I was driving down the road on a HOT 90 degree day and I heard a loud noise and then my A/C started blowing hot air. I figured I would get it looked at and maybe it needed some freon or some easy fix. The next morning I woke up and my tire was flat in my driveway. I changed the tire and went to work. Later that day I took the tire to be repaired and they pulled out a shard of metal, but were able to patch my new tire. I then stopped into my Honda dealership where I have all of the work done on my car. They explained that my compressor blew, and sprayed shards of metal all over. I pulled out the piece of metal and sure enough, it was part of my air conditioning!!! They want $2100 to fix it and I just cannot fathom what would have happened if I had my daughter in the car and the shards of metal had flattened my tires on the expressway, or worse, caused me to have an accident!
I have literally never bought anything but a Honda, AND in the past I go with family members and we purchase 3 Honda's at a time. And I have always sung the praises of my Hondas, but now that I think about it, every single one of my Honda's had the A/C go out!! This really needs to be addressed by Honda!!! Honda has lost my business, my parent's business, and my aunt's business!!!!!

I contacted Honda America customer complaint 800 number and told them I had taken car to the dealer after I heard a sound under the hood and the air was no longer cool. They told me I needed $1,500 of compressor repairs because the end blew off the compressor. Honda America told me that since my car had over 36,000 miles they couldn't help me and to call Eskridge Honda (OKC) service manager and ask if they would do anything for me. When I called them and reminded them that I have all my service completed by them on schedule I thought they should give me a break with this obvious defect. I had checked with 2 non-Honda repair shops and they told me this was a common problem. Then today I found this website. Dealer said they would have to check with their District Service Manager to see if they would help me or not. I told Honda America that if I have to pay to have this defective compressor fixed it will be the last time I ever purchase a Honda product.

This was the first of several major things that have happened. Throttle body cracked leading to unintentional acceleration, catalytic converter needed replaced, car has refused to start on at least two occasions after mysteriously dying on the road, driver's door lock actuator needed replaced. A Honda is not on my next shopping list.

Similar issue as others have had. Dealer was gonna charge $3000 for complete A/C system replacement. Found a different mechanic that repaired it for $1500, though it doesn't work quite as well as before. Also makes a whining sound regularly.

If I didn't research that thousands of honda crv owners were complaining that the air conditioner blew up in their cars, honda was going to make me pay the $3000 to fix it. They fixed it and charged me $300, it still doesnt work the same way as it did before. I swear they used old parts.

We were horrified to learn that the compressor blowing up (literally) was a fairly common problem with the CR-V and that Honda has not faced-up to recalling or offering a discounted price for repairing this disaster. We have been told that the bill could run as high as $3700 to repair. Heck for that much money I could have had my engine replaced in my Bonneville and had change left over. We are not happy with Honda.

One day my air conditioning system was working well. Next day, blowing out hot air. So, I took my car to the dealership only to learn that the air compressor was completely messed up and had sent little pieces of metal through the entire system- ruining the entire AC system. They quoted me at least $3200 to get it fixed.
At the advisement of my service representative, I called American Honda. He had confidence they would help because Honda stands by their product. I came home to look on the internet to find hundreds and hundreds of complaints about defective air compressors in 02 and 03 Honda CRVs. Most of these people stated that Honda did offer them financial assistance. Typically, Honda paid for the parts while the customer paid for the labor. Apparently, I am not so lucky. I just received a phone call from American Honda stating that they are sorry, but because the car has over 36,000 miles on it, they will not offer financial assistance. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??
Honda knows this part is defective and they are not taking responsibility. My entire family owns Hondas, right down to the lawnmower!!! But, after this response, I will never buy another Honda again. It is wrong for a company to know they have a defective part and to not take responsibility!!

This is the 2nd time the compressor has gone out in the 6 years since I purchased new in Feb '03. First time was in 2005 with 32,000 miles - replaced under warranty. Less than 4 years later the replaced compressor implodes and sends metal parts throughout AC system. Honda recommends total replacement at $3600. 5 quotes from AC repair shops average $2000. Honda won't offer "goodwill warranty" due to mileage and too far beyond 3 year warranty. This is despite their replacing the first compressor with an obviously faulty second compressor that lasted only 60K miles. I've also replaced the Oxygen sensor at a cost of $500 and tires twice already. I will never buy another Honda and will be filing my information to join the potential class action lawsuit. BTW - they admitted they can pick and choose who they offer "goodwill" to based on whether you own other Hondas or get your vehicle serviced at the dealership. This is totally wrong!!!

Honda says we were out of warranty but they would cover 50% of the repair.
$1400 not real happy, I have had a lot of problems, don't think I would by Honda again.
bad noisy tires, brakes @ 17,000 rotors warped, 3 door lock actuators bad, o2 sensor twice, air bag light every 4 months, dash gauges go dead pops fuses once a year, power acc. socket blows fuses every few months, transmission not shifting, headlight lens cloudy after 2 years Honda says they just needed to be waxed & buffed (normal maintenance)

28,000 miles and whole system has to be replaced, compressor blew up sending metal into every other part in the system.

2nd time system blew up, 1st time 20 months ago under warranty at 28,000 , now 47,000 the compressor blew up again taking the whole system out. The cars been at dealer for 5 days now while I pay $50 a day on a rental car, waiting to see if Honda will cover repair since it is the second time for the same failure so close in time and mileage. If not the dealer quoted me $3,100 to replace system.

Sorry Honda, too many problems and I don't think I'll be back. Besides the A/C compressor blowing up, blower fan going bad, window switch failing, several recalls, poor highway travel after 60,000 miles and eating tires due to the poor assembly it was a pretty good vehicle.

We were driving down to South Florida and our air conditioning unit disintegrated. Thankfully, we had bought the the extended warranty because they told us it would have cost $2,800.00 otherwise. Apparently this is a problem with this particular model.
We were shocked-we bought a Honda for its reliability-but it has not been that reliable car.
