Had to add two quarts of 0-20w synthetic oil twice in three weeks. At $10+ a quart, cannot keep this up. No leaks that I can see, no oil stains in driveway. Not sure why or where it goes. Any suggestions or support appreciated.

My previous 2 Honda Accords were driven well over the 200,000 mileage mark, never added a drop of oil. My new 2014 is consuming approx 1qt every 1,000 miles (dealership consumption test ...they say under 1qt per 1,000 miles is within specs...did they round down to say its in specs??). The Oil indicator light has never lit up, yet on multiple occasions the engine had no oil...only a tiny dot of oil at the bottom of the dipstick.
Honda service told me to try a thicker oil, maybe it wouldn't burn as much (but said it would still most likely burn oil). I said I was using the recommended oil and asked what kind he recommended...he just said a thicker oil. I bring my car to the dealer for oil changes every 8-10k miles (oil life around 15%), yet they never mentioned it was low on oil when they serviced it.
In searching to see if others had this same issue, I was surprised to see this is a BIG issue and has been around a while. I just watched to video to change the PCV valve and am thinking about trying it, why not right? But also reading some of the comments about burning oil talks about bad seals that need to be replaced.

So I always disregarded the oil light turning on for being careless. But for past few months I've noticed engine sounds really loud. Decided to check dipstick and research if anyone else had this problem. I guess it's common with model to excessively consume too much oil. After buying 3 QT of 0-20W Synthetic oil, engine noise was completely gone. Took it to my personal mechanic and explained to him the situation. He said he finds it strange for gaskets or even pistons to be damaged due to low mileage on vehicle (84K). However, I'm concerned due to the fact that if I don't constantly check the oil, car will be blow. That's the last thing I need. If anyone has found a solution in regards to this trending issue, feel free to contact me!

I drove on the freeway and suddenly car lost power. I sent my car to mechanic and he said my engine oil only has 2 qts left and no leaking sign. I checked website, there are a lot of excessive engine oil consumption problems for Accord. Honda should recall this problem if it is defect.

The red engine oil light came up every 3,000 miles or so after oil change. Have brought in to local repair shop, no leak is noticed, and concluded the car to burn too much oil. I read about this problem for the older model, and I hope Honda recognizes and continues to do a corrective action toward the newer model as well.

I've had many Hondas and none of them consumed oil. This car uses quarts between oil changes.

I usually don't spend time writing stuff but I think this one need to be shout out. I owned a 2014 accord ex 2.4L cvt,. I decided to check the fluid levels in my car today and was surprised to see that engine oil level was below the minimum level, the engine oil percentage indicator was at 60%. I decided to check the fluid as I noticed sluggishness while driving at cold start, also the car engine made unusual loud noise during first cold start in winter which gets better when it warms up. I got only 36500miles so far and its already eating oil. So far I put up 5000mile since my last oil change. I was going to wait for oil change for a week but I guess its time to change the oil. This is not good as Honda is going to lose its customer.
If you are reading this post, stick with Toyota. My 2005 Highlander has 140K miles and never had any issue.

I bought this car used from a dealer one month ago. At that time the oil life indicated showed 70%. Two weeks later it was at 60%....another two weeks and it's at 50%. I had a 2014 Honda Civic which never had an oil burning problem. I'm not happy that I'm going to be outside all winter checking my oil!

Worrisome, excessive oil consumption after 3,000 miles after oil change. Needed a quart and half. This is not normal. Expect honda will fix the problem. This should be a recall.

Hi,
I bought a Honda accord sport on 2014. however, after two years, I suddenly noticed an issue, engine oil lost significantly. The engine oil light lit up when the indicator showed 60% of oil life. the first time the engine lost almost all of the oil and made a big noise. I have been told by service guy in Honda Herb Chember westborough, that there is another Honda owner has the same problem.
I have learned that there is a settlement of this kind of issue from honda. it looks like to me that Honda has not solved the engine issue.
best,
Tong

I've been a Mercedes-Benz mechanic for almost 20 years. I was appalled to find my 2014 Honda Accord Sport, 2 quarts low with 40% oil life remaining. I was blown away. Actually, I'm pissed. This is my 1st Accord and my 2nd Honda. I also have a 2011 Civic EX 4Dr 1.8l. I have not seen any oil leaking to the ground. There is some seepage at the engine/transmission seam. It is very minor. I plan on contacting the dealer soon.

