My 2002 Honda had 75,000 miles on it before being totaled by a guy who decided to run the light. So, I bought another Honda because I had such a good run on the first one, and because the Accord is supposed to be a good car! I used to brag about my Honda, not anymore. I think that the Honda people knowingly added inferior brakes to the car so that they could save money, and or make money. As a result, consumers are thinking they are getting a good car, when they are really getting a watered down version of what used to be a good car. When this car dies, I don't know what I will buy next time. I may have a look at Toyota or Nissan. What a shame!

Did a quick google search to see if anyone else was having problems with the 2008 Honda Accord rear brakes prematurely wearing....well, I found this site! After reading many of the comments, I contacted Honda Corporate office and spoke with a representative who said they are "currently looking into it." Apparently, it's been recognized as a problem and they are assigning a case manager to look into my situation. I encourage all of you to report the issue to corporate office at 1800-999-1009. It took all of 10 minutes of my time. I'm pissed that paying $175 out of my pocket for rear brakes on a practically brand new car. Come on, it's a freakin Honda!!

Brakes grinding at 14,800 miles. Took off all brakes and they ere all perfect except for rear inboard pads. They were worn to the metal. Dealer says this is normal. If you like to replace your brakes every 15,000 miles or so buy the new Accord. If not, try a different brand. I own an '08 and an '07 Accord. This is probably my last unless Honda does a recall and fixes the underlying problem. The dealer acts like it's nothing but they are just making more money off of us, and we are wasting our valuable time. I really expect better from Honda!

This is the first Honda I have owned. It was 15 months old and I had to have the brakes replaced. I put a lot of miles on a vehicle but they are long distance miles. There is definitely a problem with Honda brakes. I have never had to replace brakes so soon on any vehicle I owned. I am not hard on a vehicle. I had a 1997 Explorer with 244,000 miles on it and only replaced the brakes twice. I told Honda service that I am not happy that I will probably need to replace the back brakes every 25,000 miles and if Honda lives up to it's reputation they will do something about all of the complaints. I am going to contact the company and also nhtsa. This will be the last Honda I purchase if the problem is not fixed.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord with a little over 13,000 Miles on it. Guess what? Yup that's right, the rear brake pads are completely worn out. I had to have the front rotors re-surfaced as well. I'm going to replace the brake pads myself, because the dealership will not warranty it and I'm not going to give them the satisfaction. This is a common problem among 2008 Accords and is obviously a DEFECT. My trust in Honda has definitely wavered and I will absolutely think twice about buying a Honda again. I already purchased a Highlander instead of a Pilot, but because I could see how it was not as nicely put together as past cars. In fact, the Pilot I test drove, didn't have seats that worked! I think Honda has definitely slid. Your probably best, to stick with Toyota. Next time, buy a Camry, instead of an Accord.

WOW, car is in dealership as I type. 20000 miles rear break pads shredded down to metal fragments, front pads however look about 10 percent used, basically new. Service Salesman confirms to me that it is normal for rear pads to be changed at least 3 to 1 (If not 4 or 5) to the front pads. No problems with calipers or braking distribution, i told him every car I've ever owned - front pads are changed much more often (simple physics being the reason for this) than rear. Service Salemens again comforts me by telling me, my poor driving (Actually went in to how to stop at a red light), Organic rear pads and new IMPROVED enginering gives the pads a very short life. THE PROBLEM IS THE DESIGN IS FLAWED, IF THE FRONT PADS LOOK NEW AND THE BACK PADS ARE SHREADED IT'S A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. OWN IT HONDA AND DUE RIGHT BY YOUR CONSUMERS.

I thought it was the car next to me at first... turns out it was my rear brakes squealing with only 19.5k miles on my brand new Accord! I figured there was a problem with the calipers but the dealer told me my pads were worn evenly in the back and needed to be replaced but warranty would not cover it because it was "Normal wear and tear". I was quoted $160 parts and labor for just the rears. I called back and complained to the service manager. He told me he would make a call and call me back. He called back and said that he could use "Loyalty Bucks" or something like that and they would cut the bill in 1/2. This just happened and I will be forced to have it done through the dealership considering these pads are not available anywhere else yet. The pads alone are $80 and I don't feel like spending the time to fix my NEW CAR! I have an 86 Camaro that has had the same brake pads front and rear for 5 years now... WTF! They gave me some bull about thin brake pads in the rear... I will never buy a new Honda again.

