Recently I purchased a used Honda Accord from a local Dealer. Having previously owned a 1998 Accord with a manual transmission I was generally quite pleased with this car's reliability. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying a second Honda Accord, this time a 2001 model year equipped with an automatic transmission. This vehicle almost immediately presented some fairly significant problems with the transmission in as little as 4 to 6 weeks of purchasing it. The most significant problems were rough shifting through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear as well as "slipping" of gears 2 & 3 leaving my tach at a whopping 4000RPM as I tried to accelerate.
The problem got progressively worse after I first noticed it on the drive to work, so I knew it wasn't long before I had to decide to take it in for service. So that's what I did. I sent it into a transmission repair shop, preparing myself for what I thought would be a hefty bill.
Well, the total cost for totally rebuilding the transmission was a whopping $2500 (CDN) for a car with only 141,000 kilometers or about 88,000 miles! I honestly thought that Honda was one of the most reputable car companies today, but this experience has left me saying "What happened to the legendary quality that everyone is boasting of??!!" This will definitely be the last Honda vehicle that I'll ever purchase!!

My 2001 Honda Accord (with 80K miles) automatic transmission shifts with a Jerk and the transmission lost power and the vehicle would not accelerate past 30-40 miles on the freeway. This is due to the defective transmission that Honda has in these vehicles. I believe this is a safety problem and a sudden loss of power while driving could put the occupants in a hazardous situation.
Honda states that the warranty has expired and refused to replace the transmission and instead wants the customer to pay for their defective design/implementation.
I would suggest to all to file a complaint at the nhtsa website - http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

Transmission was replaced with a rebuilt transmission on 12/2006. Under the class action warranty. Three years later I am experiencing the same problem. I need another transmission, something is definitely wrong with this picture.....Honda what are you doing with your parts. I always thought Honda's were supposed to be good reliable cars, Not!!! I am a mother with three children and now I do not have a car...Sure I have $4000.00 sitting around waiting for my transmission to go. Just to think I was looking at purchasing another Honda, I think I will try a Toyota. Hey Honda do you think me and all the other people that are having these problems can get a refund, because it's apparent that it's something wrong with your parts.....How about it Honda!!!!!!

The first thing I noticed was being stuck in park and having to use a screw driver to take the car out of park, then noticed my break lights were out as well. I changed the bulbs and still no tail lights. All fuses were checked and none even mention the tail lights. Come to find the break switch wasn't depressing. Part was 29.95 and a friend of mine who has worked for Honda in the past replaced it rather quickly and issue is resolved!

I am currently fighting with Honda to fix my transmission that went out under 60,000 miles. I am too tired to go into it all now but my story basically sounds like all the rest. What I am looking for is some information on my legal rights. Any lawyers familiar with Honda transmission suits and willing to hear me, please contact me. Any pissed off Honda customers who feel they have been shafted by Honda and who know where to start a class action or who have already started one, please contact me... I will definitely join or help to start it up. We all need to stand up to the injustice and it has to start somewhere. Let's get the ball rolling. Thanks for your time.

I bought this car for my daughter after graduation from college to be sure she was safe to and from work and felt the Honda Accord had a good reputation and the car would go for over a hundred thousand miles.
Well, at 55,000 miles and treating the car with baby gloves, Honda is not reputable, reliable, and making a bad product. Sad, they don't worry anymore about their reputation.
I can't consider replacing the transmission with another, to see it happen again and again as I have read. So, what is the point of replacing something with something bad.

A couple of young kids in the car, during rush hour traffic was not a pretty sight. All of the sudden, these lights started coming on. First the Maintenance Required (Okay, fine, I can handle that), and then next thing I know, after I stopped and tried to accelerate, the car "bucked like a horse" and then took off quick. I looked at the lights and it was the system light. I tried to drive to a safe place and dreading any stopping since that seemed to make the whole jerking situation worse. It was so bad the city bus was honking at me. I had my hazards on by this point and was just trying to get off to the side of the road so we would be safe. I love people who do not want to let you over....Thanks! Anyways, the car seemed to slip into different gears and the type of acceleration was horrendous and I was worried that it would jerk so badly that I would hit someone if I was following or being followed too closely. Finally, I get over and the D4 light is blinking. Did I mention that the transmission was fully replaced at 20,000 miles by a different owner? Apparently all under warranty from what I remember in early 2002. Now, it is sitting at a shop and they looked at it briefly because it was late. Very nice of them to run the diagnostics at that hour but now it won't reverse! I had the extended warranty transferred from the original owner but it expired at 100,000 miles. I have never had such I a frightening experience with a car adn the way it just took off after the first jerk. It was like the car had a mind of its own! I am glad that no one was hurt because it was pretty scary and all of the sudden. I had just driven 40 miles and was on my way back.

