On 8/4/10, while moving in reverse in my driveway, my 2001 GMC Sierra's brake line ruptured causing complete brake failure due to corrosion on the steel brake line. The vehicle is 10 years old and only has 29,000 miles on it. It was rarely driven in the winter when there was snow, ice or salt present. As of 9/5/10 the truck remains parked and the lines have not been replaced. When the failure happened, I conducted research to find this failure to be a pending investigation for a possible recall. NHTSA action number : PE10010. I only want GMC to take responsibility for the cost of the repair or reimbursement for the cost of the repair that is caused by this defect. But I'm pretty sure a recall on 6.3 million vehicles will not be issued with GM's ipo set to be released. So, I, the GM consumer, will have to wait.

Brake lines under driver's side door burst, spilling fluid in driveway while parking truck. Upon inspection, all brake lines have rusted/rotted. Truck is sitting in driveway, undriveable. Thank god it happened in driveway, not on hills we live on. Used E-brake to stop.

Sixty miles into return trip home while braking for stop light from about 55-60 mph, brake pedal went straight to the floor and truck would not stop. Brakes worked fine earlier and failed without warning. Luckily I applied the brakes early missing a vehicle that was already stopped for the light by less than one foot. Brake fluid is leaking from severely corroded brake lines underneath the driver's side door. All brake lines are badly corroded and all need replacing. All of the truck's metal brake lines are recommended to be replaced.

Safety about GMC Sierra truck ABS braking system. There is a recall on this truck for ABS activation when stopping and could cause a crash. I experienced this and they did replace or clean the wheel sensor and test for proper operation. Now I have the same problem but they will not correct it. This is not acceptable to me for I will be towing a trailer and depend on my brakes to stop. They want me to take it to the dealer at my expense. I told them that I disconnected the sensor and the brakes work fine. I believe that they correct this and also I did have a brake line failure where I had to pay them $700 for the replacement of my brake lines. I am furious about the braking system and cheap building of our cars and trucks. Do investigate this and reply.

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra C1500. While driving at speeds of 3 mph and attempting a U-turn, the brakes locked. He attempted to apply the brakes but they would nt engage as he proceeded to crash into a nearby tree. He was not injured and the vehicle sustained substantial front end damage. The crash was reported to his insurance company. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 117,323 and the current mileage was 117,357.

Corroded brake line on my 2001 GMC pick up truck. The repair shop said they have seen alot of this. I just read in the boston herald about this problem. I was going down a hill and the brake peddle went all the way to the floor and the truck did not stop. This repair was $350.

Do not know if it was the front or rear brakes that were lost when driving. Drove carefully to dealership and had a corroded brake line replaced that had a hole or holes in it.

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck. During early March of this year, my brakes failed due to rust and corrosion on the brake lines. Two of the steel brake lines under the truck were so corroded with rust that the brake fluid ruptured the lines when I applied the brakes, and poured out on the ground. My braked pedal went to the floor. I had zero brakes without warning. It was only by sheer luck that I was traveling very slowly when this occurred, and I was able to stop using the emergency brakes. I was in the town of renovo, and could have killed someone due to this mishap. We live on a mountain, and tow a trailer with horses. This could have been a complete disaster under other circumstances. There was absolutely no warning that the brakes would soon completely fail. It cost over one thousand dollars to replace all of the brake lines on our truck. I have the receipt.

2001 GMC 1500 Sierra 4X4 currently has 68K miles. Vehicle speed sensors causing ABS brake activation at speeds below 12mph. Vehicle was repaired originally on 2/28/2005 for this condition. Vehicle is having a reoccurance of this currently noticed on or around 10/2009. Vehicle was brought into a dealership for diagnosis and it was diagnosed that senors are in need of complete replacement, however General Motors has stated they will not replace the sensorts and a recall has never existed for said vehicle (ref NHTSA recall# 05V379000). General Motors contact that stated this recalll did not exist. Currently, the failure has not been repaired, and old parts are available. This condition occurs 95% of the time when braking below 12mph, and makes it extremely difficult to stop the vehicle at intersections, traffic, etc. Looking for GM to correct this problem before any accidents or injuries occur. Also parking brake has never sufficiently held vehicle as it gets depressed to floor and vehicle still can roll, promoting a hazard to others in the vicinity if the transmission lock gives out.

The incident started when the owner of repair service center backed my vehicle out of his garage, upon applying the brakes the entire brake system failed. This failure resulted in the vehicle rolling onto a major roadway. Fortunately, this brake failure did not result in a collision with pedestrians, fixed object, or other vehicles which could have resulted in deaths and injuries. Upon inspection of the brake system, it was discovered that two steel brake lines had ruptured and caused the brake fluid to escape profusely thus brake failure. These two ruptured lines were located next to the ABS electro-hydraulic control unit. These steel brake lines had excessive rusting and rotting. The entire steel brake line system showed evidence of severe rusting or rotting. To correct this extremely hazardous and dangerous condition I had the entire steel brake lines replaced. I have secured the original, failed brake lines. I'd appreciate an investigation into this serious condition to prevent potentially dangerous collisions which could result in injuries and/or death. An investigation should also be conducted to determine if there is a possibility of defective material and/or design.

Brakes failed, brakeline rusted and leaked fluid, pedal went to the floor. Could not stop truck, emergency brake did not work either, had to downshift to the lowest gear, went of the road to avoid cars in front of me, took 200 yards to stop. Scary feeling. Never had a brakeline fail like that.

I bought a GMC Sierra C-1500 pickup truck, new in 2001. In Sept '05, the ABS light came on & a humming noise could be heard even after the ignition was turned off. The odometer was at 50,000 miles, at that time. The problem was the ebcm shorted-out and needed to be replaced. Now, 31,000 miles & 3 years later (81,000 total miles), it shorted-out again & needed to be replaced. The cost of this part alone is $1,000 (+ over $200 installation). That part isn't even subjected to normal 'wear & tear' like brakes, because it's not a moving part. It's a computer module that controls the anti-lock brakes, that is vital in case of emergency braking, which luckily I haven't needed to use. I don't know if the ebcm (part) is defective itself or if something else is causing it to short out, but I don't think this part should fail, this often. Requiring a third ebcm in 7 years, in my opinion, is unacceptable. I've contacted GMC & I don't think I received a legitimate reason for the failure of the part'just a poor excuse. His reasoning was that my vehicle is 7 years old & has 81,000 miles, that it's acceptable for a computer module, which controls the anti-lock brakes (a safety issue), to malfunction & need replacing twice. That 'reason' was totally absurd in my opinion. Mileage shouldn't come into play because it's an electronic part not a moving part. If they want to justify it because the truck is 7 years old'.it was the part that failed, not the truck & it was only 3 years old and only 31,000 miles had been added, when it shorted-out again! so, they shouldn't even be talking about the vehicle itself'just the faulty part which happens to control a very important safety feature!

The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the ECM in the vehicle emits invalid data into the system. As a result, miscommunication in the hydraulic unit occurs while applying hydraulic pressure to all four tires. NHTSA campaign id number 06E050000 (service brakes, air) was referenced. The failure mileage was 123,007.