I reported the squealing noise my car was making a few weeks ago!! Took the car in for my second oil change service (woodland Hills Honda, dealership) mention the awful noise my car was making... got a call 6 hours later telling me my rear break pads were at 0%.. And didn't recommend I leave the dealership with out servicing the issue... (How convenient right!!) I tried to argue with the service guy about the low millage on the car and how this was possible, he of course tried to confuse me with his auto jargon and got no where with them.

We left the dealer without servicing the car, tried to purchase the pads at auto zone and kragensurprise, surprise NO ONE carries the F!#%$& padsthe car is too new and Honda still doesnt make them available... They did however quote them between $36.99-$49.99 with a life time warranty; too bad Honda consumers cant purchase them, as soon as I call Honda parts department guess what? They have them for $80 no warranty, isnt that nice of them...

I called Honda Corporation, and they were so rude, all they say is wear and tear as a consumer youre responsible for that, just like tires. However as consumers we are not given options of buying the pads other than from them... Im contacting a lawyer and getting legal advice for this issue.

Well I've been battling with Sterling McCall Honda in Houston, Texas on numerous issues, one being the brakes. Sales department decent, SERVICE DEPARTMENT STINKS! In any event, I've been in contact with a guy named Todd at Honda Corporate who tells me that I'm at an impasse with Honda since they aren't taking responsibility for this problem. They know of the problem and have NO problem charging the consumer the 250+ dollars to have the brakes fixed every 12,000 miles! I've had a 1998 Ford F-150 and a Mazda 6s and BOTH cars have outlasted the brakes on this POS Accord! Brakes are squealing like a pig just like everyone else s on this website, yet Honda can't pull their head out of their rears and realize that customer service AFTER the sale of a new car is VERY important to repeat buyers! I thought I was buying quality, but instead have bought... need I say it... A LEMON! I hope Honda is reviewing this website and noticed that I used the word LEMON here, hopefully everyone else on here will exercise their LEMON law rights and file! Yes, I also got the same crap about user error, if I used my F-150 and Mazda 6s in the same manner as my Honda Accord, wouldn't you think they would have had premature brake wear too?? I was told not to compare apples to oranges on that issue... guess I'll just have to compare my car to a LEMON! It's like there's no hope for this car, can't even get aftermarket brakes from Brembo! I should have gone with a pre-owned BMW or Lexus! So lets see, bad customer service, bad service department, bad brakes... what does that equal??? It doesn't equal a repeat buyer! I guess my question to everyone that's posting on here that had their brakes REPLACED, did they change the setup at all on the brakes, or did they just replace it the same way it was set up to where it will happen again in the next 12,000 miles???

My rear brake bad wore out after only 31,000 miles. The front brakes were like brand new. Honda has a problem with the rear brakes. The car Honda gave motor trend to test had to replace the rear brakes with less than 15,000 miles. I wrote a letter to Honda. Honda refunded $75.00. I nearly do all highway driving. My 2003 had the brakes replaced at 131,000 miles. I had the brake job done at that mileage because I just thought someone should take the brakes a part and take a look at them with that much mileage for safety reasons. Everyone takes the car to the dealer because you think there is something terribly wrong with your brakes. The dealer tried to sell me a complete rear brake job. I took a look at the rotors and they looked brand new to me so I told them to just replace the pads. The rotors did not need to be machined. The dealer know about the problem and play dumb when you come in with the problem. The dealers are making a lot of money selling a dealer brake job that costs twice as much as a pad replacement at Sears. The dealer also had me wait for hours for my car and sears could have gotten it done in an hour. I lost a half days work waiting around to put to rear brake pads on my car. To try to solve the problem you can spend another $20.00 on cremtic brake pads which should last longer.

