Accord EXL 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,500 miles

Push start, 50% of the time does not start. Starter light comes on. Changed oil 2 days ago. They told me my battery was fine. Just called the dealer where bought the car, they will not cover the starter, even though the last time I went to them, they knew the car model had a starter issue, but I did not have the problem then. Will not be fixing it thru the dealer.

Update from May 8, 2017: replaced the starter, $616, part was +-$450, bought a brand new Honda part, hoping will not happen again and the new part is better than the original. Car is no longer under warranty due to mileage

Accord EX 4

I had to replace a battery at 36,000 and now my starter is going out. I'm also having a buzzing noise in the driver door. The dealership told me the car wasn't under warranty anymore. I just don't understand how a Honda with 48,000 can have so many repairs needed. I drove a 1997 Toyota Avalon to 405,000 and I only had normal wear and tear on the car.

I have a Push start button. If we have cold Ohio weather I have to make sure I start the car daily or it will barely turn over if I wait 2 days. I've had a complete no start on one occasion for no known reason that required a jump start. Many times I worry that it will not turn over as it seems its having a hard time starting up.

Accord Tourning 2.4L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 48,467 miles

Have a PUSH TO START. First I notice this problem 2 months ago. I was in the gas station, after filling up my car. I try to start it. All my lights on the dashboard came on... But car wouldn't start. It is a PUSH TO START. So I kept pushing the start button... Nothing! Then I turn off the car and try it again. The Car STARTED! After that... everything went fine... but after 2 weeks, it does it again.

I notice, when this happen, I can just PUSH and HOLD the START button and the car will start. This problems come and goes... but it's getting more often. Used to only happen in weeks, then it started to happen every couple of days.

After Google around I noticed a lot of STARTER problems with the car. I decided to bring my car into the Dealer, right away, they knew what the problems was. The guy in the Dealer said he did a few of these... SO IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM!

Worse, my warranty ended in July 25. They only cover 3 years or 60,000KM. I am one month over and 18,000KM over! I called Honda Canada, they say they will get back to me... But heard nothing yet!

The bill came to $420.88 for the Part and $223.69 for labour plus Taxes. That is $728.36 after TAX in Canadian Dollars!

I never heard STARTER can fail in 3 years! Amazing! And it is a HONDA!

My 2013 Honda Accord V6 had recurring issues starting. I took it to the dealship on several occasions to be told they could find nothing wrong. I told them it was the started, worked when they tried it, no problems. I video taped the issue over a period of 6 weeks, took them the video so they agreed there was a started problem and replaced. extended warranty covered all but $80.

Accord EX 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,000 miles

I have a 2013 Honda Accord EX 2.4 L: I am at 105,000 miles and recently, I started having issues with starting my car. This is an intermittent problem. Sometimes it takes couple of button presses to start and sometimes it takes more than 5. It's very annoying and it sucks because the car is not that old for it to have starter issues. I wish Honda would do a recall since there are so many complaints online. The cost to fix this issue is approximately 700-900$.

Update from Mar 31, 2017: Two days ago, my car wouldn't start and I had a mechanic come and he diagnosed it as a starter failure. The starter was replaced and it cost me 504$ (parts plus labor).

Accord EX-L 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

Purchased 2013 Honda Accord EX-L 4 2.4L 4 Cylinder in August 2016 with 35,000 miles on it. In great shape. Once I hit about 40,000 miles, it began failing to start. Same as many other complaints on this site. Press start button, just clicks and lights come on. Starter motor does not engage. Sometimes it works 1st try. Other times it may take 10+ tries to get it to start. Very disappointing. I ran last Honda for almost 300K miles. This one seems nice but defective starter after only 40K. Honda won't fix it. Says out of warranty. I think they should fix this for free. It is clearly a defective part.

I bought a HONDA because they're awesome and I didn't ever want to worry about having to do anything to it... My wife's old Accord didn't need a thing until 100,000 miles, and even then it was only the factory brakes!!! So I'm absolutely baffled that my starter is going. Baffled.

Accord LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

I purchased a Honda for the sole reason of it being a "reliable" car. My experience has been anything but! A few months after buying the car the battery started going out. After multiple trips to the dealership (and being left stranded without use of my brand new car dozens of times) I was told it was my fault for having my lights on auto. Why have that option on the car if the battery can't handle it? Now my starter went out. Really Honda? How is it that I am having to buy a whole new starter while still making payments on the damn car?

This has been the worst car experience I have ever had. I honestly could rely more on my POS car I paid $500 for out of high school. I am going back to Toyota on my next car purchase and am kicking myself I ever bought a Honda. It's really sad that they dont take accountability instead of blaming us, the people who keep them in business. Not anymore...