I took the car to Honda to be checked on and they said I needed a new transmission. After reading your web site before I went , I knew about the recall so I asked them if my car was covered. They said yes and while it was in the shop they also fixed the SRS light that was on. (Also fixed under a recall) Do you think they would have charged me if I would not have known about the recall? Thanks

so like others i have a 2001 Honda accord lx 2.3vtech automatic tranny and when I put it in drive it jerks really bad it only has 95k miles on it but I thought that the name Honda is better, will see tomorrow when I will take it to the dealer I guess

"Honda is a good car - mine is different" - I would like to say this statement for my Honda Accord 2001 LX. So far I spent 10,000.00 US dollars for my accord only for mechanical problems such as ac leakage, suspension, brakes, coolant systems, transmission system failure, engine failure etc.
I don't have anything to say about Honda Accord; but I will not buy any Honda automobiles in the rest of my life. Even if Honda Motors want to give me a car free I will not go for it.
I did not find anything good with Honda Car.
Thanks Folks.

2001 honda accord - fully loaded. Got this car to last me 250k miles. It has gone 112k and the only cost so far has been the timing belt - not because it needed it, but because it was 112k miles. Last Friday I took it in because the TCS light came on. Honda dealer suggested a new tranny. I was over the miles on the extended guarantee, but not the length of time. Honda is replacing it, no questions. I am paying for labor, but tell me an American auto maker who would do that. So the tranny is going after 112k. My Saturn needed a new tranny at 40k and I was going to have to pay $1k just to find out the problem. THE 2001Accord has a bigger engine then BMW's my same year, and as the mechanic says "this engine is bullet proof, only problem is that the tranny can not keep up with it". I'll keep it and save up over the next 100k miles and get a new tranny at 200k miles.

We have two 2001 Honda Accords in excellent condition. We have all maintenance done on time and I just my Honda and had its 60K check which cost me $960.00 and my wife took her Honda in for a 60K service and she paid $550. One week later my car started having problems starting and I took it in and the Lis DunKley told me that our Honda had a recall on our transmission. This a $5,000. job and Lisa was the one who informed us of the recall. Now, we lived in Panam City for four years and we have been bring our card th Honda and no one mention the recall expect for Lisa, When I took both cars in it was estimated to be $10,000. worth of work and it took one honest Service Adviser to tell us. We asked the other Service Adviser why he didn't mention the recall he stated it cost to much. Also, get this - right in front of us he told Lisa to keep one eye open and he knows where she lives. He was mad that she informed us of the recall. Thank God there are a few honest people.

I'm a owner of 2001, Honda Accord V6 coupe and I took my car into the Honda Dealership in Aug 05 to have the transmission replace due to that volunteer recall. The transmission was replaced at no cost to me. But, in December 2007 over the holidays I started experiencing some transmission problem again, but MAJOR ones. When I shifted my car in gear my car jerked in a "afterwards motion" and my "engine light came on" - I said not again. So, I took it to the dealership and explained to them that the transmission was acting up! - the one they put in two years ago. The dealership didn't believe my thoughts so, they did a free diagnostic test and I got a call the next day and they said "yes!" it's your transmission. They said that they will work with me so, they (the dealership) would pay for the part and I pay for the labor $1,095. I couldn't believe it - I told them that they put the transmission in two years ago and now I have to pay $1,095 to get it fix- it was unacceptable buddy. So, I called America of Honda to explain to them the problem. America of Honda was great!!! they took my call, heard my compliant, and took action. Within 1hour I got a call from American of Honda, they called the dealership to investigate, it seems that I was misquoted it would only cost me $752- according to America of Honda. To concluded, I end up paying $600 for a rebuild transmission. This is second Honda and I think my last......

ok so ill admit i looove this car. looks wise. the transmission sucked. when ill be stopped at a light, press gas and it buckles down the street and i wana flip out. i mean its a real nice car and thats the ONLY problem ive had. i bought it at a used car dealer and those cheap bastards said it was fine. i brought it to kelly honda and they ran my vin# and said the transmission was under warranty untl 90,000 miles.. i have 88. i got very lucky and now my car runs beautifully. so my advice if you have the same problem call any honda dealership and im pretty sure they'll hook you up!!

I just paid off this vehicle after I had leased it for a little over five years. Just recently my vehicle has started to jerk and it has gotten progressively worse. When I shift my car into gear after it has been parked for a while, it jerks forward very violently and when I apply my breaks it also jerks backward. If I press the gas pedal after a series of jerks, my car will make a very low humming sound and will stall. When the car finally moves, it jerks forward very violently and makes the most hideous screeching noise. Needless to say I am very disappointed with my Honda Accord. It is only five years old and has less than 80,000 miles on it, and is experiencing serious & dangerous problems. If anyone is interested in buying a used 2001 Honda Accord LX, please consider other options. It's just not worth it.

When the car has been park for awhile and I start it up and put the car in gear from park, the car jerks when I go from park to drive.

I bought my Honda accord brand new at literally zero miles. In 6 months I noticed that car was jerkign when starting. people around me thought that i am dreaming because it is a Honda.. no i was not. it eventually increased over time..now it is really annoying..dealer finally said it is transmission.. i called American Honda and they said extended warranty expired in march 2009. it is funny, some guy calls me and you can not find his number. his approach is , sir we can not anything...anyways, am collecting my service records and going to court..
