I was on the Route 80 where there are 4 lanes. I was in the left lane and
I was only going about 40 miles per hour because of the traffic. All of a sudden it felt like it was in neutral. I looked down to check and it wasn't. I could not accelerate. This happened at 6PM when everyone was coming home from work, I some how made it across
the four lanes and did not get hit and got off the road.
I had NO WARRING and no engine light came until a few mins after and then the light went off. I called the Honda dealer shipdealerships and they told me to try to drive it home. I said NO WAY. I had it towed over there. In April I had the timing belt, and all other belts replaced for $1,100 so I would not be left on the road. I keep up with all and don't wait till after the fact. Whn the dealership called they said I need a new transmission and that it would be $3,200 for a rebuilt transmission. I told them I bought the extended warranty and NOT Once did I use it and that I was very disappointed with this. Honda is supposed to go for 200,000 to 300,000 miles. I never had to replace a transmission or my family have to. Before I purchased this car NEW I looked at a new BMW and everyone told me it is expensive to maintain so I went with HONDA and I even bought the warranty. Everyone told me I was silly for buying the extended warranty.I asked them to please do something for me. and this was NOT acceptable. They were very nice at the dealership and said they will contact Honda and try for me. They were able to get Honda to pay for half. This could have been very bad if I did not get off a 4 lane road ok. This car was NOT Cheap and this is not good enough!!!
Something needs to be done. Half is better than nothing but there are to many complaints about this. I had no warning and the car did not act up before hand.

It's unfortunate that the transmission failed after only 60,000 miles. We had just replaced the transmission 60,000 miles earlier (i.e. 2 transmissions in 160,000 miles).

Pretty upset that the transmission failed as soon as the warranty was up!

- Brought my car in & dealership checked entire car, noted minor repairs to be corrected, etc. About a month later, brakes needed to get fixed and dealership looked at entire car again. Today 8/25/08, car would not shift gears properly, brought my car in to the dealership, and was told that I had a TC Clutch failure and needed to replace my transmission with a used transmission for $3671.93 (+ tax), and a new transmission would cost about $1000 more! There was no warning. Also told that the transmission would be covered for 12 months or 12K miles.
2. CALL Honda at 800-999-1009 and request a goodwill repair assistance. Cust. Rep. was nice and said manager should call me back and let me how much they will pay (averaging about half). Also told me the turnaround is about 1-2 days. Also, I think the transmission will be covered for 3 years or 36K miles.
3. CALL 212-566-4356 and give information to lawyer, who is filing a class action suit against Honda for this transmission problem!!!
The reason I bought a Honda was because I thought is was the best car, and would not need lots of expensive repairs. After reading all the complaints and problems, thinking about selling my car and getting another one after I get this problem fixed.

I was diving on the freeway yesterday when I looked down to see my RPM's in the 6000 range so I let off the gas and checked to see that I was in drive or what else might be causing the problem. After a quick check everything looked normal so I accelerated, this time my rpm's went up but not as high and it found the gear, but I couldn't pick up enough speed to pass anyone. Just enough to maintain my speed... Later last night I again was on the freeway having the same problem and then my check engine light comes on and if I even touch the gas it almost red lines. But this time it wouldn't find a gear at all so I had to pull over and wait for my dad to come pull my car home. I will be taking my car in today. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

purchased vehicle new in 01/04, transmission went bad on 10/05 with 37,000. Honda refused to pay for total cost of repairs. (No extended warranty). I had to pay for "parts about $930. Honda "paid" for labor $1,070. the said. Total cost: $2000. I wrote several letters to Honda, they refused to commit. Now I found out that there is a class action suit because customers were cut short due to bad speedometer cables in their vehicles and Honda have extended the warranty to those vehicles by 5 %. Mine falls under the 5 % which translated into 38,800 miles instead of 36,000. I knew that a brand new Honda transmission could not break at 37,000. This is my 6th. Honda and my last one!

66,000 miles, well-maintained Accord. Suddenly stopped accelerating. Just barely made it to my mechanic's shop. Won't go from 2nd to 3rd. Offered a choice: Re-manufactured transmission from Honda, $3400, re-build my transmission for $2850, or a used Transmission with 37,000 miles for $2,400. I fear the used one - what if it fails at 66,000? But I can't afford this. Went for the used one. My first Honda. Very disappointed. I have 95,000 miles on my Prius and have only changed the oil and the tires. Sticking with Toyota in the future.