My Honda is a year old, and I'm already getting new brakes on my rear due to the fact that they are already worn out on the inside. I have 24,700 miles or so on my car, but it's still considered early for brakes...especially considering I haven't had to replace the front ones yet...knock on wood! I was told by the dealership that this was a problem with the 2008 Accords, but that it would not be covered under warranty. I had to buy my pads at the dealership, because nobody else sold them!!! (I checked 5 stores!) Since I'm pissed off beyond belief, I've decided to let the boys at a local high school put my brakes on my car instead of Honda...I refuse to pay for labor that should be free of charge):

My rear brakes were replaced today after only 21K of wear. I was handed the line just like everyone else who's had this problem that since Honda changed over to 4 wheel disc brakes the rear brake pads are thinner and therefore wear faster. I don't buy it. Why would Honda, a manufacturer whose name is synonymous with "quality," make such an error in judgment. I have never in my life had to replace REAR brakes before FRONTS. I'd never heard of such a thing until now. I'm glad I'm not the only person with this problem, however, I don't believe that Honda cares enough to do anything about it. I just needed a place to gripe. Unless they do something to fix future generations, I'll think twice before buying another Accord.

Rear brake pads gone at 26,000 miles, mostly highway driving. After dealer too $ 400 for rear pads, then brake vibration in front, another $ 200 for warped front rotors. All the reasons given by dealer were contradictions (hard braking, soft braking, slow, fast).

Wrote to Honda Americas customer service. Got a phone call. They admitted that the rear pads on 2008 accord are smaller, supposed to give off less dust to save the environment. Also they went with thinner rotors to save them money. I said it was a design flaw, and not good for future sales, I asked in writing to be on a recall list when they admit their error. I will not use the dealer next time, since I thought it would be covered by my warranty. Car was only 12 months old.

Has anyone filed a complaint with NHTSA yet?

I just did and by the way I have a little over 12K miles on the car and I can hear the metal on metal sound when driving at around 40 miles or higher. If I pumped the brakes while the noise is happening then it will stop for the rest of the drive.

I called the Dealer where I bought the car from and was told that 1. it's not covered under warranty and 2. Honda put smaller pads on the rear because people complained about the noise the last model made.

Seriously no one can afford to have to get their dam brakes done every 12K miles; especially now during these hard economic times. So I filed a complaint just about a few mins ago and is hoping that others have filed similar complaints ahead of me.

If you want to file a complaint please go to: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

The more people complain the further they'll look into the issue.

WTF Honda cant make brakes that last more than 35,000 miles. I heard the noise coming from my rear brakes, but could not convince myself that the brakes were bad (rear brakes should last at least 100k miles). The noise continued for a week, so I finally removed the rear tires and found the inside brake pads completely wore-out (the outside pads were fine). I asked my local Honda dealer if this was an issue with other cars and I was simply told no that it was normal. I probably wouldn't be all that upset except you cant get the pads anywhere but from Honda. I intend to exercise my right as an american and not buy another Honda. I guess quality is no longer a concern of Honda.

Brand new 2008 accord had a rear brake problem at 20000 miles. When dealer told me I have to change the pads, etc. I did not believe him, so a month later I had a second opinion at a car repair shop. Surely my rear brakes were gone and replaced them for about $240. I cant believe the brakes wear so fast. Dealer told me it was my driving habit, bullshit.

I owned 10 new cars never had this problem, very disappointing with Honda and if they don't fix this problem I'll never buy honda again.

Almost all of the 24K miles, about 90% I'd guess, are highway miles. The car is just over a year old, and the rear brake pads need to be replaced? That's the rear brake pads, the ones that don't carry as much of the braking load, not the front brake pads.

My wife drives the car, and does not ride the brake. Nor is she in any way hard on the brakes. She's had several cars. This is the first that needed brake pads so soon.

This is way too soon to need brake pads. Overall my wife is happy with her 2008 Accord, and I am happy with my 2006 Pilot. But in my eyes, this is a black mark on Honda, and I'm very disappointed. Brakes shouldn't wear out in 1 year.
