I truly think there was issue or defective paint for those make and models. I think Honda should have a recall and make it right!! For the company should stand behind their vehicles 100%. Great customer service will make company more respected.

All I can say is that I am very disappointed and angry that Honda did not admit to the defect with the clear coat fading and now chipped partly away on lower hood area. Its spreading like cancer on the hood area just recently this year. Its disgusting looking and makes people think twice about even having a Honda to begin with the clear coat starting to fade, whitish most noticeable against the sun shining on it. Honda refuses to fix a the defect problem. I had preventive maintenance and 3-4 month waxes done at the car spa car wash in WPB which they use the best Meguires Wax. The entire sides, trunk and Roof is in good shape as it should be with the care taken in having my car waxed exceeding the requirements. Also with preventive maintenance on car it is mechanically in good to excellent condition.! The hood is the only area which also lacks the required heat shield underneath it. This oxidation and fading of clear coat is not caused by age of vehicle as stated by Honda but by a defect known to have been caused by poor application of base paint and primer as well as clear coat on most Honda cars from 1998 to at least thru 2007 based on 100's of postings and complaints.

Last year, the clear coat on my car started to bubble up in places. Then white spots starting appearing in differnt areas, and the paint in some areas has completely come off. The vehicle looks horrible. Before that, the vehicle was worth $5,295. Because of the paint conditioning, the insurance company lowered the value of my car by $1,700. So I lost $1,700 in the value of the car and the cost of repainting is in the thousands also making it about a $4,000 + loss for me.

I am extremely perturbed that this is my only brand new vehicle and I have kept it in excellent condition, only to see the paint/clear coat look so despicable. I am embarrassed to be seen in it. I cannot afford a replacement paint job and feel Honda Corporation should pay for another paint job!! I have seen Honda's older than mine still with respectable paint jobs..........

My car looks like trash. If it had stayed looking in good condition, it should have lasted me a long time, but it just looks awful. It is embarrassing to drive!

I always loved our Hondas. We have two of them. This car runs great, but it's now embarrassing to drive - the paint looks awful on the roof, hood and trunk. I talked to the dealership and they said it's just normal wear and tear. Quote to repaint it was more than $4000. So disappointed in Honda.

I have a very nice Honda Accord that runs great, but the clear coat is peeling. The roof, trunk, alone the windows, hood, it make the car look awful. I have read many complaints about this, so it looks like a factory defect; however, Honda is not fixing it. I feel it would only be right that they pay for the repair considering we have 5 Honda vehicles. We just bought this last one a few weeks ago......now I'm wondering if it was a good choice!

We bought 2 Accords brand new, a 2000 and 2001. The 2001 fully loaded EX V6 red started losing its clear coat about a year ago (which ill post a complaint on respectively) and the 2000 Special Edition green one started losing its clear coat on the roof late 2011. When I bought the car in 2000 I purchased the automate paint protection (which now I realized I got taken advantage of) or probably delayed the clear coat going awry. Anyway, the roof on the green Accord has about 8 round spots on it where the clear coat is fading. The car runs great otherwise, but I'm pretty sure its going to start spreading to other parts of the car. I feel Honda should cover this defect, because, while the car is 12 years old, the quality of the paint is something that should be rarely compromised. I feel a class action lawsuit is definitely in order to have Honda fess up to their defect. Would the BBB help at all?

I have a 2000 Honda Accord v6 lx coupe - with black paint. I love this car - but I am thinking of getting rid of it because of the multiple spots on the car that has peeling clear coat which makes the car look awful.

Zero luck with Honda claiming ANY responsibility. This WAS the top of the line Accord LX fully loaded. Paint started to go in 2009 BAAD. great car other than paint. I would be GLAD to join ANY class action suit against Honda.

Just a shame is all... I bought this Accord new in 2000 knowing I would hold onto this car and eventually hand over to kids once they hit college age. As planned - mechanically the car is safe and sound, and daughter is finishing up High School. Not planned is the DEFECTIVE paint job so many other Accord owners have experienced as well... Paint is so bad even I'm a little embarrassed to claim as my car.

This car has been garage kept for the 1st 8 years of it's life,and waxed approx. 3 times a year. Year 9 through present the car has been outside in the weather. The clear coat peeling problem is worse on the roof and trunk lid. The hood is still ok,but all top horizontal surfaces of doors and rear quarter panels are not peeling yet,but are starting to look frosted instead of clear. This car only has 70,000 miles on it and mechanically is in excellent condition. Body shops around the area have told me that Honda uses a thin clear coat compared to other auto manufacturers,and it has been a problem. I have never seen a recall from Honda for this problem. It kind of reminds me of a 1991 Ford truck I had,which lost all of it's paint on horizontal surfaces down to the primer. Maybe Honda should just paint their cars with Rustoleum and probably get better paint life.

The clear coat started to peel and once it started it got really bad!! It was a embarrassing especially when I paid $10,300 for that car in 2007!!

Paint peeling off outside review mirrors. Just recently clear coat is pealing off of trunk and rear bumper. Car as been waxed and polished regularly over the years of ownership and was purchased brand new. I can only imagine how much worse it will look in the future judging by past complaints of clear coat failure on older models. Honda needs to correct their paint issues as my new civic has paint issues as well.

My 2000 Honda Accord's clear coat is peeling everywhere. Started at the trunk and spread to roof and hood and continues to peel. I need to know how to contact Honda to report this problem and to find out if they are taking any responsibility for this defect. I would like to trade my car in soon but certainly not the way it looks. Other than the peeling the car is great. Any help would be most appreciated

Fairly disappointed with the clear coat already peeling as of 2 years ago. I have a 98 Chevrolet that still looks almost as good as the day I bought it, especially with a coat of wax. As for the Honda its multicolored from the clear coat peeling and the fading.

I am so dissapointed in Honda. There are so many people out there with this problem. I spent 18,000$ on a car only to have it look like sh*t less than 8 years later. Come on Honda !!! It is time to make it right. Is there any new information on the class action lawsuit? This is so obviously a manufacturing defect.

Called Honda which gave me more departments to call. They finally basically replied that older cars will age. No help or responsibility from them. It was like a skin disease on this car. I am paying $561. this month to have a paint job done all over it that Honda is responsible for. This really hurts their reputation.

Cmon Honda, I love everything about this car. The body/shape is timeless, probably one of the best looking Accords ever built with the exception of the newer body styles. BUT THE PAINT IS AWFUL. Almost every single Black/Blue/Teal Honda of that Gen (98-02) has the same problem with the clear coat peeling. It looks like tiger stripes, like someone tried to buff the car with sandpaper. This is a silly problem that only runs a mm deep into the vehicle that should not be there.