Hello, I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Honda Accord EXL-Nav.

Then over time I get in the car, press the brake and push the start button there is a "CLICK" with that orange flash on the windshield. I would start the process over then the car would start. I find this absolutely unacceptable! This is why I purchased a HONDA to not have to worry about reliability issues.

Having the same issue as everyone else. Starter grinds and car does not start. Have to try several times to get it to start.

Accord 2.4L

My 2013 Honda Accord, which I have had for 8 months started with a intermittent starting problem. It started in December of 2016, in terms of not starting at all. Once was able to start the issue occurred again in January of 2017, and again in February of 2017. Once the car starts, it may start fine for 2 weeks to a month, but the issue keeps occurring. I contacted Honda Customer Service at the advice of my Honda Dealer, and they refused to work with me on the issue. Cost has not been verified with the issue, and all my electrical checks out on coding. However, my issue still exists. My car is currently sitting at the dealer, and continues to start, so it will not code, and they will not replace!

Accord EX-L NAV 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 42,000 miles

Hello, I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Honda Accord EXL-Nav on 3/27/2015 from Pohanka Honda of Fredricksburg. The car had 29,075 miles on it when I purchased it and zero starting issues for about the next year and a half.

Then over time I get in the car press the brake and push the start button there is a "CLICK" with that orange flash on the windshield. I would start the process over then the car would start. Now at 43,600 miles on the car it takes anywhere from 2-8 tries before the car cranks up. I find this absolutely unacceptable! This is why I purchased a HONDA to not have to worry about reliability issues.

I have had 4 Honda products in the past...1997 Honda Accord Special Edition, 2001 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe, 2002 Acura TL Type S and this current Accord and never had a problem like this. (Granted the V6 Accord and TL'S had transmission issues that Honda recalled and fixed at no charge.) That's what I am hoping to be the outcome of this concern is a recall to fix all cars affected by this issue.

Accord 4 cyl

Honda company is a rip-off. My mechanic called and they said the starter is no longer under warranty. He called 2 places and they both said that the starters for the 2013 rarely work and for him to get it from Honda directly.

Honda sells the starter for twice what the other parts companies sell it--so they know the product is defective and do not recall it. I saw the other complaints. Does someone have to die before they recall it?

Started having problem with car about 4 months prior before taking to shop. Would go to start car and it would just click and not turn. I would turn ignition off and try again, and it would start on the 3rd try. I thought it was my error. as weeks go it started happening frequently. Then went to start it and it did the same, but this time, lasted longer. One day it wouldn't turn at all, thought it was my battery. Would jump it and then it would start. well eventually I replaced the battery, due to being put down at random places. Started fine for about a month with occasional several start attempts. Took it to the Honda place and they checked it out and it did the same with them. They said the starter, ignition is going bad. That it will soon not turn. It would cost about $600 to replace. He said to check to see if there was a recall for the problem, because it's too new of a vehicle to be doing this.

I am very disappointed, after finding this website and reading all of the same complaints and no resolution from Honda. I checked the website for any recalls and nothing came up. I too highly recommended Honda vehicles due to they're suppose to be the best. Now, not sure because they should acknowledge and fix their problems with the 2013 Honda ignition/starter. I was informed in one of the threads to call Honda and complain, as well as write the US consumer and report it, this may help us get the attention from Honda and they reimburse and/or pay to replace starter. A recall is needed.

Accord 2.4L

The car wouldn't start because the starter had failed. The warranty had expired 11 months before, so I had to pay for a new starter--$762. My car was not even 4 years old and had less than 29K miles. I called Honda and they said they couldn't reimburse me since the warranty had expired. I told them that I've owned a lot of cars over the years and never had a starter fail. They basically said they weren't responsible. After I argued with them, they said there is nothing they could do for me and asked me what did I expect from them. I told them that I expect Honda to build reliable cars.

I see from this website that there are a number of people with this same problem. There probably are many more who haven't reported this problem on this website. I encourage all of you to call Honda and complain to them (800) 999-1099 and also write to them Honda Customer Service, Mail Stop 500-2N-7A; 1919 Torrance Blvd.;Torrance, CA 90501-2746.

Also, complain to the US Consumer Affairs and websites such as Edmunds.

If enough of us complain, maybe Honda will be forced to take responsibility that they built cars with faulty starters and reinburse us.

I hope that the people who maintain this website and the lawyers who monitor our complaints, will consider a class action suit on our behalf against Honda.
