I have 199 Honda Accord. It had enough issues catalytic converter and few other parts where i wud have spent more than 2 K. Then i had this clear coat coming off issue. Its pretty embarrassing to drive around, and paint jobs are very expensive. And on top of it i also have Transmission issue, i have no idea how these cars get such good rating? Any one know? and if this is one of the best car then how good are other cars.

another annoying issue i had with this Accord v6 lx is the Steering, which is pretty tight compared to other cars. When i drove a v4 accord i felt more comfortable driving that.. I wont buy a Honda anymore ( bought a odyssey in 2003 thought). So much so for reliability.

I, too, have a dark green 1999 Honda Accord with peeling clearcoat. I bought the car new in November 1998 and it looked good for many years, but in the last 2 years, the clearcoat peel has spread like a disease. Like most others have said, the peeling is located mainly on the roof and the trunk. The car only has 97000 miles on it and I am disappointed that it looks so terrible and is only going to get worse. I bought a Honda because they have such an excellent reputation, but their painting "ain't worth a flip"!

When the problem first appeared, Honda tried telling me it was from bird poop and the rain...too bad my car was garaged. They did however supply me with several small bottles of touch up paint. When it began to worsen, they offered to pay 25% of the cost to have it repainted at the dealership, which wanted a several thousand...ouch!!! Now it's so bad, and they won't cover any. Obviously this was a big problem with the "black current pearl" color cars (I have seen several others on the road with the same problem), and they should have recalled it. I have one good door, that had been hit the first week I bought the car and it must have been fixed with "good" paint. That just goes to show you that the original paint WAS BAD!!! Thanks a lot for nothing Honda. Bought three in the past...and zero in the future. Perhaps I should leave my car parked outside your dealerships to warn your potential customers!!!

The paint has deteriorated on this car over the past few years. At this point its completely embarrassing to drive. It still drives good but this car has been a real lemon. The transmission went out at around 100K miles and I had to re-build it and now its going out again at 180K miles. The A/C had to be replaced. The catalytic converter had to be replaced, radiator, all the motor mounts, and alot of other expensive repairs over the years. And now the paint is completely shot which I hear will cost between $1000 to $2000 for a good paint job. I was a loyal Honda buyer, this was my 4th Honda. I will never buy another one again. I've had to replace the A/C on every Honda I've owned. I guess its time to discover a new brand of car!

I am really disgusted at the paint job on my accord. We have had this car since it was brand new, 3 miles were on it when we bought it. It has been garage kept and washed and waxed regularly. The only problem is the same problem that most of the raisan, blue or green accords have and that is the clear coat comes off, turning a whitish color. Then eventually the paints is shed leaving the bare metal to rust. I have taken the problem to the local Honda dealership where they said, all we can do is give you 250 dollars towards having the repair done at our body shop. That was only after the Honda REp came from american Honda. The cost to repair just the flawed part is well over 1700 at the Honda dealership. From my experience with paint, the whole car will need to painted, not just one or two parts. Like most everyone else, it starts with the top of the car and gradually spreads on the top. The trunk is just now starting to show signs of damage. I have seen several MUCH MUCH worse than mine. As a matter of fact, when I went to the dealership, a friend of mine, whohas a 98 green one, went with me and we showed them both cars. By the way, Mine is blue. I think that is the only reason why they even offered 250 to help the cost of painting it. If anyone has luck with this problem, please let me know. I dont know about you but with the economy the way it is, I can't afford to have the car painted anytime soon.

I called Honda's customer service number shortly after noticing that the clear coat of my green 1999 Accord was peeling and getting worse quickly. The representative's friendly professional tone changed when I mention that my problem was paint related. I was read the standard corporate line that my warranty had expired and that Honda would not address any paint related problems. I told the representative that if I was aware of Honda's "we don't care about your problem attitude" I would have never purchase my 2004 Pilot. I am the original owner of both vehicles which are regularly hand washed and waxed. I have owned may cars, both American and foreign and never experienced this type of problem. My Honda experience has not been as care free as I had hoped. My Accord has be recalled several times and the Pilot once. If Honda's corporate stance does not change I will look at other car manufactures in the future.

My once beautiful Honda developed an atrocious case of the clearcoat coming off of the roof at first. Not thinking anything of it, I noticed the problem went away when the car was wet. OK, maybe its just some extra soap or something up there that I didn't rinse off. Then, it slowly start to spread to all of the leading edges of the car, and the high spots in general. Front of the hood? Yep.

Corners of the hood just above the lights? Yep.

Right under the windows on both doors? Yep.

I called in to Honda to voice my displeasure over having peeling clearcoat, and the paint underneath being exposed, and coming off very easily from the metal. No sooner did I say what my problem was, did the person on the other end of the line say 'Your paint warranty has expired. There is nothing we can do about it."

Goes to show you that Honda knows EXACTLY what this problem is, and wont do a damn thing about it.

Never again will I buy a Honda product. At this point, I'm about 15 minutes away from dousing it in gasoline and videotaping it for YouTube.

I have a raisin pearl (purple grayish) '99 Accord. The clear coat is peeling. It has actually been peeling for about 1 yr. now. At first, it was bearable, but it keeps getting worse. It looks really bad. I have noticed SEVERAL other '99 Accords with the same problem. Some of the others' peeling clear coat is way worse than mine. It seems as if there should have been a recall from Honda for this problem. It doesn't matter the color of the Accord, because I've seen all different colored Accords from 1999 that have this annoying clear coat peeling problem. Other than this, I like the car.

My Accord is black and has the horrible paint delamination problem. I called American Honda in CA and was told to take by my local dealer and they would write a report and a regional Honda rep would review. So far no contact and the paint just gets worse. I had this happen to an Oldsmobile in 1990 and GM said take it wherever you want and we will pay 100%. This is the way Honda should be because unless this is resolved fairly I will never consider another one and I will share the POOR customer care Honda gave me. I have started noticing many cars like mine, so the problem is across the board. COME ON HONDA, DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
