Terrain 4-cyl

  • 23,970 miles
On 10/17/2013 my wife experienced a sudden acceleration while pulling into a parking space at our local walgreen's pharmacy. As she was pulling into a parking space in front of the pharmacy the car kept moving forward slowly although she was pressing on the brake pedal as hard as she could. The car crawled up the concrete curb stop slowly and hit the steel pipe bollard placed in front of the curb stop to protect the walkway front of the store. No injuries occurred to my wife, no one was on the walkway at the time. Only damage was to the bollard (bent over) plastic bumper, grill and right front fender of the car. Bollard and a trash receptacle brought the car to a stop. This is the second time this occurred. The first occasion was about a year ago when I was driving on a neighborhood residential street approaching a stop sign. As the car was slowing down and I was pressing on the brake pedal the car kept moving forward with the brakes being fully applied. Could hear the engine straining at an increased RPM. I lifted my foot off the brake pedal and jammed it down hard again and the car came to a stop at the stop sign with the engine in normal idle. In the three years we have owned this car these are the only occasions the problem has occurred.

Approximately around the high 4X, xxx miles the engine started giving me extended cranking issues. It would crank for 4-5 seconds and not start at all or start but idles really low like its going to die. I has done this countless amount of times, even caught it on video numerous times only because every time I bring it in for the starting issue I always get there is nothing wrong with your vehicle, have a nice day. It gets really frustrating when the wife and I daily drive it and it happens about 2-3 per week. At times when I turn off the car, it sounds like its still on for a few seconds and than turns off like when a building loses power. On another hand, over a month ago the dealership checked the oil and said I was really low on oil. But theirs still nothing wrong with my vehicle they claim. And to make things worse the seatbelt sensor came on and stays on a few hours after I picked up my vehicle from the last visit to get it checked for this cranking problem. This is the worse vehicle I ever owned. I would not recommend the Terrain to anyone. Oh yeah, I also brought it too 2 different GMC/Chevy dealers with no help from them at all. This is the last time I'll buy a GMC/Chevy vehicle - built very poorly.

Camshaft position sensor error occurred. GMC has issued a recall for model year 2011 Terrains, but not 2010. Same issue is affecting that model year as well. (voluntary recall 11195 & 11195A).

The contact owns a 2010 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently to 30 mph. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer eleven times in relation to the problem. The fuel injector and timing chain were both replaced twice. In addition, the engine consumed a large amount of oil within a short period of time. The technician recommended the engine be replaced. The vehicle was currently at the dealer for repair. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
