned, causing an increase in stopping distance and resulting in a crash. The first occurred in about 1996 when a car in front of me suddenly stopped. I applied the brakes, but was unable to stop in time. The roadway was wet at the time. I had the damage repaired at a body shop chosen by the insurance company and asked them to check the brakes also. They reported that the brakes were fine. The vehicle was owned at the time by my employer. I later purchased the vehicle from my employer and took it to a GM dealer for inspection. They reported no problems. On 8/17/99, on I-10 near phoenix, the vehicle in front of me suddenly braked and hit the vehicle in front of it. I braked hard and began to steer around, as it felt like I would not stop in time. The car in front of me bounced into in the direction I was steering and I collided with the rear of that vehicle.

I have had Ford and monroe dealers look at the brakes, they dont know what is wrong with them. Some times the brakes lock up, some times the pedal goes to the floor, almost causing accidents. Twice the front rotors have turned cherry red. GMC dealer, tully GMC in nashua nh, and Chevy dealer, talarico in milford nh, refused to investigate the problems. Brake pads and rotors need work just 4,000 miles after being done already. I feel this is dangerous, and no one knows how to fix it!!

Front right brakes began to squeak, within 5 days took vehicle to franchise brake repair shop (Firestone) and then to GMC dealer for brake service/inspection. Result: Premature wear of passenger-side brake pads/gouged rotor beyond repair. Driver-side rotor damaged but serviceable. Additionally, Firestone's opinion is passenger-side calipers may be damaged, and that both rotors should be replaced.
