Sierra 1500

  • 64,150 miles
This issue relates with a recent recall with the GM brake system (NHTSA campaign number: 19V645000 / GM recall number: N192268490). The recall fix by GM fails to fully fix the problem as additional repairs are required to make the vehicle safe again. The incident began when going down a hill at low speed. A message came on the dash that said "service brake assist" and the brakes seemed to lose power which required the driver the use both feet to push down on the brake pedal to prevent a crash into the car in front. The brakes regained normal function for a while then a few miles later the same problem occurred. This went on for for a while longer until the need to use both feet to achieve full stopping power was permanent. Driver pulled over and, through an internet search, discovered many others had the same problem and a recall had been issued. An appointment was made with a local GM dealer and the vehicle was dropped off for repair. The GM dealer called the driver and informed him that additional repairs, beyond the recall instructions, were required for the vehicle's brakes to function adequately and safely. This included replacing the booster pump, brake pads, to "reline the frt brakes as needed."

I came up to an intersection, pressed my brakes, and they were hard to press causing me to run the red light and almost hit another vehicle. Even if a part fails, this should not be an outcome. Brake petal so hard you can't get the vehicle stopped.

Breaks do not work at low speed in reverse, break pedal goes all the way to the floor and excessive pressure must be applied in order to stop vehicle, this is extremely unsafe due to low visibility when backing the vehicle.

Brakes suddenly lock and the peddle to break gets really stiff that when im trying to brake it does not work... I have had this issue happen to me twice already, I was able to avoid an accident because I used the emergency brake, , I was out of town and when I was arriving to the hotel my brake peddle locked and could not brake the parking concrete stopper prevented me from hitting thr building, I noticed that when I shut off tht truck and turn it back on thry work normal again and I am able to brake just fine this happens randomly, I can be on my normal routine for a month then all of a sudden the brake peddle gets stuck, , it looks like its a software glitch like the stability track turning on when its not supposed to, other people are having these issues with these trucks, please investigate..

At slow speeds and brake pedal requires immense force (~200lbs) to press and engage brakes. Significant grinding can be felt in the pedal. This often requires emergency brake usage to stop. Condition is intermittent. Occasionally happens in reverse occasionally forward with wheel turned or without.

While backing slowly on a boat launch ramp, petal was depressed all the way and the tow vehicle did not stop immediately. Felt as though the petal was to the floor, vehicle rolled up to several feet before stopping. Towing roughly 6800 lb. Which is within specification limit for this specific vehicle.

All happened same day. Was 8 hours from home and pulling into parking spot and the brakes went to the floor 3 times. Has not occurred since. But when that happened the air started blowing warm and the service driver assist came on briefly. Still air is blowing warm and the service driver assist comes on. Have never had a check engine light come on. I am having it checked out this week.
