My dashboard is cracked in 2 places after already being replaced by the dealership once. The dashboard was cracked when the vehicle was purchased and now it is cracked again in the same exact spot. My service airbag light is also on.
- Baton Rouge, LA, USA
The dashboard which is made of hard plastic is cracking near and touching the passenger air bag. It will cause shards of thick hard plastic to be projected into the passenger compartment if the airbag deploys. Also large pieces will also be interjected into the passenger compartment in the case of any accident because they are loose.
- Olathe, KS, USA
The contact owns a 2009 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16V381000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
- Dallas, TX, USA
The dashboard is cracked around the airbag. In the event of an airbag deployment the sharp shards of plastic could puncture the airbag or the shards of plastic could become projectiles.
- Linwood, KS, USA
Dashboard is failing extensively due to an unknown manufacturing defect. Areas of failure include up to and around the portion which says "air bag" which is creating a significant safety concern. Plastic fragments are loose on cracked areas of dash. This presents a possible high-speed projectile hazard if air bag(s) are deployed and catch on loose/cracked areas during deployment. Vehicle has not been involved in any incidents. Dashboard surrounding airbag cracked while the vehicle was stationary and continues to develop additional cracks as time goes on. Finally, dashboard is vibrating while driving at highway speeds causing additional cracks and fragments of plastic to come loose. Discussions with mechanics indicate that entire dash may come loose and fall in to drivers or passenger under normal driving conditions, causing loss of control in addition to possible air-bag projectile hazard. Two local GMC dealers indicated that this is not a covered repair and that the consumer should replace the dash on their own if there is a safety concern by the consumer.
- Universal City, TX, USA
A major problem with dashboard cracking in several places is a safety concern if air bags are deployed. GM will not recognize the defect. Many complaints and no recall issued for this safety concern. Dashboard is cracked in several places directly behind airbag.
- Boerne, TX, USA
Dashboard is cracked in upper left corner of the passenger side airbag. The cracked part is very sharp and will likely year the airbag if it deploys durning a crash, which is a huge safety concern. Also, it seems very brittle and the force of the airbag deployment could send flying shrapnel into passengers faces.
- Farmington, AR, USA
Dash cracked on corner of where the passenger airbag is located. This is a huge safety concern. I'm afraid that it will either prevent the airbag from deploying in a crash, or tear the airbag upon deployment, or worse, shoot projectiles of dash toward my children who are passengers.
- Fayetteville, AR, USA
The top cover of the dashboard has a crack on the hump above the instrument cluster and on the passenger side. I am concerned that this will affect the performance of the air bag...god forbid that the vehicle may be involved in an accident and the air bag does not deploy correctly. That could be the difference between life and death. The vehicle is a 2009 GMC Yukon, with all the technology and advances GM has made, I would assume that a safety issue of this degree would warrant a recall or immediate attention and responsibility from GM.
- Fresno, CA, USA
Concern about the safety during a collision or airbag deployment from sharp plastic exposed due to the cracks in the dash cutting the airbag or shards of plastic becoming projectiles potentially causing injury to occupants.
- Katy, TX, USA
The air bag light is on, and steering sound.
- Tulsa, OK, USA
February 2014 I had noticed 3 cracks on my dash board, 2 of them being right by the passenger airbag. I have contacted GM to fix the issue before anything bad happens with the air bags. They want me to pay $900 to have this fixed but it is a safety issue. I am in constant worry if my air bags will deploy at any point in time due to the cracks. Or if I happen to get into an accident will my air bags not deploy or will there be a defect in the air bags due to plastic cutting the air bag open on deploy. GM is very aware of this problem as I know 500 cases already with this same issue as they all have the same concern.
- Jacksonville , FL, USA
Crack near passenger airbag, above steering wheel and another starting to form near the initial crack on the passenger side. Called GM customer service and they pretend they have never heard of the problem, though there are hundreds comments on forums/groups online. I am concerned about mine and my family's safety in the event of a collision where the airbags may deploy. Will they deploy properly" will the shards of plastic from the faulty dash cause further injury" GM needs to issue a recall for these vehicles and do the right thing for their consumers by repairing the dashes.
