On December 26, 2022, my son and I were on our way to Indianapolis, Indiana from Anderson, Indiana. When we were about to the end of going through Ingalls, I noticed that my check engine light went off. I pulled over within 3 to 5 miles within notification of my engine light going off at a gas station. I turned off my Terrain, so my son could look under the hood to see if anything was amiss and I turned my Terrain back on hoping that the check engine light would go off. It didn't and the engine sounded normal. We proceeded to go on to Indianapolis driving on. Everything was fine until right before we reached 30th and German Church Rd. I started hearing what I thought was a clicking/ticking sound, so I turned off my radio to confirm it. As I turned down the radio to confirm the sound, my dashboard let me know that my engine was losing power and a stabilitrack warning. I immediately pulled over to check to see if my serpentine belt broke. It hadn't. My oil read at 29% and no other lights were on besides the check engine light. NOTHING letting me know that I was losing oil. A friend of mine came to listen to it and thought maybe my alternator was going out. I attempted to drive it to a garage that was maybe at most 2 miles away. It started right back up but lost power again less than a block away from where I stopped. I pulled it into a parking lot to get it off the street. I had it towed from the parking lot to a garage to have it looked at and I was shocked to find out that I was out of oil even though the dash read 29% before needing another oil change. NO OTHER WARNING that I was losing oil. The mechanic notified me to let me know that I had a blown engine. I'm furious with GMC right now because I had overheard approximately a couple months ago while getting my oil changed that GMC engines were going out left and right and now it's happened. to me. I don't even want to think about what could have happened to my son and I if on the interstate being very short notice

My engine Burns a very large amount of oil rapidly. I have to replace oil in the engine at least twice a week. I went to the Automotive Service Center and they indicated that my timing chain need to be readjusted and that the engine itself between the year of 2010 and 2017 on gmc terrains have major problems/ defects in with the engine. I was driving on the highway and the car slowed down I barely could get any acceleration. I then had to get off of the expressway to avoid collisions. I took my car to the shop several other times for automatic brake system problems and stability track problems. I had censors replacedvand stability track problens. They wrre fixed but the automotive technicians indicated they the oroblems will happen again. Soon after that my engine was low of oil again within the matter of two or three days. The problem (massive oil consumption) continues to happen. I have investigated the problem and I found that there were engine class action lawsuit on the GMC 2014 Terrain because of the engine problems. I need to know how I can get my problems with the engine in particular resolved so that I can move forward and not worry about being involved in a motor vehicle accident when I drive to work each day.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the oil gauge failed to display when the oil level was low. The contact heard a rattling noise coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that oil had to be added between 800 - 1,000 miles. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who replaced the PCV valve however, the failure persisted. The vehicle then displayed a timing chain code. The contact took the vehicle to two different dealers who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the piston rings had failed. The contact was informed that the timing chain, pistons, and pistons rings needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 68,500.

This vehicle has major engine problems. It stalls, bucks shakes violently when stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. It does this when put in reverse. It was so bad that the engine and transmission was replaced. 2 days after that it was doing the exact same thing. It's a defect in the engine design that I found out between 2010 and 2015 GMC terrains. This thing stalls on the highway, loses power. Goes into reduced power mode check engine light comes on. Burns oil like it's drinking it. This thing is going to get somebody killed. I did research and found at least 50 other people complain about the exact same thing. People were changing sensors and everything else on the engine with no help whatsoever. It's a defect in GMC's engine design on these models.

I bought my used 2014 GMC Terrain in September of 2021 from a GMC dealership. Not long after owning it, I checked the dipstick and the oil was too low to register. I then take it to the dealership for investigation where they tell me we need to perform an oil consumption test. After the first check in after 1,000 miles they said it was within its normal consumption levels and to come back in another thousand miles. A few days later I decided to check the dipstick again for myself to see the oil level was below the dipstick again. Since then I took it to another dealership where they once again performed an oil consumption test and said that my car did have a problem as it was consuming around 2 quarts for every 1,500 miles. Not wanting to pay exorbitant prices for them to repair it I have just been checking the oil level every 500 miles and filling it back up. I have heard numerous problems that occur when the oil gets too low such as permanent engine damage, stalling, and more. I am aware of this issue but many are not and it could cause very serious accidents for those who also have this problem

I have had the same oil consumption and car stalling problems as everyone else. When the oil gets low after a few hundred miles, it stalls out when starting from a stopped position. It goes through a quart of oil at less than 1,000 miles. Add me to the list that says they need to recall the 2014 Terrains since they have the same problem as the 2011 to 2013 Terrains that were recalled.

February 3, 2022 I noticed a slight stutter in my 2014 GMC Terrain (approximately 111,346 miles) when accelerating after stopping at a stop sign. When stopped at the next stop sign the stutter happened again, and I aborted an attempt to make a left hand turn onto a 2 lane highway. Once the highway was safe again to make a left turn I attempted the turn, and the car died in the middle of the highway. There were no check engine lights, or other warning lights on at the time of the stutter, or when the car died. I was able to restart the car (no warning lights once restarted) and continue driving to my destination to drop my child off at school, and return home. Upon arriving home I researched the issue, and found similar complaints regarding the same issue of 2014 Terrains either stalling while driving, or having complete engine failure while traveling highway speeds. Upon further research I also found numerous complaints regarding unusual oil consumption. In 5 days I added 5 qts of oil, and took it to a repair shop February 10, 2022 where they added 4 quarts of oil and diagnosed a rear main seal (again no check engine light, or oil pressurewarning light). Bottom of my car is currently covered in oil from the massive leak. I purchased the vehicle used, and have changed the oil on the recommended schedule with 5-30 synthetic blend oil.

I purchased this vehicle in October. Had the oil changed end of October. Yesterday took it in to the shop and they told me there was no oil in it, that it burned through 5 quarts of oil in two and a half months! I search this problem and found out! That there was a class action lawsuit for 2010-2013 that was settled for this problem!!!! Not the 2014. Please issue a recall the problem is the same with the 2014. I cannot afford to put a new motor in this-??the mechanic said I got lucky it didn-??t blow up. He said that is the only fix that can fix the burning of the oil.

Around 76k miles the vehicle started to stall, the engine completely stopped while in drive. The vehicle was burning oil and had terrible gas milage prior to stalling incidents. The first time it stalled was at an intersection with a traffic light, when we went to slow down the engine completely shut down. My infant daughter was in the car with me and it was terrifying. We would have been hit had the light not been turning red. After that we recognized that it typically stalled after starting the car and attempting to accelerate. At times it happened when pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street and I would loose engine power. This was extremely scary due to not being able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. I had to put my flashers on and roll to the side of the road where I could restart the car. The engine ran really loud and rough when the issue first started and even after repairs the engine is still loud when first starting from cold. After time the issue persisted and I noticed that after the first start and stall if I revved the engined hard it did not stall a second or third time. Prior to that there were times the vehicle stalled 2-3 times after first start. The first time I took it to a garage (79k) there was a check engine light on and they diagnosed a sensor that needed to be changed. The problem persisted after the sensor was changed. I contacted another local garage who said there are known engine issues with this make and model and they wouldn't touch it and suggested taking it to the dealer. The dealer said they are familiar with this issue and the engine needed to be rebuilt for $4500. This was quite a shock given the car only had 88k miles on it at the time we contacted the dealer. After the dealer repairs the engine no longer stalls. Recalls on this model only go through 2013. The date on my radio resets to October 13, 2013 when the battery is disconnected so it seems this issue is persisting in models not included in the lawsuit.