I did not realize the car burned excessive amounts of oil until the following happened: 1) When accelerating through turns a noise occurred at the sharpest point in the turn. The noise sounded like the vibration of a metal shroud. 2) When I hit the brake hard, the check engine light went on and the engine wanted to stall, but it did not. After 5 to 10 seconds or so the "check engine oil light" and "engine vibration" disappeared. I did not think this was an oil issue, because the oil change indicator was set to 60%, I usually change the oil when the indicator reads 15-20%. I stopped at a gas station and check the oil, to my amazement there was no oil on the dip stick. I also had the mechanic look at the dipstick and he agreed, no oil on the dipstick.
This issue angers me for the following reasons: 1) My car only has 37000 miles, I have never owned any car that burns this much oil. 1) I go to the Honda dealer to have my oil changed and they never indicated that these cars can burn oil and have never told me that my car burns oil. 2) I was told that my car can burn up to 1QT per 1000 miles. If that's the case, the manual should indicate that. The manual indicates that i should check the oil on every gas fill up. 3) I have no idea how long i was driving my car with the oil below the dipstick level. This angers me for i was putting more wear and tear on the engine. 4) this takes away from the resale value of the car. 5) I now have to purchase 2 quarts of oil for each oil change. 6) If the car burns this much oil, Honda should turn on the warning light every 1000 miles.
I am in the process of having the dealer measure the consumption,

Didn't notice until we were on vacation in Florida that the oil was low. No check engine light or other indication of low oil. It was at 10% oil life, and we were far from home, so I checked it and it was below the low mark, so I was very concerned. I added a quart of 0W20 synthetic (which I always use) and we were back in the good zone, though not at the top of the full mark. I've read that there is a problem with the engine oil seal between the transmission and engine, but Honda has not contacted me for any recall.

Just over 36,000 miles my 2014 Honda Accord Ex began to consume an excessive amount of engine oil. The first indication of the problem was a briefly flickering oil light when I slammed on the brakes. I assessed the dipstick and replaced 2 quarts of oil at a cost of nearly $7.00 a quart. I drove another 1500 miles and had to replace two more quarts. I contacted the dealership and was told to bring in car to have the oil changed and have an oil consumption test. I plan on doing this. Told the excessive oil consumption may or.may not be covered under the power train warranty.

2014 honda accord sport-uses excessive oil .....dealer keeps telling me it normal.....but i know it is not.

My 2014 Accord Sport is burning oil at a rate of .7 qt every 1,000 miles. I noticed the oil consumption at around 25,000 miles when I was driving on the highway and the low oil light came On. I have brought my car to two different dealers to perform the oil consumption test. Both times I was told this is normal and that all cars burn oil. The last dealer told me that my car burnt just over half a quart for the first 1,000 miles and the technician said it was normal.
I love my Honda but I don't know what to do about this issue which I think will get worst over time.

I expected more from a Honda. My 2014 Accord is burning oil at a rate of 1qt every 3-4k miles. I own an '04 Acura TL with 245k miles and burns no oil. I love my Accord but considering dumping it because of this issue. This really blows.

I have searched high and low for a Canadian site/forum/place to rant and complain about this but I cannot find anything! Hence I'm here. Unfortunately, I haven't read any complaints (excessive oil consumption) on the 2014 Accord yet, so hopefully this is the beginning and others will chime in if they are still oblivious to the problems that are happening but not knowing yet. I bought this car brand spanking new so it will be 3 years this coming March 2017. It's a new car, I trust the nifty oil percentage so I go in when it's at 10% or so. I drive a lot. To date, I'm about 112,000KM. So I do go in for oil changes quite often (whenever the service light comes on!). On November 25th, I checked my engine oil level for sh*ts and giggles (I never do this but I said what the heck) and I saw that the level was BENEATH the low indicator mark. At this point I'm at about 15% according to the car's computer. I freaked out, topped it up with synthetic and it made it up to the high mark indicator. Fast forward to today (December 7th), less than 2 weeks since I topped it, I checked the dipstick again and it is at the low mark indicator once again. For these 2 weeks, I did NOT go for long drives, I'd say 700KM max! And it had guzzled up my brand new synthetic oil to low in less than two weeks. This is totally unacceptable and absurd if I have to constantly check oil level, top up and go for more than normal amounts of servicing. I did bring it in for an oil change and service today. Tech told me to go back after 1000KM to check for this oil consumption test and see. What I'm afraid of is the fact that I'm already past the warranty period as I'm over the 100k KM in less than 5 years. I've read that they have extended warranties for the 2008-2012's but how about us??? Hopefully we get enough complaints so that Honda will see it's an issue for the newer cars as well. I guess I drive a lot more to have this problem arise sooner rather than later.

Car is still not fixed yet but its at the dealer its burning more than the allowable burn rate on the vehicle. The allowable burn rate that I have been told its 1 qt per a 1,000 miles which sounds too high but my car is burning 1.52 qt per 1,000 miles.

Had oil consumption test at Honda dealer I bought car from. Documented car losing ¼ quart every 1000 miles or 2 quarts between 8000 mile oil changes. Honda does NOT find this excessive and states a quart per 1000 miles is acceptable, which is total BS. I will never recommend or buy a Honda product in the future!
